Just a quick update (for those who care
)
I am extremely happy with my choice of Mussolini as my new family member! It really could not be a better match.
At first I was a little worried he didn't like humans ... or would never warm up to me, but everyday he gets more relaxed and recognizes who I am. It is so cute when he starts he little guinea pig "talk" begging for food every time he hears a plastic bag. Or if i set him down on my couch and walk into the next room he cries till I get my ass back in the room so he can see me. So adorable!
I bring him to my mothers house with me all the time too, so he can socialize with more then just me, since i rarely have company over at my apt (i work 3rd shift so my social life tends to lack). My mother has a cat who is 8 years old, fat, and grumpy who has never gotten along with another cat let alone another animal in it's life, but she finally has made a friend. She loves to lay next to Mussolini and watch him play. She has never pawed or hissed at him. Miracles do happen ...
This Monday, I am going to go out and find Mussolini a friend. So everyone start thinking of new names! (it'll be a male of course)
Does anyone know, would the pet store I adopted Mussolini from, allow me to bring him back in with me to see if there is any other pigs he gets along with or interacts with better then others?
I'd hate to bring a new pig home, and find out that the other pig does not get along with other males. I know there is a 14 day return policy, if that situation arises. I am hoping mine will be fine, since he is quite young, and lived with 5 other males when I got him. But you never know.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions on making a home made cage for them? I currently use a standard cage that you find at any store, but obviously that is not enough room for two pigs. I would like to somehow use my existing cage in with the new one I build if it is possible, but not sure how I would do that without having to cut the metal bars.
I am currently leaning on the "cube shelf" designs. I work at a department store, so I can get a lot of the cubes for cheap on clearance.
a few pictures of what I am talking about
But any other suggestions on styles/materials I should consider, I am all ears.
