I have found that for the more mild withdrawals, i.e. those 1-3 day withdrawals associated with low dose usage (< 100mg/day oxy or equal) for short periods (<2 months), there is a drug combination that will take a bit of the edge off.
2400mg neurontin, 90 mg DXM, 25 mg doxylamine succinate, 25mg diphenhydramine, 10mg valium and 800mg ibuprofen twice daily with white grapefruit juice completely ameliorated the withdrawals from 8 weeks straight use of 80mg/day oxycodone.
Granted, this kind of withdrawal is not the same as the withdrawal from daily I.V. heroin use, but the fact is that there are some withdrawals for me at this dosage and duration that are normally fairly uncomfortable.
With the above combination, I was not only able to get some sleep, but the most irritating symptom of all, restless leg syndrome, was eliminated. Moreover, I found that I had very vivid dreams, and could sit still without any restlessness whatsoever.
A point of fact: after the second day, the combination made me feel BETTER than normal. On the third day I did not take anything until I actually felt some residual symptoms of withdrawal. I wanted to be sure that there was still a physical reaction to the cessation of oxy. There was. So I took the combination and within an hour I felt fantastic.
I realize that withdrawals are a very individual thing. I cannot suggest that the above combination will work for everybody, but I will say that it has been a Godsend for me. I do not normally indulge in opiates for any time frame longer than 8 weeks, so I cannot speak about withdrawals from more serious usage, although my suspicion is that the remedy would not be enough to completely eradicate the harder symptoms. I have gone through benzo withdrawals (8 months straight usage of valium at 50-60mg/day) and I can tell you that the combination will NOT do anything for that kind of withdrawal. It was a different animal altogether. I was trembling and hearing voices and dogs and having seizures for days on end. I should have gone to the hospital, but did not due to reasons I cannot post here. Suffice it to say that I cannot imagine ANY opioid withdrawal being anything like that benzo withdrawal. It felt completely different. It was absolutely terrifying. It took close to three weeks to finish completely. I had a seizure in the second week that scared me to death. Anyway, the point is that the drug combo above did penetrate and eliminate the withdrawals from two months of opioid usage, and I hope that this reference can help others in that regard.
