So, took MDMA once about two months ago and was not recovering well from it. Having low dopamine and low serotonin symptoms (trouble typing, ear ringing, depression) that persisted for weeks, sensitive to medications in general so this is not completely surprising.
Initially, had been taking 5-HTP, as recommended. But taking that seemed to make the low-dopamine problems worse. Someone recommended stopping all supplements. Seemed like a good idea, but recovery still was not happening.
A few weeks later, talked with holistic doc who says the brain needs help replenishing serotonin and dopamine stores and re-establishing synaptic connections. He recommended resuming 5-HTP and a few other things.
Now, using the following things as needed, feeling much better and on the way to recovery:
-5-HTP
-P5P and B6
-B-vitamins in general
-DLPA
-L-tyrosine (take serotonin precursors along with dopamine precursors and vitamin cofactors)
-magnesium
-vinpocetine (for brain circulation)
-ALCAR
-TMG (increases levels of some neurotransmitters)
In other cases of brain issues perhaps best to stop all supplements, but in this case where the problem is depletion, it worked better to take a bunch of replenishing supplements.
Better to take a broad-spectrum replacement rather than just one thing (5HTP) since that can stop working if it's taken alone.
Happy that brain is now doing even better than before the MDMA, with all of these replenishing things. Better concentration and mental energy (probably from the vinpocetine and ALCAR).
(ALCAR should be taken along with Alpha-lipoic-acid if possible, but ALA gives me headaches so I use other antioxidants instead.)
Don't give up on the brain! It can recover!
