Does anyone have experience with a MECHANICAL analytical balance for sub 10mg dosing? I may purchase a Mettler H80 if the price is right.

I used an old mechanical balance for a while. It was pretty accurate from what I could tell.

I use one of these

WM Ainsworth and Sons DLB w/ a damper

It is quite accurate and I feel comfortable weighing out single digit mg doses with it.

I think it's awesome that apparently you can build these yourself. The best would be to use an electrical component with it that measures tiny fluctuations (I forgot the name for it). Actually I have considered building one as a pet project but doubt if it will ever come to that.

Also it seems possible to combine a mechanical part with a ready-to-go scale like a lever system to increase the accuracy....

do you have any links or other info ?

Is Cahn Model G any good? I doesn't look like any balance I've ever seen, seems to be old as hell and you can get one for like fifty bucks... but specs say it's 1.5g x 0.1ug.
