I know nothing about medical marijuana except the bits I hear on the news once in a while, ie, I don't really keep up.
My friend is a schizophrenic. He takes his normal Risperidone a day to go to sleep and some Concerta to snap out of Risperidone stupor to try to be productive (he loves it and 60 x 36mg would be gone in a week with him running around like a chicken without head - he used to be on "massive doses of ritalin" when he was a productive citizen and had a great job, wife and a son). He has to be pressured to take Risperidone so it knocks down his brain function a few octaves so he won't be seeing or hearing anything or voices or ghosts as much so he can sleep... works sometimes and sometimes not... he doesn't like the effect as it makes him feel lame. This is so far pretty much the only thing our country figures as remedy and does for our schizophrenic citizens... Often he looks quite normal but only superficially.
They will not and he cannot get institutionalized unless he voluntarily admits himself and his family can afford the cost. When he loses it and running around wanting kill someone, doesn't recognized family members or friends, leave his car in the middle of street in drive cockeyed and walks home and say he totaled his car - car was fine and he said when He said, "Amen" the totaled car magically came together undamaged..., contacts CIA & FBI that there are beings hiding in his yard watching him and sneaks in his room to fcuk with his stuff (CIA & FBI actually returned his letter saying it's a local jurisdiction matter 8) ), punches through walls and destroys houses (he's so far completely gutted out the interiors of two $300K+ perfectly good houses - one his own and the other a rental), we call 911 and the half the town police force show up to take him to emergency room, but he's often released within hours or in a couple of days: maximum they can hold him in hospital is 2 weeks.)
What he does as his self-medication, other than Risperidone, is he smokes a lot of pot or the spice fake pot, alcohol and cigarettes. After a while we can see that it kinda works to keep him in his room just talking to himself and occasionally screams but that's to be expected. At least he doesn't completely lose touch with reality... well if you talk to him more than a few sentence, you'll know his mind has completely lost the grip of reality... but all we can hope is he exists as uneventfully and as quietly and to himself as possible without acting out. Schizophrenia is not curable and we all understood that a long time ago. As family they just can't abandon him out to the street.
Here is the point: the fake spice pot he was getting from the neighborhood has become illegal in Illinois, I think, that he cannot get it anymore. He ordered some from online store but they were pretty much shit and didn't do anything. His family is trying to control his cigarette smoking and massive alcohol consumption as they can see and hear his coughing and doing all that stuff is killing him. If he can have enough pot, it would be ultimate but as much as he smokes, it is not really doable at least for the price we can find, even if we find some decent enough stuff.
(sorry, it became long winded and too much about schizophrenia.)
Is it possible to get medical marijuana in IL?
If not, what does it take to get it, like in what states, for type of medical conditions, and cost, etc etc?
TIA
