Opioids Mega Merged: Ultimate poppy pod/seed tea thread - Part II

word. every batch varies. be very careful every time you do it; drink slowly over an hour or so to feel it out.
i <3 poppy seed tea. it has provided the cheapest and longest great high's of my time.

i recently came into a large qty. of pods and i was planning on powdering them all and mixing the powder to make a uniform mix that i can measure dosages from. this sound legit?

these wild pods need about 18 grams to get me up. the last ones i had off the internet only needed 14 grams for the same effect. i hope i don't burn out my coffeee grinder i have 500+ grams to grind up

^Grinding and mixing all of the pods is a great idea. One of the most problematic aspects of using pods is the alkaloid variability. This won't completely erase that variability but it will mitigate it quite a bit. Good call

Thanks

Seeing as that one BLer nearly OD'd using half (6 vs 12) in crushed pods, that 1.333 multiplier is certainly off in some cases. But like you said -- and I completely understand -- there are way too many variables. I was just putting it out there in case anyone had some useful input.

I can only share my personal experience but to qualify that, I was making the tea for about 7 months and now I've been primarily consuming the ground pods straight for about 5 months. I use the pods near daily for chronic pain so I have worked out what I find to be the most efficient methods of making tea and now consuming whole (which takes much less effort to maximize effect).

I think that near-OD claim on half the pods he used for tea is more likely an aberration than my figure due to the amount of times I have repeated this process and the careful attention I pay to the effects (since I use it for pain, maximizing analgesia while minimizing side effects is key... aka I don't get high off them).

I also use a small amount, most of my doses are 2-3 very large pods (6-8'' around) so I don't know if that would affect the equation at all.

If you grind up pods and consume the fine powder whole, there is little room for error, however if you make tea there are many ways that you can screw it up and reduce potency or even just reduce the intensity of the peak.

I've seen a lot of recipe's on here that are not very efficient... people boiling the pods, not grinding finely enough, using much more water than necessary (not sure how this would affect potency though) and other inefficient methods. I've also seen people who consume it over long periods of time, etc. that would affect how hard it hits you. I always strained my tea through ice so it was cold and chugged it down immediately and I chug the ground pods down quickly as well, both within maybe 2 min tops, usually more like 30 seconds.

There is always going to be natural variability in potency plus other factors, some of which I mentioned, but I try as hard as I can to standardize the process as much as I can for uniform effects.

I have been drinking poppy tea for a while now. I cant believe the amount of poppy tea that some of you ingest, After 2 years drinking tea 3 to 4 times a week I still get a good buzz with two (high gravity, giant pops) poppies. Maybe the method I use has something to do with it. I open pods throw seeds away and grind the whole thing up very finely and make a tea voila! no wasting straw and no endless filtering either, its pretty nasty but adding lemon juice helps.

How to tell the correct time to harvest Latex from poppy pods

From what I have read, here are a few notes to indicate when a poppy is ready to harvest:

- When there is a dark brown ring below the poppy pod (I can never see this ring)
- When the crown points directly up
- approximately two weeks after flowering

Additionally:

- Do not water plants up to one week before harvesting as the roots suck up the water and dilute the latex

Does anyone else have any points relating directing to the correct time to harvest poppies for latex?

I have the opportunity to get a whole bunch of fresh pods removed from their roots. If I want to lance them for opium should I cut the stems and put them in water before I do this so that I can leave them in the water for 24 hours whilst they bleed?

As the petals are falling off look for the crown to start pointing skyward, that is your easiest clue that it's time to lance. Always do the lancing in the afternoon so the opium will seep more easily, and then in the morning it'll have dried a bit making it easy to collect off of the pod.

^lancing between 2-6pm apparently also gives an increased opium yield compared with a morning harvest.

so i got 1 actually 2 in the same lil pot. the big one has bloomed dropped the leaves and the crown is slightly concave. so its ok or better to harvest a lil early than late? only because of all of the literature i found says wait for the black band, the puffiness of the pod(max latex production point) and all that good stuff.

and as far as a multi day harvest how does that work? would i make a lancing in maybe a five or six point pattern. then the next day after collection make incisions next to those and so forth? thanks again. peace

Unless you're getting hundreds, I would just make fresh pod tea with them. If you are getting hundreds, someone else will have to answer this.

Don't put them in water. Significant amount of goodies would likely get sucked into the water through the stem. Just anecdotal evidence, but my friend told me he had surprisingly ineffective tea from pods that had been kept in a vase for few days.

I want to bleed them for opium, not use them to make pod tea. If they're but at the base will they still bleed? Leaving them in their current location is not an option (I'm getting them from a friend's garden and he want me to take them from the garden right away and not lance them for his housemates to see as he will have to explain it and this situation would be undesireable).

Thanks

you cant really go by a number and expect to be safe. i actually started eating pods raw once i saw that thread and the discussion around it. i do it now because its way more convenient, but i still pretty much use the same dose i would for making tea. it seems like the tea high is stronger compared to eating it for some reason. eating it comes on really slow and gives a strong body high, but thats about it. tea makes me energized for a bit, then i nod.

so basically, you have to start slow, and when your eating it it can really be a pain since you have to wait around 2 hours to start feeling it, and then 2 more after you redose. i dont know why i can do the same amount when i take tea or eat it though...seems like it shouldn't be this way. hell sometimes i want to eat more because im not feeling enough!

Poppy Pod Tea - How long is it good for?

I have about 50 pods and I usually just make enough for a cup or two [hot poppy tea], but I was wondering if its safe for me to make a big batch of poppy pod tea and put it in a pitcher like you would ice tea.. I know the risk with all those pods into 1 liquid, but I have been drinking this stuff for awhile now and I have a tolerance for opiates, I just dotn want them to go to waste, and not have to wait 5-10 minutes for a cup of tea.

So how long does the tea last after you make it for maximum strength?
Is it ok to drink cold? or should it be drank while its still luke warm?
Safe to put in a pitcher (probably only last time 5-8days anyway)

I prefer it cold, actually. Makes it easier to ignore the taste. I don't leave it in the fridge more than 4 days max, not sure if it'd last longer than that but I'd be afraid of mold or other wonky shit happening since it's unpasteurized organic material.

yeah i mix sugar + honey with my cups.. i didnt drink an entire cup one night and it has some funky shit on the top, but i think it was the sugar.

I wouldnt mix the sugar n honey until i poor it into the cup, so it shouldnt happen in the fridge.

but it does seem to work fine in the fridge lollerskte?

Poppy tea is notorious for being able to ferment and/or mold fairly quickly. It might be safe in the fridge for a few days, but I wouldn't really trust it past about 3 days or so. Unrefrigerated, I wouldn't trust it past maybe 4 hours.

I'm the opposite, I always drink it hot and tell myself it tastes no worse than a cup of black coffee (even though it does taste arguably worse).

Yup. And we do one wash in the AM then store the wet grounds in the fridge, then add another couple and rewash it all together that evening. We make sure not to keep any tea/wet grounds more than three or four days, but we've had zero issues and we've been doing this a few months.
