Megaupload shut down

Yeah same here, only ever at temporary markets and car boots, which always makes them seem dodgy. I was about to say that that was the last place I'd buy meat but then remembered the time I was sitting in a pub in Vauxhall and a junkie-looking bloke came in and tried to sell me some gammon he had down his tracksuit trousers. IIRC the landlord bought it.

Online piracy will never be defeated. Just as the wee guys down The Barras who've been punting hard copies of pirated stuff for decades will never be stopped.

And therein lies the crux of the matter. The powers that be can shout and scream all they like but ever since the days of tape to tape recording it's been happening.

I, for one, love torrents and prefer them to most Megaupload-type sites. They do serve a purpose though. It's like drug dealing, once a dealer gets busted another will step into their place. So long as there's money to be made.

Haha, I've been offered bacon by a junkie on more than one occasion. I think in the local supermarket the bacon probably has the highest value to size ratio besides booze & fags which are more closely watched over. Used to be razor blades quite often as well, again I assume because they are relatively small for the price.

And cheese. Don't forget cheese. I went into this supermarket with this one guy and he filled his coat with cheese. And I mean FILLED, there must've been a good 30 packets of the shit!

That's exactly what it is lol. The Barras is great. Jakey mecca. You can literally buy anything there, from MXE & aMT to BB guns to fake Air Max to Nazi memorabilia to pirate DVDs & dodgy snout. They've got the lot. There's also butchers vans where a guy stands with a mic & rambles some utter gibberish then throws some meat at one of the people standing watching, they then pay him, I've never been able to work out what is actually happening other than it's some sort of meat auction done in a special language that I was never taught.

My grandpa used to have a construction business. He said you'd get your yard done over on a Thursday, all your tools etc nicked, then go down The Barras at the weekend & buy them back haha.

All you hear at the end is " GET TAE FACK"

Right, torrents might not be so secure, but has anyone here actually had any action taken against them? My mate got a friendly warning off his ISP (Pipex), to stop downloading copyrighted material. Apparently, on the third warning, they'll just stop your service. He switched to Sky broadband and hasn't had any warnings since. I don't know anyone else that has had so much as a warning. When I download something, I just remove it, as soon as it's done - so I'm not seeding for ages. Your ISP are the ones that warn you, then you know to stop/switch. I doubt many people get a knock at the door, before this happens. I'm sure there's isolated instances, but I'd say the chances are extremely slim.

Can I ask what's so bad about torrents? For me the download speed is much, much quicker and they're easier to use than the file hosting sites with their adverts, pop ups and 'upgrade to stop the endless waiting' bullshit!

Irc file transfer is the hardest to stop, anyone with a connection can set up a server(irc). You could even use a dialup modem ala dialup bbs's like back in the old days.
Saying that not downloaded anything from the warez channels for about 9 years.

I've had 2 viruses attack my PC (even with anti-virus software), using torrents, I'd much rather use a single-click download site (not going to mention names) haven't had any problems with them

I've had an email from HADOPI the french gov't institution that deals with piracy. they have 3 steps, so by the time they could get to the third one ill be gone hehe. they send about a million emails a year in france, and no on has been taken to court in the past 2 years its been running.

The police had to cut the owner out of his safe room lol.

So much for the offical megaupload song ft Kanye West, will.i.am, Jamie Foxx, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown they probably paid so much for. Oh dear, soooo shit. I reccomend NOT watching it, your ears will hate you.

Much, much easier to get caught with torrents, when seeding etc. one of the reasons I refuse to use them.

Use private torrent sites then, the quality of files and download speeds are ALOT better too. The scene based ones have everything extremely quickly after (and before) the official release too.

Then you didn't click the download torrent file link - you clicked a sneaky malware link, by mistake. There's plenty about. Just hover over a link and check it's a .torrent file, then you're unlikely to encounter a virus. Reading the comments will normally reveal any dodgy files. These are extremely rare. I've never had any issues. Member only places are what you might need. There's enough free ones.

If it's true...

oh man :(

Defo true ^^

The game has changed, was wondering wtf was wrong yesterday when I tried to get some tv shows from warezbb. Going to get set up with a newsgroup as soon as I can be bothered to learn about it.

Warezbb has been down for me for the past 2 weeks. Reckon it's been shut down permanently?

And so they claimed SOPA would be put aside for now, right before they go and shut down basically every file sharing site there is? Clever indeed. It will to be easier to convince people it's the right move when they target these sites initially and not ones like youtube or facebook (...yet).

Warez is still fine for me, definitely hasn't been took down I am on it now. I think them sites are choosing remove all files and that before they get forced to close and arrested, just a panic to attempt to save their skin.
