Hello there;
I must admit this is probably a silly question that I'll probably be able to answer in a year or two, but not quite yet, I'm only in the first semester of organic, heh. I only know very basic reactions so far. I'm also not entirely familiar with various methods of synthesis actually used to make the various 5-MeO substituted RC's.
I tried a search but didn't find anything, so I figured I'd make a thread. Sorry if it's a more common question than I've been lead to believe.
Anyway, given that melatonin is readily available and all, how possible/easy would it be to use it as a precursor for that sort of thing considering you only have to change things around with the amine? As I said, I'm really only familiar with more basic reactions with alkanes and alkenes and alcohols and alkyl halides and stuff, not too familiar with reactions involving amines and what have you.
Yeah, that's about it I guess. Thanks for any help!
