[MEGA] Cannabis Strain discussion thread

Strain names aren't complete bullshit...

ive smoked northern lights (in australia) and it was quite good...the problem is though, when people assume that the Northern Lights 'Person A' got will be the same as the NL that 'Person B' got. In addition, there is no rule that says a hybrid plant can't be superior to a plant thats got a name.

happy smoking :)

lol. if you got some weed, smoke it. if not, go buy some. then smoke it. GO!

it just annoys me when total rookeis say soemthing like "OH MY GOD.... XXXXXX XXXX IS THE BEST STRAIN IN THE WORLD, GUARANTEED"

i mean....... there are so many factors that affect quality.

^^ Werd !!

The Northern Light I've smoked has been awesome, very stoned, but I've had better.

I used to get Northern Lights from the clubs. Everything that comes out of there is named and documented, and even then the quality isn't always consistent each time you buy.

Still, NL was always some good bud for getting extremely high and sitting around tripping on shit unable to communicate properly. Fun times.

yeah but strain x is noticeably different from strain y...

northern lights highs are usually weak but pleasant....nl is good if u actually want to do stuff while high....

I always want to know the strain of what im buying, you gotta know! NL is a great smoke but that all depends if it was grown properly, cured and dried. That being said ive had much better :D

I forgot the link now, try searching their is a site that databases lots of reviews both grow/grown for the huge majority of strains available (Cannagenics or something like tat i think)

The Northern Lights I tried was pretty intense. Probably the most stoned I'd been and I could feel my hearty pounding all the way through the experience.

I had northern lights in Amsterdam (it was organic) and I took about bong hits and was set back along ways. For a dumb reason i smuggled some back for my friends and they all loved it alot. ITs strong but needs to be grown right

I've had excellent NL in Amsterdam, I've also had pretty average NL there. I think it's a nice strain, with a kind of dopey, yet
heavy and "narcotic" kind of high. But you have to grow and cure it well.

You guys haven't a fucking clue....

"Northern Lights" is the name for weed grown in sub-arctic areas where you get 4 -- 6 months of continuous sun.

Or so I've heard.

I question how you might get buds to form under continous daylight conditions.... Maybe the sun in these areas never gets higher than it does at 8 am (for us), and this strikes a neat balance in the plant's biorhythms so that it grows continuously yet thinks autumn's coming so that it puts out buds....

I've had a strain of northern lights from a friend who is a member of the canabis club. Canabis club are members of medical patients who have a perscription to purchase legal marijuana in california. Anyways all the pot you buy from there comes in a labeled bag with precautions, so I guess im saying that thats the closest to Northern Lights I've seen with evidence of proof. I can say it was extremely potent and a great smoke.

TheGreenPhantom: Im not exactly sure where the name is from, but I'm pretty sure most factors can be recreated inside a hydroponic indoor system, if done right with the right tools.

PS I have bought hundreds of baggies of dealers who claimed it was northern lights (probably one of the most common strain names), but none of them ever came close to the one I obtained from my friend. So I am still skeptical about most strains which is why I rarely ask anymore and just look to see how good it is, unless I get them directly from my friend with the little label on the bag. All in all, the best weed I've smoked was government grown or when I was outside the US (mainly canada and amsterdam).

BTW yes, the label does also say Do Not operate heavy machinery when under the influence! lol.

LOL, we haven't a clue, yet you're not sure? Trust me, it is a strain, I have been around growers for approaching decade and personally watched a few harvests of NL taken down for curing. It's a strain, and a damn good one at that :)

Oh, and btw, the original NL was a mix of an Afghan indica and a Thai Sativa, most people agree it came out of Washington (as in Seattle, Tacoma, etc. , not DC) based on some genetics developed in San Diego. I also heard the name Neville Schoenbottom thrown around on Overgrow, not sure if it can be traced directly to him or if it just came from that general direction.

To be honest I don't remember when it first appeared, either (80's?), but I think it was definitely not commonly grown untill about eight years ago - but then again I was very new on the scene then so I wouldn't really know.

Now a days there are TONS of different NL strains - it has been crossed with everything under the sun. Sensi claim to have the original strain, not sure how much one can put faith in that statement, but in the end it doesn't matter. Good dope is good dope, whether it's been crossed with something new or not, hell, crossing is how the original NL came to be!

Oh, and lastly, you can't get buds without the correct lightcycle - people that want to grow in odd conditions like the arctic are shit out of luck with regular strains. All you can really do is get a Ruderalis based strain (the third and least known of the three, sativa, indica and ruderalis).

Rudarlis yields suck ass, but they flower automatically after 12 weeks whatever the sunlight. Any pot grown under such conditions would not be particularly desirable.

LOL @ everyone in this thread. :p ;)

Word up to Northern Lights. That stuff was some of the first headies I ever toked upon, and to this day a well-grown Northern Lights is my absolute favorite herb. It may not be the strongest but its a beautiful buzz.

My god some of you are ignorant.

Strain names are not bullshit. Yes, dealers try to make up names to sell their product, but seed banks have the real deal. If your order Durban Poison, you get Durban poison. And If you grow your own, or buy from a grower that knows what he is growing and doing, then you get the correct strain.

and yes, different breeders may have the same strain names with different products, but thats why they are different breeders. Everyone crosses their plants differently. I can go more into detail but don't want to waste my time, or your time for learning about "bullshit strains"

what's the thc content of.........
