Man, so much hating on which animal you prefer in this thread. It's just a preference.

Can't we celebrate that we all love and care for animals?

In my experience, I have found that it is generally a sign of a good soul in a person if I find out they care for and cherish animals, regardless of the species.

There is a funny line from the simpsons when homer decides to try and mate their dog with their cat and he says "It will have the loyalty of a cat and the cleanliness of a dog"

I like dogs better but cats are definetly a trip. When I used to trip a lot I swore that my mom's cats knew that I was tripping and were trying to mess with me.

^^ I swear our cat Smoodge knows when we're under the influence as well =D
The other 2 kitties seem oblivious, but Smoodge definitely knows something's up ;) :D

Yep definitely, and in the opposite light, anyone who doesn't like animals, to me, is a complete and utter weirdo. I would never even associate with someone who doesn't love animals.
HOW could one not love animals??
It really does not compute in my brain at all.

^^ That's a rather interesting and over-generalised view on the situation :D

:p;)

I grew up with (lots of) dogs and never really had a cat-- maybe a year ago I would have said dogs were better than cats. But now that I have two cats and love them dearly I have to say I prefer cats over dogs. The only dogs I've ever been around are horribly undertrained and pee and poop everywhere. They require tons of attention and (since I live in the city) you have to pick up their poop in a bag. I would definitely rather scoop litter with a scooper than pick up a steaming poop with my hands. Also, dogs can be very smelly and need to be regularly bathed and groomed. One of my cats smells like those strawberry shortcake dolls, like cake or something.

I find cats to have tons of personality and to be very playful, and to be interesting and beautiful to look at.

to all the people saying that cats aren't very social; you have obviously never owned a Burmese before! follows me everywhere (even the shower) like a dog, and plays fetch too!

DOGS>kitties

What is a purr anyway? YOu ever seen a hairball the size of a baseball? Keep it as a momento I guess. *Fuzzy's first Hball..awwww*

Cat people are givers.Dog people are takers.

The only things you give are ridiculous names to your cats. That's another thing; cat names. I could go all day on that one, but I'll stop there.

How many cats will come to you if you call their names? Cats that aren't yours personally, but that you just meet and call them to come over to you...? Practically ALL dogs(unless abused) will come galloping to your feet eager to see you.

Cats just have that pissed off look on their face all the time like it's a chore to interact with humans.

When have you ever seen a dog bite his owner? I have friends whose cats will scratch the shit out of them cuz they're in a bad "kitty mood"

"Oh haha she's just being sassy today, no big deal." Since when is it normal for a pet to attack its own handler, and be considered a loving pet?

I don't judge an animal's worth by its ability to capitulate to my every whim. Aloofness a testament to a cat's nature, a nature that is unique and independent, and serves evolutionary and survival imperatives.

Many breeds of canine have been completely anthromutated into novelty items, or objects of fancy; a vestige of shame to their proud, strong, and agile predecessors.

Cats just have that pissed off look on their face all the time like it's a chore to interact with humans.

Cats don't show emotion with their face, they show emotion with their ears and tails. It's this sort of bizarre thinking that motivates breeders to "breed out" animal characteristics in favor of human approved ones. It's this sort of anthocentrism that has destroyed so many domestic breeds and made them completely dependant on humans. Charles Darwin would shit his pants were he alive to witness our handiwork.

Dogs are pack animals. It isn't in their nature to bite their owner. They do however bite infants, neighbors, mailmen and other dogs... and when they do, you hear about it in the news. Cats are unique, but ultimately predictable. If you've been bitten by a healthy cat, I'll bet you that cat gave you ample warning first. Perhaps you got upset at it because it wouldn't come when called, so you decided to provoke it. Otherwise the cat is just playing. It's up to the owner to cut its nails.

Since when is it normal to value other creatures solely by their ability to make us happy?
