i do joints burn kinda fast though and i think theyre better for individualized use
i like blunts, bowls are fine but i do enjoy smoking joints and blunts

I think smoking a joint is probably the overall best way to consume cannabis, I can say for me personally that it is the method I enjoy the most overall. That said, I still smoke more cannabis through bongs than I do through joints, I smoke my bong every single day, and while I do roll a joint probably 80-90% of days it will make up 30-40% of my daily smoke and the rest will be via my bong. As someone who smokes a couple grams of weed per day and doesn't have a particularly high income it is hard to justify the cost of smoking joints exlusively, because at this stage that would mean spending less of my day stoned or spending more money on it, the latter of which isn't really an option for me and the former isn't too attractive of a proposition, especially while I am currently trying to reduce my daily alcohol intake.

I think the OP touched on a number of good reasons about why bongs aren't necessarily cleaner than joints, and infact, often are the opposite. I also find that when smoking a bong the water filtration just gives it a slightly weird taste, I don't hate it but it is not as nice as the taste of a spliff. I also think that despite many people claiming water filtration has a positive impact on your lungs that it is the opposite, I think overall you inhale more smoke at once more deeply and it is considerably worse for the lungs. I also think unless you are replacing the bong water every couple of uses most of the carcinogenic filtering benefit of water is negated and furthermore, there is potential for one to inhale some amount of water vapours when breathing in hot smoke that has passed through water to cool down. I know when I gave up bongs to smoke joints exclusively for around 6 months my lungs felt much better for it, and I did not once cough up the grey/black phlegm that can be a regular occurence when smoking bongs particularly heavily.

I think a lot of the issue is lazyness and lack of skills, followed up by perhaps a lack of understanding on what are the better papers to use and why. A lot of people never bother to learn the art of rolling a joint, and it does take time to master, they roll a few and smoke their shitty abominations, unsurprisingly finding these canoeing, ugly, harsh, filterless pieces of shit that are likely rolled in a thick crappy paper, to be unpleasant to smoke and rather wasteful. The problem is they don't judge how efficient a joint is based on a joint that is actually rolled well. I honestly find that I have to use probably 1.5 times the amount of bud in a joint as I would in a bong, the stone wont be quite so pronounced but it also has a slower come on where I get to appreciate the whole spectrum of effects as I slowly descend into stonedness and it also lasts about as much longer as more weed I am using (1.5 times or there abouts). I also find that smoking joints doesn't really lead to a shitty burnt out feeling when the high wears off, which bongs often do, as a result of this I can often smoke a joint and get high for an hour or two through the day without having to resort to smoking all day to not feel shit, something that usually happens if I smoke bongs in the morning or through the day. As a result of this it can technically save me weed to skin one up during the day as opposed to hitting the bong.

Joints also taste better (if you use shitty papers then maybe not, but good papers aren't that hard to come by), are more social and also just the process of skinning up is a great ritual and for me leads to enhanced enjoyment of smoking when I construct it with my own two hands. I find that smoking bongs are rather clinical and focused where smoking a joint is much more relaxed.

Sadly, in the country I live there is a really anti joint mindset amongst a majority of cannabis smokers, they would rather fashion dirty bongs out of tinfoil, plastic bottles and garden hoses than learn how to twist up a work of art. I understand this mentality completely if you are 14 years old, spending your weekly allowance on a gram and ditching school to go get high with 4 other people, but what is crazy to me is I know many working adults who earn good money that are repulsed by the idea of rolling a joint, citing it as wasteful. While I do appreciate that at times one has to conserve their stash, if the point of consuming cannabis is for personal enjoyment then I don't really see why one would sacrifice a better experience just to save weed each and every time. Sometimes the way to get the most out of something isn't to make it last as long as possible, but to enjoy it as much as possible. Most of my friends look at me like I am crazy when I am round at their house and they have a mix going and I pull out a bud and my pack of OCB's, shit some of them even refuse to take a hit off a joint I fucking rolled which I don't get at all. It really makes me sad that the art of the joint is largely unappreciated where I live and I honestly can't figure out why the mentality is so different in Europe.

Don't get me wrong, not hating on bongs and it is very much different strokes for different folks, but I do think that in recent years joints are being increasingly overlooked by cannabis smokers in favour of fancy glass gadgets and that is a fucking shame.

I don't mind the odd joint here and there, but they are just SO wasteful and I'm poor so I usually just stick to small pipe bowls. Save weed and get just as stoned, makes sense to me.

Joints are wasteful. Half the smoke blows up into the air, and you spend a lot of time coughing. When I want to be extravagant I'll take a blunt. Otherwise it's little tiny pipe or bong bowls with a dab of wax on 'em.

I don't know how you people roll your joints but I don't find it that much more wasteful than smoking a pipe. Personally I roll spliffs though, I find it much nicer than smoking a pipe/bong.

Well actually I'm more prone to cough smoking from a bong rater than a joint/spliff but maybe that's just me?
Also i don't think half of the smoke gets post, suore you lose some of the drug but thats severely less than 1/2

I don't mind a spliff but give me hits from a bong any day of the week. It is a "airier" stone though & perfect if you have shit to do.

there are 2 main reasons people smoke from a bong or a vaporizer over a joint .

1. personal preference
2. efficiency

I do a variety of stuff myself, i smoke from a small bong, i use a portable vaporizer (magic flight launch box) and a desktop vaporizer (Arizer V Tower) rarely a blunt and sometimes a joint (mostly pure, a thin line of baccy just to keep it burning good enough)

Smoking a joint for me is my favourite method, however i found it just eats up all my weed.
If i smoke joints only, i burn around 4g a week

If i vaporizer only i vape around 2g a week, and still have stuff left for cakes. Every joint i roll i know its a waste im not going to get as stoned, some of these high end vaporizers are very effecient, and not to mention probably better for your health.

One concern i have with vaporizing though, is the different temperature settings, and the different cannabinoids that are released. This means if your vaporizer is on a very low setting, it will give you a dose of THC mostly and some other, CBD is missed out i think if its too low which is the anti psychotic , component that nulls the psychoactive effects of THC, leveling your high out.

so yeah its a hard call for me what method i use.

I only would smoke them when I was first starting to smoke herb and I didn't have a one hitter, bowl, or bong. Also I would smoke them with friends if somebody else had one or if I had one and we were outside or at a party.

When i'm with people i smoke bongs, blunts and joints maybe a large bowl. When im by myself I smoke a normal sized bowl, vaporize or take an edible. It all depends, but I still love a good old fashioned doobie.

I medicate every way possible. From topicals to edibles to concentrates to flowers. I even juice fresh cannabis leaf.
That goes for methods of ingesting flowers. I use joints, high quality glass of all kinds and vaporizers. I do not use blunts these days. I don't want the tobacco leaf nor do they get me high. Horrible on the lungs as well.

I do smoke joints often, but it's easy when you have a garden. If "wasting" cannabis was a problem for me MI would not use any method to ingest flowers other than high quality glass, vaporizers and then all the other forms of mentioned cannabis. I enjoy joints for a few reasons. Mostly, portability and taste. When I am not at home joints are generally the easiest. Though, pieces of some sort are always around me. I am a glass snob. I won't use china or crappy glass. That is most likely why the OP feels harshness when using any other method. High quality glass filled to the correct level (you would be surprised how many people get this wrong) will be the easiest on the smokers chest.

Tolerance is another factor. If I didn't have the ability to grow perpetually I wouldn't use papers. I enjoy the act of smoking a joint and enjoy the taste (clean glass tastes better imo). But, I wouldn't get high ever. I generally smoke 1 gram to an eighth joint. More than a gram at once for a personal joint often just effects my lungs too much to enjoy eventually. Not the first joint obviously but, after many. I medicate alot so I try to take good care of my lungs. Multiple gram joints are more for passing around with some homies or when at a show. I often smoke multiple one gram joints in a row though. With just a 5-10 minute gap to roll them and chill. It just takes way too long to get medicated. Often my lady and I will just go into the glass case and pick a piece for the day/night. Recently, we have been using our new collab from some local blowers. It's a sweet mini, that the glass is weaved. But, our favorite daily drivers are generally our toro and FYC collab pieces. But, we like to mix it up. We love the art of glassblowing so we have lot's of glass related gear. As well as torch's and glass to make our own pieces.

But, the most important factor of the smoke being smooth is a piece by a expert blower and correct water level if applicable.

I prefer joints. I'll roll one and then smoke it bit by bit throughout the week. I never smoke a whole joint in one sitting.

Blunts are about ten times more wasteful than joints. The cherry gets much bigger and much more smoke blows into the air. I really doubt half the smoke from a joint gets into the air, maybe 1/20 at the most (which is 10x less than what you said)

A good joint is the best way to smoke. RAW papers... yeah. Can't get much better than that. I'll admit I haven't tried rizla, zigzag, or ez-wider though. Still, a kingsize RAW joint? Makes you feel like a king, and when you put it out it's as long as a regular joint.
