^ thank you for posting that. I'm glad there are no hard feelings.

---------------

I'm trying to choose a cannabis strain to grow in a hanging basket (yes, you read that correctly, a hanging basket).

It'll probably be an autoflowering strain and will go in the greenhouse. I bought the moss peat (not 'peat moss' and the wire hanging baskets themselves), so I just need the seeds!

Yeah, I don't really know what the problem is goa, I don't really know much about the technical stuff, if it persists then post about it in support, but I'd check if it's the same on the PC.

AE, keep us posted about the hanging baskets, it's something I've thought about in the past and I'm really interested to hear how you get on.

how does she look to you? she has been in flower for 2wks today, i fed her for the first time today with 5 ltrs of water, i poured it on slowly like you advised and she drank the lot with only a very small amount trickling out the bottom, do you think any thing is wrong with her or do i need to do any thing to help her?

Photos are poor but they look pretty good from what I can see, mate ;) If you turn the HID light off when you're taking a photo but use the flash, and pull back a bit so that I can see more of the plant in one shot, then I might be able to get a better idea about how it looks. I wouldn't worry though, as from what I am able to see it looks fine.

As for the hanging baskets, the only issue I can see is the issue all hanging baskets seem to have - they dry out too quickly, meaning you need to water at least once a day. I have smaller hanging baskets (12") which potentially will dry out quicker than the larger ones, so I'm going to to be using sphagnum moss instead of just a coir insert (the type of coir that's used to make door mats), which retains water really well. People use water retaining gel to help retain water, but cannabis doesn't like this. The sphagnum moss I got is apparently from a renewable source, so hopefully it's not damaging to the environment.

So, I have to design a medium that retains water well, but also drains well and is aerated. I'm definitely going to use seaweed granules that have been designed to retain water, swelling to 8 times their original size and will improve the state of the medium in terms of bacterial activity and soil structure. I'll also include peat moss, since this naturally retains a lot of water and is very stable and will try to use some loam possibly, even if it does make the basket quite heavy. There will have to be a fine mulch on the top to seal the moisture in the basket in and I might even consider some sort of automatic irrigation (the more simple the hanging basket is the better, so I don't want to start messing with something that isn't necessary). In the planting will go a handful of worm compost since it holds water wonderfully.

I've chosen an autoflowering strain because it will cut the growing time (I'd hate to grow a normal strain for the whole season in a hanging basket without some serious training). I should be able to grow two hanging basket crops a year this way. I could even include legitimate plants with the cannabis that act as a natural companion to cannabis and ward off pests and do all sorts of other wonderful things to improve growth.

Will do. Perhaps it would help if I were to post a how to guide with photos (especially if it works really well)?

hey mistee wat time is it over there man?

hey mate,
time was roughly 3,00 PM when i typed that message.
it is now 12,17pm, was on last night, but i was far too ruined off LSD to type any messages.

nice pics there mate, seems to look pretty healthy:D

I just collected (for free!) a whole plastic carrier bag completely full of spent coffee grounds from the local coffee shop that I regularly go to every week.

If you can get coffee grinds for free, you must make the effort to take advantage of them, since they make a superb soil conditioner that retains water beautifully and supplies many trace elements and organic matter!

It's like black gold and a must if you can get it. It even works in containers/pots well. Wise, if you can get some, mulch it on to the soil (don't dig it in) and the worms will pull it under fully. You'll yield more if you do this as much as you can, and it'll also suppress weed seeds.

I'm personally using this first lot to add to my compost tumbler, to make lovely crumbly compost.

Spring time is arriving and I am starting a couple new projects which are going to require some possible deterring against animals. Any outdoor growers here know of a cheap and effective method of keeping small animals out of your garden? I've heard about pissing around the area, but I don't think I will be able to do that in this application this year. I'm worried mainly about squirrels, spiders (like a ton of them) and mice.

There are usually some feral cats running around, maybe if I feed them a couple times, they will return the favor in the form of protecting my garden. Thanks man, I'll give it a try.

If it's just small animals, then really the best way is to use a barrier protection, meaning a wire screen held up with a few fence posts or long bits of wood.

There are other techniques but this works very well, and keeps animals both big and small out.

The only problem I can foresee with cats is that they love munching on fan leaves for some reason. They do hate the buds, but the leaves are like a treat to them. It's as if the fan leaves are catnip to them.

Cat munching on weed! =D

I personally use 'Lion's Roar', which is a product that contains pellets with essence of Lion dung. This puts most animals right off the area, but you're right in saying that human piss also works in a similar way.

^ I have seen cats eat green leaves before, but never flowers. That video is funny.

The wire mesh sounds like a good idea. I have some 2" wire mesh for a dog fence, but I think it's a little too big of separation where small animals could still get in the holes. I might be able to pick up some 1/2" wire mesh for this garden though. I bet that would work great. Thanks man!

^ on the main British sites, a wire cage is pretty much standard practice with the rabbits over here. One other thing though - if you ever have an issue with deer (for a long while I didn't even know deer were eating my plants until I knew what signs to look for), soap is a great way of deterring them.

No problem, hope it works out well for you. Don't forget to post some pics of your handy work! I would also get some copper tape to wrap around the cylindrical wire cage, to make sure you don't get any slugs. Copper tape should be cheap.

Guys, I finished the greenhouse frame at last!! I just have to clad it (add the acrylic/polycarbonate) and then I'm done. It's dark now and I'm tired, so it'll probably be clad tomorrow if all goes well.

Get chicken wire and put it around the area you're growing in.Or get some stakes and some thick plastic bags i cant rember what there called but we used to use them when i planted native trees for work to stop kangaroos and rabits from getting to our plant.

Would someone please be kind enough to help me out with something?

I plan to take a time lapse video of the plants growing in my greenhouse (which I plan to post up on Bluelight, if this is at all possible - is it?), and I have what I need to do it, however, I need to know one thing; what frame rate would be recommended? Should I set it to take a photo once per day? I understand that the more frequent I take the photos, the smoother it will appear, but it will be a slower/longer video, so I'm not sure what the happy medium would be. If nobody can help I'll just do another google search and find out that way (no big deal).

Also, does anyone have any ideas for less conspicuous greenhouse shading? I can't use that emulsion/white wash shading paint since it will damage the acrylic greenhouse panels. I saw a green fabric thing that goes over the roof, in B&Q, but I don't think it would cover the sides, and the roof of the greenhouse will be non-see-though polycarbonate anyway, so it's not needed here.

^Erm, I think it's possible, I'd probably have to get the senior staff to do it...the thing is, I think they'd only really want to do it if it was something directly HR related. You can post a link to a youtube video by all means, and I will ask, but I can't make any promises.

Can't you just use a tarp?

^ I can upload it to Youtube somehow probably, but don't worry if it's not allowed.

The problem with tarp is that I'm not so sure it would let enough light in. I think the fabric shading designed for the sides will probably be the answer (maybe that's what you meant). Either that or just stick with bubblewrap insulation.

One more thing. The DR120 tent I'm using to start my plants (tomatoes etc) is broken. The zip, when I pull it to close the tent, doesn't close it properly and it stays open, if that makes any sense. I just can't get it to catch. Can anyone suggest a solution? I think I'm probably just going to have to buy a new one, but that's a pain as it cost a lot of money. The new tent versions are meant to have better quality zips though, so perhaps getting a new one would be best.
