This was released yesterday, Sept, 30, 2010 and if you scroll down to Senate Bill 1449....

This bill changes the crime of possession of less than an ounce of marijuana from a misdemeanor punishable only by a $100 fine to an infraction punishable by a $100 fine. Under existing law, jail time cannot be imposed, probation cannot be ordered, nor can the base fine exceed $100 for someone convicted of this crime.

Rejoice! :D

tl;dr If you're caught with less than an ounce you get a $100 fine, no court appearance, and no criminal record.

the bill passed awhile ago actually, i guess it finally got signed into action and is in affect now

congrats cali, now its time for november 2nd, the next steping stone towards legalization

From what I've been reading yesterday was the last day for him to sign or veto it, but yes the bill itself is pretty old

ME, MA, NY, NC all beat you guys by a mile despite your "medical marijuana" bullshit and yet of course iPad carrying Californians think they just passed a historic milestone.

EAST SIDE, BITCHES

In Texas cops can give you a a ticker OR take you to jail, completely their choice if you get caught with less than 2 ounces.

In Austin Texas weed is kinda decriminalized since it's a hippy/liberal/music city.

You can smoke weed at festivals without worry of being arrested, it's done completely out in the open around cops who are there for security.

I've actually heard (but never experienced for myself) the exact opposite about Texas.

Apparently police are ridiculous when it comes to drug-related issues. Again, though, that's just what I've been told and I'm not even sure what parts of Texas people have been referring to.

Texas is too fuckin' big.

its prolly the individual police forces that set their own standards about how to deal wit it, depending who is in charge and what not

Depends on the part. Austin Texas is pretty safe, most cops don't care if you smoke and they even have tattoos and probably smoke themselves. I saw a cop hitting a joint at a festival one time, I swear to god lol. It was that or a rolled cigerette. But yea cops in Austin can have longer hair and tattoos and even earrings. It's the only liberal city in Texas and Austin is known for it's psychedelic themed art in the city as well as psychedelic festivals and drugs.

It's legal for females to be topless in Austin, most parts anyway.

Only in Austin Texas can you goto a Festival known for drug use, purchasing ect. You see people selling mushrooms and weed cookies out in the open. People going around "anyone want mushrooms"? This festival is in a park right in the city limits lol.

Whenever I got a DWI in Austin they didn't even charge me for having a 2FT bong, bowl and weed. I got charged for just the DWI = )

thank god for no court or probation!!
thats such a huge relief.

Does anybody know if the laws are different in cars? Is it the same if you have a sack in the car or the trunk or something?

thats surprising concidering they still stone people to death for not going to church in texas:D lol

Drug laws suck here in florida along with all the ignorance against it.

I got so much shit from my doctor for testing possitive from weed( I get tested cause I'm perscribed multiple pain medication) she even was ready to drop me as a patient. I really need to move to cali and get medical since I have several health problems that it helps.

hahahahhaha

:D

*throws up an 'E'*

I still maintain the best pot I ever smoked was in rural upstate New York. Everyone and their brother was selling, growing, or at the very least smoking the stuff. It's not decriminalized to any extent like it is in some other states but in effect, at least in more liberal areas -- and there are still a lot of real hippies up there in some places -- It was (and still is) only nominally illegal. As of a few years ago it worked like this, I think ti still does -- the first 2 times you get caught with under 25 grams, it is first a $100 and then a $200 fine which is like a traffic ticket, it does not go on your record or anything. Then the 3rd time if they wish they can hit you with a misdemeanor as they can for smoking marijuana in the public view. But a lawyer can help you nagivate through the whole mess with pretty minimal consequences, even on copious amounts. Unless, of course, you are black ...

So, the interesting thing to me about this bill is not political but economic. I was really amused and fascinated to observe from afar some really interesting Realpolitik in which people who are in the present "industry" put a substantial amount of effort into promoting against full decriminalization, because it would be harmful to their economic bottom line. I'm really interested to see what this will do to the prevailing market prices and how that could have a ripple effect out of California. As yet we haven't seen anything of the sort; in fact, the weed market in New York has been suffering from ruinous deflation* for many years. We are now just beginning to see the light at the end of that tunnel though; part in thanks to our counterparts on the West coast.

But its still east coast 4 lyfe <3

*edited to change 'inflation' to 'deflation' because its technically right cause for my thoughts on this from an economic perspective Im always trreating the particular agricultural commodity as the underlying asset not the cash ...
