Hey there.

Just a quick question. I noticed that there is a mobile version of the site but when I
try to use it on my Blackberry its like it jumps back and forth from the mobile version
to the regular version. ... Does anyone know how I can browse and post using just
the mobile version? Its like sometimes when I click on a thread it will load
in the mobile site and other times it loads the full version and I'm having to
zoom in. Anyway, if anyone knows anything I can do about this, thatd kick some
serious you know what. Thanks!
 
I've been googling for things like: vBulletin mobile skin. A lot of other forums have problems or at least members with problems with the mobile skins that they are using. I'm not finding much info at the moment that is going to prove very helpful.

Wait! Googling blackberry with vbulletin turned out a little more fruitful.

I found an app for helping blackberrys with vBulletin (software BL is run on.). Its at http://www.berryblab.com/Default.aspx Never used it. I'd encourage you to find some reviews and see if it seems likely to help you out.

Otherwise:
Have you discerned any patterns to the problem?

Is it only certain forums that cause you to switch from mobile to regular?
Is it only certain activities?

Something I would try is to log out while in the skin and log in again. Hopefully the skin will be on and consistent. That's just a wild guess however. I've done very little with internet via phone and am using pc like attempts at non-pc's so its not that likely.

on my iPhone i browse with the regular skin and it works just fine. our own mobile skin is probably broken and/or sucks in a few different ways, but to be frank it's a low priority right now, as we're coming up to a couple of major software upgrades.

in other news, awesome username. they were one of my favourite bands back in the day! :)
 
It's probably a problem with your phone; it may not be expressing the client properly. I never have any problem using vBulletin with phones.
 
Actually, I googled bluelight mobile and
used that link rather than the link on
the full version of the website and it works
like a dream now. Only thing is I can't see
how many posts I have so far.

Some one should develop a bluelight app. And have it available on the android and apple market. maybe have the proceeds go to keeping up with the server costs.
 
agreed. get on with it, hoptis! :p

not sure if apple would allow it though. we need a generic vbulletin app or skin.
 
An app would be a great idea! Although, if
it could be made to be available for black
berry as well, that would be awesome!
I'm sure a lot of people would use either
one, be it blackberry,apple, or otherwise.
It would also be a great contribution and
would bring a significant amount of money
into the site as a whole. Now..If only we
could find someone to develop the app.

there are a couple of vbulletin (the platform bluelight uses) readers on the appstore. i tried one - vbulletin forums pro - and it didn't work at all. i contacted the authors for help and received no reply. i junked it and got a refund.

another - forum runner - requires a plug in on the server side which is, to me, just a poor decision.

Yeah, I use the mobile version on my black
berry and it works well. Sometimes the
pages don't load and there's certain info
I can't see using BL mobile on my phone but
other than that its alright. Also, I've
heard that the format of my posts have
weird spacing but they look fine on my
end.
 
I also use the mobile version. I do have some issues with it, it doesn't keep me logged in unfortunately. So every time I go on I have to log in again. Its not a huge deal except when I have to leave the browser to get something, like an image code from my photobucket app for example, once I get back into the browser I have to log back in. It gets kinda irritating sometimes tbh.
But I think an app would be cool and it's also a way bl could earn donations, like I said before. I think enough members have either iPhones, Droids or some other type of smart phone that it'd be pretty successful, regardless of how well the mobile version works.
 
the mobile version is weird. it always logs me out randomly. or ill be typing out a post and when i hit post it will reload the page and delete everything i just wrote. That is by far the most aggravating thing about the mobile version. And just today i would post something then hit new posts and it says im not logged in WTF!?
 
Odd, someone will have to look into that, I dont even know if that would be a problem with your phone or BL mobile.

Does anyone else have this problem?
 
It may be my phone. But tbh idts. It's brand new. I haven't had it long enough to fuck it up. :\
 
^If you give your phone manufacturer and model, I'll look around for info about using it with vBulletin and cookie storage. Many smart phones let you use alternative browsers so what browser you are using will help also.

I wasnt thinking of it as anything you did, it just may be the way it appears on your particular phone model or something. Again, I'm really just guessing at this thing because I've never used BL mobile so I'm just trying to think of all the possibilities. :)
