[MEGA] Healthier "alternative"/homemade smoking devices

Lead is expensive why would they put it in a laser pointer?
Maybe if you have one of those really expensive balanced models but I doubt you would make a pipe out of one of those

I believe that lasers produce tiny amounts of radiation, thus lead could be necessary. It's not a particularly powerful laser pointer, just a class III (I think).

As far as i know laser pointers don't actually project lasers; its instead focused ultra bright light i believe

It says on the side "Laser radiation: avoid direct eye exposure." I seriously doubt I could get radiation sickness, I'm just concerned that there may be lead present in the device itself.

I think a cell phone produces more radiation , when they say avoid eye exposure they mean the beam is the radiation.

Laser radiation is not the same as nuclear radioactivity, laser emissions take the form of intense, coherent focussed light, in varying spectrums, from x-ray lasers to infrared beams.

I once made a reasonably powerful I.R laser emitter myself, lasers do not typically emit nuclear radiation, x-ray lasers being perhaps an exception, but you aren't going to find one of those in your £2.99 laser pointer.

Nuclear radiation is the product of decay of unstable elements such as the actinide series, and promethium, to give rise to various forms of particles and gamma radiation, which are byproducts of the particles dissintegration.

A powerful laser will nevertheless burn out the retina of your eye, or in the case of very powerful ones, cut through steel, but damage thusly done, is because the laser emits a beam of intensely focussed, coherent energy, which will cause burns.

is it just the case you're making it out of?

the metal is going to be thin and will probably heat quickly, which means it will give off more fumes. also, there could be glues and laminates in there. I would recommend you not use consumer electronics for pipes :)

ain't that the definition of laser?
Apparently not.
"Laser pointers, however, do not project lasers; instead, they project an ultra bright focused diode instead of a laser beam."

I've used the standard laser pointer cap (the unscrewable part so you can project logos etc..), as a very small cone piece before.. Geez that sucked major arse.

y are u doing this ? why not make a pipe out of a water bottle thatll cost u 0$ and work 5x as well..

I'm making a novelty pipe out of a hand grenade casing, and this old laser pointer that I got when I was in 3rd grade is almost a perfect fit, and it worked well with the metallic theme, in case you're curious.

It's true. A real laser works via a chain reaction of stimulated, photon-emiting atoms. The result is light emitted almost entirely at a single wavelength and phase. Usually, the lasing medium used is a noble gas or some sort of crystal.

ebola

Ok, I finished the grenade pipe. It's kinda metallic tasting, but I imagine it will work quite well. Here's a picture of it:

That thing on top is the bowl, and the mouthpiece is at the very bottom.

I am building a pipe out of a laser pointer, and I was wondering if anyone knew any hazards associated with this. It occured to me while building it that the inside of the laser pointer could contain lead. Anyone have any knowledge of this?

and all i have to say dude,, is to buy a motherfucking bowl. damn it's not that hard. save your own sanity, that's just sketch...

looks pretty cool to me , bet people would buy those nade pipes if you mass produced them.
