Melbourne meetup - Saturday 20th March - Bimbo Deluxe

Thanks to all the M-Town kids (& the Irish surprise visitors)..some nice surprise appearances...grandad, so sorry to hear about your bad experience afterwards dude.. :( QBar is the most overrated club in Melbourne, I've been there only a couple of times but have been wholly unimpressed with it every time. And Revolver...I like Revolver, but it can be a bit of a wank. Hopefully it won't stop you from making a return visit sometime..

Sorry also that the secret chamber cost us Butros and anyone else who might not have known about it....but a fun time was had, and it was great to meet folks. For me, while it's awesome to meet people I've been looking forward to meeting for ages, the best part is meeting other people who I don't normally interact with as much online. You are all very cool people, and one last thing....thanks for the kandy, COTB....you rock out!! =D

The club scene here is unbelievably snobbish and unwelcoming. As a visitor, it was impossible to get into clubs. Ive been all over the world and have never experienced attitudes like Ive found at the door of Melbourne nightclubs. A friend of ours got us on the "guest list" of bar Q. Supposedly a big deal. It was unremarkable- bad bouncy house music and overpriced drinks. Yet everyone we met was in awe of the fact that we were there and full of questions about it.

q-bar is fucking horrible :)

don't take our club scene as any indication of us as people, because i think we're generally pretty damn nice. regardless, it sounds like you had some shitty experiences, so your thoughts are pretty justified.

i don't like clubs anyway, so you won't find me disagreeing :)

I'm not a clubber by any stretch, but I'd dispute that Melbourne's club scene is "unbelievably snobbish and unwelcoming". I think you just got taken to, as onetwothreefour points out, fucking horrible places. Q Bar is one of those without question.

In general, in Melbourne (and I know people will disagree with me here), avoid house music. There's probably a friendly house club somewhere, but I've never been there. Likewise much of prog and (again with the probable disagreement) techno.

The breaks, hip-hop and trance (and hard trance, though that has its own set of problems lately) club scenes are a lot friendlier.

[edit: grandad, it sounds like you did the Chapel St thing. That's a bad idea right there. I end up in Revolver from time to time, it has its place, but that doesn't change the fact that Chapel St is just a shitty place for friendly clubbing. Actually, for friendly anything really.]

$0.02.

Yeah maybe Ill have to come back some day to find the friendly, non "VIP only" scenes that have to be hidden around the city. Today I leave for Indonesia and South East Asia.

You've restored my faith in Melbourne (a bit)

Good meet up with some of you!! My head is still trying to get around the pizza oven accoustics.. thought someone had managed to sneak some acid into my beer :) maybe it was those starburst jelly thingies?
I too had to leave early, dinner plans, but hope to meet some of you again soon.

Too true Raz.
Although we have been on Bluelight together for almost 2 years, I don't think we have said boo to each other before.

Great meeting you dudes.
