i think its about due time we took the gloves off, and really started going into bat for our dear cities....

its the age old debate - melbourne vs sydney.

which one is better?

which one has the nicer local?

which one has the better party life?

which one has better culture?

who gets the best drugs?

who has the best bars?

who is actually the worlds most liveable city??

having lived in both, i vote melbourne!!

such a nicer, cleaner, happier place....

and brisvegians? you can enter this debate when you finally work out that:

a) mullets are not cool.
b) flanalette is not cool.
c) heeeyaagooooiiin? is not an appropriate greeting.

havent really been able to party or participate in melbourne activities, besides Falls festival a few years back, so i cant really judge

But im very much proud of my city, and anyone that bags it will um...

i dont know, but something bad may happen!

first person to bag sydney gets an all expenses paid trip to bankstown?? oh wait, that's sydney...

;)

and where does canberra rate in there? considering you're a native muz

^^^ perfect example of sydney intelligence.

tally board:

melbourne 3, sydney 0.

It's like asking which testicle do you like more, the left or right. 8(

how come as soon as someone mentions "sydney" a reference to balls almost always invariably pops up?

at first i was going to jump in and defend my hometown, but the best point i could come up with was it's proximity to steve irwin's australia zoo. and that only reinforces points a through c :(

Nicest Australian City

Melbourne,Sydney or Brisbane - which one is gonna eat me alive

Most liveable city

Anyway, having never lived in melbourne, I find it hard to make a comparison. The few times I've been there, I haven't been that excited. But seeing as I was on my own and really had no idea where I should be going, I'm willing to reserve judgement until someone from melbourne shows me around the place ;)

As for Sydney, I've loved this city ever since I first saw the harbour as a little girl. Whenever I go away, flying back over the city always makes me smile.

That said, I'd love to live in Darwin for awhile!

hey, at least the all expenses trip of bankstown goes via my house, i can stand outside with my tea towel on my head and wave!

Having never been to Melbourne I'm going to have to nominate Melbourne just from what I have heard from word of mouth. There's about 3 or so things that I like about Sydney and that's just not enough for me to ever want to live there nor spend much time longer there than the 3 or 4 days I usually do over New Years. These things are:

A) The Harbour

B) Utopia (The punk/metal import music store, not the feral rave)

C) Botanic Gardens

Do not take the name of Irwin in vain!

Awmagawdcrikey!

I live in Sydney and I havent lived in melbourne, but from a tourists viewpoint:

The suburbs are nicer but going out is more annoying. everything EVERYTHING in melbourne is decentralised.
In sydney you want out you go into town, the cross, oxford is all within walking distance. In melbourne you need a committee meeting to plan the exact timetable of the evening so you can get from one side of the city to ballarat, across to dandenong and back in time for the good DJ.
Sydney has better bars and cafes too. i like aesthetics more than anything. And nothing beats the harbour.
Melbourne has its cool kinda of trendy thing going on.... Sydney just quietly gets along with being sexier.

Gimme 6 months and Ill post my reply... your timing for this thread wasn't very good at all Mr Muz. I hope sydney wins.. or you'll just be pushing me closer and closer a big fat world of depression :p =D

Well I moved to Sydney this year and I can't wait to move to Melbourne!! :)

Melbourne 4, Sydney 0.

Although Sydney is cool - I've just heard too many good things about Melbourne.

Anyone living in Melbourne wouldn't actually VISIT dandenong or ballarat (Except for Advent*jah... last one this year (lol)) to sace themselves. Melbourne is better because it's public transport system is better... And getting on a Melbourne train means the doors wont shut on your bag and leave you hanging outside the train for 40km...

Melbourne is the scene for artists in Australia.

The problem with Sydney is that they think they're good, but are not. Merely jealous of their better more southern counterparts.

Nods.

I have lived a fair time in each and in terms of everything... Melbourne does it better. I was having a chat with a friend the other day and she thinks its because Melbourne isnt as populated and hasnt had the need to be commercialised like Sydney has had the need to do so. But how do you explain the lack of colour, creativity, culture and vibrance that only Melbourne seems to be able to emulate? When I came to Sydney, I was seriously expecting a bigger and better version of Melbourne. i have never been so let down in my life. Having said all of that, I wouldn't dare move, I have people here who I love dearly and while some aspects of Sydney can be frustrating, like the superficiality to EVERYTHING, if you look really hard, there are some people who arent from Sydney, who have actually started to care about the culture and nightlife and make it somewhat livable.

Melbournes party scene SHITS all over Sydneys, a 100 fold in every aspect. Any night, any time, any genre of music you could imagine/ create in your head, in Melbourne its playing. Melbourne doesnt resume to a 9-5 life style that Sydney has become an absolute whore to. That I think is because of its macro demographics, being Australia's 'international' city, and most international corporations set up here, meaning more, much much more people living a 9 - 5 lifestyle, and consequently, I think a lot more people thinking that they have to reform to way of life because its so predominant. I mean even an hour out from the city in Melbourne, they still have 24 hour supermarkets 7 days a week! I cant even find one inner city any night ! All these plus more are the small things I find really hard to get use to, and think its because Sydney is so much bigger, I had equal expectations.

I know there is more to add but cant think at this point in time.

BREAKaBEAT
