alrihgt. well for the past couple of months i've been shedding more hairs than usual, and it all started when i started to smoke weed about a yeahr ago. its gotten worse since i started smoking some potent weed.
i've heard the usual"hipies with long hair" totally tue, but everyone is different.
i've cheked the web asn some people claim that when they started smoking they lost hair or it got hinner, and after quitting it stpped and some hair regrew.
i think it happens for various reasons.
anybody has any experiences?

what are those various reasons you got there man?? i think your blaming your misfortunes on "drug use", sorry.

yeah, I gotta agree. I'm 54 years old and have been smoking for 40 years and I have a full head of hair.

anything is possible, of course, washing your hair might help

(and for the record, no, it isn't likely)

well as it turns out..
i've been to a dermatologist, and she told me that sometimes due to smoking, i guess hair dosent get enough oxygen, nutrients etc. and well hair wont grow in environments that are not sustanable to grow.also due to the panic that weed causes, it produces stress..also not enough blood in your scalp.
well im glad you guys have all your hair(and yes i wash my hair)..keep smoking
imma give it a rest for 3 months..see what happens..hopefully hair will get thicker

i really hope its not the weed, and im really going bald. cause i dont want to stop smoking.its the shit

My personal experience as a person who's smoked off and on (mostly on) the last forty years and has male pattern baldness is that pot acutally increases hair growth.

I was noticably bald on the back of my head by mid thirties and of course then it progresses to your forehead geting larger (thinning in the front).

Anyway, a couple years ago I was in a work/career/location situation where I had no connection for a little over three years. During that time my hair thinned out more than it had been. Just chocked it up to the natural progression of male pattern hair loss. Well, I've been back on the ganja for at least a couple years daily and my hair is filling in nicely.

My theory is that it's related to totesterone levels. Most male pattern baldness is caused IIRC by either the totesterone level being high or the type of hair folicles that males with baldness have are sensitive to the totesterone level.

It is fairly well established that regular use of cannabis lowers totesterone levels.

yes i know people get go bald in their 20's.

maybe its just me..
but anyhow..tomorrow i wil start a 3 month quitting process.
hopefully something happens

yeah fairly well established propaganda. thought up by the same researchers that suggest it causes erectile dysfunction, male infertility and genetic disorders i bet.

Oh, and i have all my hair. I think your loss would have more to do with genetic reasons than mj.

"Each and every strand of hair comes from a hair follicle, which you might term the "root", its under the scalp and where the hair is actually "alive".....the follicle (root) is fed by BLOOD from the body, blood is what gives it...its strength and its food in order for it to grow and regrow as every hair does......
When a body is smoking...ANYTHING.....it is robbed of oxygen....A body robbed of oxygen, does not work the same - - it has blood that is robbed of oxygen . - - -which makes THAT blood weak and not work as well - - - that blood is what FEEDS that hair follicle.....feeding the hair follicle is what produces the hair strand and keeps it growing and enables the follicle to re-grow the hair strand after it sheds ( as every single hair does).
Robbing the blood of oxygen...of course will rob the follicle and eliminate hairs from regrowing once shed, some will grow back and some won't. less and less will grow back on individuals that smoke tobacco and even more so on individuals that smoke Pot. Taking a hit of Pot feels like someone has burned the inside of your lungs, so that indicates to most that Marijuana smoke is worse than tobacco smoke. There fore the casualties are worse. Its only logical the only ones that do not agree with this are the ones that smoke dope. They are in denial, as most addicts are. "
im going to get off it for a couple of months to see what happens..i have nothing to loose, except maybe save some money by not smoking and making my resistance go way down..
ill ge back to it in time..

Do you wear Hats more often sense starting to smoke weed.

All of my friends from highschool, who wore hats in their teens
who still wear hats to this day and are around 22-25 have started to lose their hair.

I, don't wear hats, not even in the winter and yet somehow i manage to maintain a Lions Mayne worth of hair.

I thought hair loss is due to genetics. If your mothers father (your grandpa on mothers side) is bald chances are you will be too.

Dr. Greenthumb,

Umm yeah who ever wrote that piece about smoking and hairloss has been smoking something stronger than pot.

My wife smokes 2 packs a day of cigarets and weed and has hair thicker than a jungle. I smoke 1 pack a day and weed and have a full head of hair.

Oh and ED and pot is bullshit too so is infertility (my three kids are pretty strong proof of that)

Pop Rocks and coke also will not make your stomach explode

no i dont smoke nothign stronger than pot..
just good all blunts, joints, pipe and bongs..
its just that it probably is genetic, but all im saying is that since i started smoking pot, it has increased my hairloss dramatically..
i probably would have gotten bald in my 30 maybe, but all im saying is that MAYBE pot has increased the hairloss.
oh and i have been warring hats alot, but i doubt it has anythign to do with it..yu nevr know.

i now there is people that smoke 5 packs of cigarrets a day and never get cancer, while there is some that smoke a couple of years and develp cancer..
my grandma is 70 and shes been smoking everyday and she just coughs alot, but she dont got cancer..
all im saying is that everyone is different..

taowarrior im glad you and yur wife have alot of hair, but maybe in the future yu might develop cancer and i wont..(everyone is different)

"Probably the general toxicity of the drug is slowing down cell
proliferation in the hair follicles - we know the drug collects in the
hair fiber (hence hair testing) so it seems the follicles pick it up
quite well. If the slow down in cell proliferation is significant the
follicles will shut down and enter a telogen resting state until the
environment is more conducive to growth."

ok. so i smoked on saturday and yesterday my head felt really tingly...but compared to today it felt not as bad..
im going to try and go a couple of months to see if i feel any thing different..
ill keep posting.

ok.so i stoped smoking for about 1 week and a half, and even tought i went through some bad dreams and sweating during night, my mind and body felt pretty good after the first 5 days or so.
unfortunately i smoked today so im going to try and stop again...
i've noticed that i have grown 2 hairs that are blond(all of my hair is black),and i have never grown blond hair before..
could it be that my pot has too many chemicals..i live in souther cali. and the last few months i have bought some pretty smelly herb.i know it was grown hydro. so maybe that could explain why im having an overall hair loss.not only on my scalp but on my legs too..i have noticed a big difference..
hopefully someone knows about this.
thankx.
oh and today for sures was my last time smoking for the remainder of the year!

Weed has got nothing to do with your hair loss.. Maybe less oxygen to your hair like you mentioned because of smoking in general, not the chemicals in weed. Maybe from stress you may have gotten from smoking weed, best deal with your problems... WEED has nothing to do with your hair loss :P And of course if your goinna go and see if stopping smoking for a day and smoking the day after and seeing if your head gets itchy or whatever, its obvious theres goinna be some effects all in your head.. Itchy head- not sure that has anything to do with hairloss

all i did here was sum up some basic information from this thread and put in some logic, could have done that yourself but it seems that you won't just accept it. Or if your just using this a journal about your hair it's best not to
