Melbourne - *REVIEW THREAD* Two Tribes 2004 - Mar 7 - Melb Park

I had been pretty excited about this event and not totally sure if i was let down or not. I enjoyed the night but really only have myself to blame for not having the best time in the world. I spent way to much time outside walking around trying to meet up with different groups of friends and doing all sorts of shit. It was almost as if I spent more time outside than i did inside!!!
BT had to be the highlight of my night!!! His set was awesome. I'm pretty sure it was BT's set that got fucked up because his laptop shut down, how funny was that!!! Unfortunatley I only managed to catch last 20 mins or so of Green Velvet's set. I was really really hoping to get to hear La La Land but didn't because aparantly it was played at start of set. Did they play a remix of it or the orignial? I would kill to have heard them play it. Does anyone know where I can find it? PM me or post a reply, would be greatly appreciated.
I was very disapointed in Picotto. I found the set quite boring and uneventful.
All in all I had an good night out with my friends and heard some good and bad music. I Thought the vibe was pretty good, not too many rude pricks.

mahahah i just remembered that Peakhour was filming there and i was jumping around in the back ..oh i hope im not on TV

lol, i will watch peakhour and see if your on there.

Fucking top night, had a wicked time, i went to the wheel at 11 but i didn't know who to look for. Met up with lahlahgatecrasher and another bl'r (sorry don't remember your name) a bit after that.

Spent the start of the night at garden, moved to hardware around 9 and pretty much stayed there.

Was pretty pissed i missed dee dee v slack as i was looking forward to the vs's. Everything i saw in hardware was awesome, each set has its own highlight, and VITALIC what a fucking awsome mix.

Was going non-stop insane dancing for his live mix. That man is a god, the music, sound, lighting, and crowd everything was perfect. Fucking best live mix ever :D

Hardware was def. the place to be, had a look at every room for a little bit, went on the ferris wheel and bought a camera.

Came back to Hardware and rocked till around 6 to check out picotto. Got to GK and left straight away, what a joke. The sound was aweful, and it was too full of shirtless sik cunts.

Came back to Hardware and kept going till my mate had to make a visit to st. vincent's hospital :(

He is fine but it scared the shit outta me.

So apart from my mates misshap a fucking awesome night
:D can't wait for next years (If there is one.)

Oh and btw beech, green velvet played la la land and actually did the lyrcis himself :) was very nice

Ah two tribes, I look forward to it every year and each year I leave feeling dissapointed. Let's face it, a lot of people go to 2 tribes because it's two tribes, myself included...

My only two highlights of the night were:

1. Finally getting to meet a lot of you.

2. Watching my friend get interviewed by some suit from channel 9 about drugs, mainly GHB.

fuck... i knew that camera looked a little too "TV station like" to have just been a promotion camera....

nah i wasnt wearing black and white.

but go check out the pics thread in aus social cos i am about to post a pic of my outfit.

hmmm not really sure how i felt about this party yet. The night started off very good, but seemed to get progressively worse as the night went on (for me anyway).

Crowd - It might be just me but it really seemed like there were alot of people getting out of control. It seemed that alot of people were not really there to enjoy the music and international Djs on show, but to instead use the event as an excuse to get tottaly off guts. I am not one to judge, but i just thought that there were alot of people that couldnt control themselves, especially the Asshole that threw up all over my poor little g/f :p

Djs - I stayed in the Harware room all night, and id have to say that the international lineup was one to boast about. However, there is no doubt in my mind that Ben Cormack (Local) absolutely destroyed them all with his 3 deck set. Why he is not playing internationally is a mystery, becasue his mixing was absolutely flawless. Me and Mr_AuDiO were in amazment on how well he controled his set. I enjoyed Samuell L, and Green Velvets La La Land, but i think i expected a bit more from Renato Cohen. Was it just me, or did the sound seem very low when he was playing? Vitalic was probably the best out of the 4 IMO as his live set was very clean and enjoyable.

Best T-Shirt = tnargus for sure with his "Future Sucks Cock" shirt. Absolutely cacked myself when Mr_AuDiO pulled me aside to look at it.

Not really sure if il attend TT 05... only if there is a major international Techno Dj that i cant miss out on.

well i thought the night was pretty good sorry for not attending the meet up i was suck in god's kitchen which was way to packed. i enjoyed the music in future BT Great prob the pick of my night and as for the next 2tribes i'll have to wait and see

All i have to say is thats Security was an absolute fucking joke..... they did nothing when my mate got knocked down near the ferris wheel then dragged out the front gate and bashed by 5 fuckwits when i was yelling for help and shit.
they searched maybe 1 in 10 people for weapons etc. on the way in and passouts were a disgrace.... IMO thats y there were so many OD's, so many people able to bring in a shit load of G and not have to go out to the car fo a charge and have that time in between for it to wear off......

I had an OK night but all in all am sickened by security that was hired for the event, they were shit.

To many sick reh wogs everywhere.... just fucken hit the gym boys not the raves...
DfI:(

well on an aside first off if u go to hardwares website i think they have a med log of what actually happened and i think only like 5 ppl actually went to hospital for ghb od and the others were for epileptic fits/dislocated shoulder etc.....

anyway i wasnt all that excited for this event as i attended last year and almost got bashed for no reason by some muzza cokie....but anyway i can say that i had a pretty good night. it was not one of the top but i really enjoyed myself...

got there about 11, (and btw did not get searched AT ALL by security even though i had a bag AND offered it to be searched) and met up with all the fabulous people that bothered to come to the meetup...hi to all that i met and special Thanks to butros for the kandy :) and tnargus - shes not in shit, shes a chick!!!! anyway....headed to rod laver after that to see what all this fuss over hybrid was about, turns out i shouldnt have been worried because imo he was boring and pretty crap, with a weird psy vibe mixed with a dnb backbeat....i dunno i only sat in the seats and i wasnt getting much of a vibe from the crowd on the floor either...

anyway its a bit of blur the whole night went by so quickly but i caught some of BT's set, which i wasnt that excited about and i must say he was awesome! i though he really played for the crowd and everyone was just going nuts! i think it was him who played the rock song *fuck i cant remember what its called* but its a really popular rock song and he turned it into this awesome remix, which i thought was a true mark of talent being able to get the crowd into it, even though it was a rock song (someone help me out and tell me what it was!)

anyway after that i caught green velvet, i think everyone must have been in there for la la land, cos i too was dancing my lil head off, i liked his vocals, very nice :) and then OMFG VITALIC!!!! he was so awesome, and i was so completely in awe of this man that i could barely move, just taking it all in.... but he played all the stuff i wanted him to...the unamed track *hardie knows what im talkingt bout* that just went off and his little rendition of "that was not la rock, la rock sounds something like this" and then finishing again with poney *ahhhh* def. the highlight of my night! after that i think i sort of walked around, stunned as to have just heard such an awesome set. caught some of picitto and def. wasnt that impressed at all. i thought that i would have liked him, but he definately sucked hardcore imo, i left early because he wasnt making my feet moving and found myself yawning on the dancefloor......

all in all a good night i enjoyed myself and enjoyed meeting all of you fine people.....now bring on DAVE CLARK!

yeah, it was a good night.

much better than last year (except for the lack of armin ;)), imo - the crowd was sooo much better than i expected it to be. still, many doors were locked throughout the night, and that sucked, but all in all i had a really good time.

and bt. omg, bt. the man was just as amazing as i'd hoped - that mix of "are you gonna go my way" was just amazing, and the fact that he was able to play piano/keyboard for a good ten minutes when hte power died (er, that really did happen didn't it? :)) is a credit to his talent as an actual musician. he's elevated himself to one of my favourite artists, easily....and i liked him a lot before.

there weren't too many other acts which i loved (though vitalic kicked arse, as did hybrid), but i had a really good time with good friends. sorry to anyone that i snobbed off, but i seemed to be constantly bouncing between groups of friends, whilst still trying to catch some actual music (plus having to look after a sick and stressed out friend).

sucks about the g overdoses, but people just have to be smarter. but hey, it's not exactly like future are encouraging education (with ravesafe being dissallowed), so perhaps some of the onus should come back to them (future).

still, a good night, and it was good to catch up with a few people i hadn't seen for a while and meet a few new peeps too :D

and tnargus, fucking great t-shirt, and particularly relevant =D

(and kke, that rock track was lenny kravitz's "are you gonna go my way" - my highlight of the night by a fucking mile =D).

Two Tribes was rocking!! But alot more commercialised than I thought.. but in saying that there was hardly any trouble for the mixed crowd (wonders why... :p )

But all in all.. it was so exciting seeing SO many people! I arrived at about 11pm, walked into Rod Laver and just stood there thinking.. OMFG!! Awesoma! Then I went into Vodafone and nearly passed out!! Except for some reason everytime I walked into Voda I ended up at the seats BEHIND the stage, which was McFucked, and had some topless mario's dancing some stripper dance in front of me.. but I wasn't too phased I guess. It was just waaaaaaaay too packed, they stopped letting people onto the dancefloor but everyone just kept streaming in :( I think I lost about 5kgs in water just trying to get back to where everyone else was!

Even my bf who has never been into the rave/dance scene said it was alot better than he expected, and it was crazy that I bumped into people who I hadn't seen in YEARS in those massive crowds :)

Thanks to those who went, and people who helped me climb over the seats (you rock =D )

I am now spewing even more that i missed out on Green Velvet actually singing the lyrics to la la land, i almost cried when i heard that today from a friend who did catch it.
Seems that the whole 'power failure' thing during BT's set was just a set up. Same thing happened at the Adelaide 2 Tribes at same point in the set. I thought BT was awesome but am so pissed off I missed La La Land, but then again if i saw all of Green Velvet's set instead of just the last 30 mins i would have missed some great BT stuff.

Shouldn't you have realised how commercialised it was beforehand with the endless promotions from NOVA for the past two months?

i had fun, but im not the most experienced party-goer, so cant really compare it to much
twas a good nite, im not a huge techno fan, but everyone was telling me to go see vitalic, so i obliged, lasted about 10 mins before needing to go outside and sit down lol
crowd was alright, everyone i chatted to seemed pretty happy to talk to wasted randoms
pretty cool nite

was a bit disconcerting to see the parade of stretchers tho....

regarding BT's set, did any one record it off nova???
i completely forgot they even did it! if u can help me out pls PM.

ta.

well this was my first official rave event, even though i've loved the dance music for a few years and have hit many clubs. Well i was incredibly excited beforehand, and as soon as i arrived around 10:00 had to instantly start making DJ compromises. After being locked out of God's kitchen around 11:00, me & my friend's just kicked it and danced in the tier's on the second level to Mario Piu, before i forced my friend's to Future 2004 around 12:30 for the highlight of my evening, BT. What can i say, future2004 rocked my world, so many smiling faces, it was euphoria, with the whole crowd in perfect sync. I spent BT's set in the VIP area next to the stage where i went a little crazy, i shook pretty much everyone's hand around me including the musical god himself BT after his set :D., what a treat. I was a little too dialled though 8o, as i can't clearly remember his mixing of Tricky or when his lap-top failed, but i do remeber getting quite emotional (tears & all) when dreaming & godspeed emerged. After this, thing's declined a little, heading back to the over-crowded sweaty god-kitchen where i lost my mate's and where a few beefed up topless mario's where persistently trying to pick up my best mate's pretty little girlfriend who i had to look after, which worried me a little :(. Finally, grouping back together near the ferris wheel, i chatted to at least 10 very friendly strangers, saw some mad khandy and soaked up the whole atmosphere, boy everyone was wasted! I even helped a couple of very worried little chicks who appeared about 16 to find their lost friend via a few mobile calls on my phone. To end it, i hit picotto hard, dancing up a storm with my eyes closed, very enjoyable. Overall though, i had a mad time, much better vibe than those NRG/tech clubs of Melbourne with probably 90 % of people on the same wavelength, but was irritated that i had to be the one looking out for all my friends even though this was all new to me & i was incredibly 8o. I also missed hardware and green velvet, ahh well, till next time.
