Generally, forcing myself to eat a reasonable meal (whether I want to or not) and having a glass of orange juice, followed by laying down with my eyes closed and clearing my mind helps to get me feeling a little bit less out.
I am not a stimulant user (besides caffeine) and have not been for quite a while, though I do tend to suffer from insomnia which is partially related to chronic pain, and one thing that generally seems helps me with sleep under any circumstances is to avoid being on the computer/watching TV/doing anything too stimulating of that sort for 20-30 minutes before attempting to go to bed. Once I'm actually in bed, I try to avoid rolling over or moving around consciously, and to avoid thinking of anything too stressful, the idea being that the closer I can get my brain to "autopilot" mode, the closer I can get myself to sleep. I'm not sure if any of this does much good, but it generally seems to work pretty well for me.
Speaking of insomnia, please excuse me if this post is slightly incomprehensible, I really haven't been getting enough sleep lately...
