so far i've only experienced mild withdrawls for 1 to 2 days. but i didn't use enough for it to really become a problem.

Vicodin Withdrawals

Hi!! I was curious if there are any home remedies for vicodin withdrawals. Besides, other drugs. What is the best way to cope with these withdrawals. How long do they last? Anyone out there with experience? I appreciate any input you all may have.

Stand the craves or smoke a little weed... i can imagine that you are shaking a little bit, coldsweating, feeling bunk and life is dull... take the 1-2 day pain or smoke some weed to relive some of it...

How long have you been using and how high is your tolerance?

I'm going to guess that it's rather low. If so, I would recommend using some Imodium (loperamide) or generic. If you do indeed have a low tolerance 10-16mg's should keep you at bay. It won't help cravings much, but it will ease your with-drawls fairly well. You wont need it more than 4 days. Most likely 3.

Good luck.

I have found that for the more mild withdrawals, i.e. those 1-3 day withdrawals associated with low dose usage (< 100mg/day oxy or equal) for short periods (<2 months), there is a drug combination that will take a bit of the edge off.

2400mg neurontin, 90 mg DXM, 25 mg doxylamine succinate, 25mg diphenhydramine, 10mg valium and 800mg ibuprofen twice daily with white grapefruit juice completely ameliorated the withdrawals from 8 weeks straight use of 80mg/day oxycodone.

Granted, this kind of withdrawal is not the same as the withdrawal from daily I.V. heroin use, but the fact is that there are some withdrawals for me at this dosage and duration that are normally fairly uncomfortable.

With the above combination, I was not only able to get some sleep, but the most irritating symptom of all, restless leg syndrome, was eliminated. Moreover, I found that I had very vivid dreams, and could sit still without any restlessness whatsoever.

A point of fact: after the second day, the combination made me feel BETTER than normal. On the third day I did not take anything until I actually felt some residual symptoms of withdrawal. I wanted to be sure that there was still a physical reaction to the cessation of oxy. There was. So I took the combination and within an hour I felt fantastic.

I realize that withdrawals are a very individual thing. I cannot suggest that the above combination will work for everybody, but I will say that it has been a Godsend for me. I do not normally indulge in opiates for any time frame longer than 8 weeks, so I cannot speak about withdrawals from more serious usage, although my suspicion is that the remedy would not be enough to completely eradicate the harder symptoms. I have gone through benzo withdrawals (8 months straight usage of valium at 50-60mg/day) and I can tell you that the combination will NOT do anything for that kind of withdrawal. It was a different animal altogether. I was trembling and hearing voices and dogs and having seizures for days on end. I should have gone to the hospital, but did not due to reasons I cannot post here. Suffice it to say that I cannot imagine ANY opioid withdrawal being anything like that benzo withdrawal. It felt completely different. It was absolutely terrifying. It took close to three weeks to finish completely. I had a seizure in the second week that scared me to death. Anyway, the point is that the drug combo above did penetrate and eliminate the withdrawals from two months of opioid usage, and I hope that this reference can help others in that regard.

For the type of withdrawls you are talking about, it's much easier to take 6-10mg of lopermide(Immodium) and a couple IB Profen, works just as well if not better.

I am familiar with the immodium remedy. For me, it did not penetrate the restless leg syndrome as well as the combination I have described. However, it would seem that if one were to add immodium to the mix, it would work that much better. Next time I will try that and report the effects. Thanks for the heads up.

I agree that the restless leg syndrome is the worst w/d symptom......I fucking hate that shit, laying in bed kicking + flailing like a mad man....

I have found that benzos are the only thing that gets rid of them....diphenhydramine sorta helps too.....

synchrojet-->would you say that its the valium or the diphen. or both that gets rid of this??? Because I agree....Immodium won't do shit besides help diarrhea and chills, to some extent.....

A friend who would often blow through 800mg/day of OC was prescribed from his dr. a combination of Neurontin and Klonodine(sp?) that seemed to work pretty well for him. He was not totally comfortable, but it seemed to take a good part of 'the edge' off for him.

yeah, clonidine does work well for alleviating the chills and sweats....I used to have access to the patches, and would often slap one on when I went a day or 2 w/out using....

I usually just ride out my withdrawal symptoms for at least a day and a half, then take 45mg of hydrocodone and the withdrawals stop. It's kinda like a small taper. I have a relatively small habit compared to a lot of folks on here. I can nod on 60mg hydrocodone and 2 350mg somas. So, for what its worth... I filled out an Opiate Withdrawal Scale and I scored on the low end of moderate withdrawal. I basically have really bad sweats, diarrhea, chills, watery eyes, runny nose, dilated pupils, low motivation and enhanced sensitivity to pain. This is with about a 60mg hydro habit every two days or so for six years. I usually taper off with that over the counter codeine syrup, which has dxm and some antihistamine. It knocks you out at night, keeps the sweats somewhat at bay and helps a tad with gastrointestinal spasms. Some weed and Xanax helps with the psychological part tremendously. I guess my withdrawal kit wouldn't work for most of you, especially if you think 100mg of oxycodone (in any form) a day is a small habit. You guys probably think my withdrawals are nothing. I guess they are, considering I can get up and go to work without any huge problems. I don't get restless legs, either. I'm lucky so far. It's very uncomfortable, but I cannot begin to imagine what some of you folks here on bl go through. It must realllly suck.

Itchyscratchy --

I think it is the combination of all three -- gabapentin (neurontin), valium and diphenhydramine and/or doxylamine succinate. I have tried these things alone before and not gotten the benefit that I get when I combine them all. So I would say it is a synergetic effect. Either way, it does get rid of restless leg syndrome, which for me is also the worst aspect of withdrawing.

Just an FYI: by suggestion from Rosclot I have merged some of the significant WD threads together so we have a more consolidated resource to search through. I think it will be helpful.
