OCALA,FL – Hours after he was booked into the Marion County Jail following his arrest on possession of precursor chemicals to manufacture DMT and resisting arrest without violence, Dallas Keen made his first appearance in front of a judge Thursday morning.

DMT, or Dimethyltryptamine, is known as Ecstasy, a hallucinogen.

The 22-year-old Ocala man told the judge he was going to hire an attorney. His bond was set at $102,000.

Outside the room at the jail where inmates appear via video link with judicial officials, Keen told a Star-Banner reporter he is “feeling a lot better now,” compared to Wednesday night. He said he was going to “stay away from DMT and get my life back on track.”

“I regret having it,” he said about the products used to make the drug.

Drug agents secured a warrant to search a storage shed owned by Keen late Wednesday night, but they did not found any drugs or products to make DMT.

Previous story:

When Ocala police officers went to 3450 SW 19th Place on Wednesday afternoon, they thought they were going there in hopes of preventing someone from committing suicide.

Instead, officers ended up calling the Marion County Fire Rescue HAZMAT Team, who in turn alerted local drug agents on a discovery that officials said they had never seen before in Ocala or Marion County.

"Although we've dismantled 14 meth labs this year, this is the first time that we've discovered an Ecstasy lab within Ocala/Marion County," said Lt. Donnie Winston of the Marion County Sheriff's Office and head of the High Intensity Drug Enforcement Team (HIDTA).

At the location, agents assigned to the Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Team or MADET and their counterparts from HIDTA said that, while city officers were assessing the scene, a K-9 had alerted on a car.

Officers said they noticed some strange ingredients while searching the car, and they notified other authorities.

Epsom salt, measuring beakers, Mimosa Hostilis Root Bark, scales, drain cleaners, goggles and other items that, when mixed together, produces Dimethyltryptamine, were found inside the vehicle belonging to 22-year-old Dallas Keen, according to officers.

Officers said they also recovered $1,900 in cash from the vehicle, and drug paraphernalia from inside the residence.

According to the Department of Justice website, Dimethyltryptamine, or DMT, came into prominence in the 1930s, and gained popularity in the 1960s as a hallucinogen.

In the U.S., the website states, DMT has no medical use; however, it can be used by researchers with the approval of the federal government.

Keen told the Star-Banner while seated in the back of an Ocala police squad car that he takes DMT once every couple of months and it can be taken orally or you can smoke it. He said his method of choice is to take it orally because he has asthma.

"It breaks down your reality and makes you explore deeper levels of your consciousness," a handcuffed Keen said.

Keen said he purchased DMT but wouldn't say where.

He also said the material used to make DMT, which was confiscated by drug agents, was going to be used by him to make DMT so "I could have a personal stash to give to friends."

While talking with agents, Keen ran but was quickly caught by officials, police said.

btw, those are not typos, I really did copy the article. The author thinks that DMT equals ecstasy... -_-

Lol at this whole article. One of my favorites is "Officers said they noticed some strange ingredients while searching the car, and they notified other authorities. No wonder the extracts were never good.....someone forgot to add the goggles!!!!! Damnit!
Also WTF is wrong with this jackass? Is he mentally deficient or did he smoke his DMT to often? Why don't you just tell the officers your trying to make SI chems in your house then planning to distribute it to friends...thats certainly not going to harm him in court! Seriously though did he never learn the first rule of being arrested on drug charges? You never talk to the police! Their not there to help the junkie scum, duh!;)

This and the article about a mushroom factory that has been seized, for more than 3 grams:

So LOL!

Journalist should research their shit, if anyone should!

//blazR

Yeah...my friend got SS from rolling on DMT everyday for weeks... *facepalm*

exactly right, with a good lawyer, he could've possibly gotten off on making it for personal consumption but "giving it to the friends" is equally illegal as selling it so he's screwed.

I just feel like if he had a good lawyer, the lawyer could explain the necessity for a large amount of precursor considering the yield is low. He could've said he didn't want to deal with a dealer or w/e.

He should've talked to one person and one person only:his lawyer. His lawyer is the only person in this scenario besides himself that gives a shit about his wellbeing, albeit cause he's paid but still.

and I wonder who/and why thought he was trying to kill himself...

I cant read past the second paragraph... I just cant.
DMT is known as ecstasy? Wow... I can't express the loss in faith in humanity.
Soon crack, paracetamol and sausages will be known as ecstasy fuck sake.

What if you have a mimosa tree growing in your backyard, and the epsom salt, measuring beakers, scales, drain cleaners, goggles and other items were mixed together because they fell in your pool?

DMT is no WoW.

I stopped reading after "DMT, or Dimethyltryptamine, is known as Ecstasy, a hallucinogen." because my DMT was kicking in and I was rolling too hard on my lollercoaster.

TL;DR: dude shoulda been more careful

I fear that with that argument route, it would encourage the crackdown on DMT-containing plant materials, such as MHRB.

I hate to say but the dude should just take responsibility seeing as he sold himself out, ran, not to mention the article mentioning the neighbors saw people coming and going at all hours. Not responsible behavior if your into that sort of thing and don't want to get caught.

I'm not saying he deserves any of the trouble btw, the war on drugs is a crock of shit, but at the same time, I don't want any others with this sort of endeavor to be unable to do so in that DMT is a very important psychedelic. I have a friend who turned his life around and overcame an alprazolam addiction with the chemical. This is once instance. I just see a lot of use in this tool and don't want it to be harder to access.

^I agree. Futhermore, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out that the three of them habitually smoked marijuana cigarettes...refers.. I mean, the only entity that should be stepping in in a case like this (if any) is the FDA imo, since he was starting to distribute, according to himself, and there's no quality control in that. Giving some away to friends, big deal right? What about if he botched an extraction and one of his friends ingested lye or some shit like that? This is why the FDA should handle these cases imo, well an ideal FDA.

@Folly: lol

^ lol, nice quote DexterMeth.

Exactly...in an ideal situation, they would've been like "hey dude, you need a license, some better equipment like actual glassware for the extraction(s), a sterile environment, etc."

and I don't consider mason jars glassware IDEAL for chemistry, though they are used by many people for extractions, I'm sure if people had easier access to proper equipment, those with an interest would rise above the rest and put out stuff cheap enough to be had by all without the necessity for people to try to personally extract the DMT.

Or (I don't wish this on anyone, but their need to be rules set in place), when one of his friends wound up dead from accidently poisoning themselves to death with lye, he'd be given a 3rd or 2nd degree manslaughter charge.

So.. 1) he didnt even have any DMT? (excuse me, MRHB-extracted "Ecstasy")
2) he got arrested for Mimosa and similar ingredients
3) these are not illegal until they are used I thought?
4) Ecstasy? Really? So retarded.
