Hi guys, you don't know me, but I've been reading various threads on here for years. You guys have answered countless questions and your stories have intrigued me. I really admire the compassion that I've seen some of you (Harry, rose, Dave, kikker and others) display towards people trying to kick opiate addiction. You guys should really be proud of yourselves. I think the world of some of you because of your willingness to devote your time to help someone you've never met. Well you've never met me so here's what's been going on...

About 5 yrs ago I got hooked on Percs after a foot surgery then went to those blue 30 Oxys after a couple years. 3 yrs ago I met my fiancé and got her hooked. We got up to about 90mg each 8 months ago. Mostly snorting and eating sometimes smoking. Sometimes 120mg each per day funds permitting. 8 months ago they stopped becoming available and the girl who I was getting them from offered some black tar H instead. Been smoking that every day since. Not too long I know on the H, but we've been burning up about $120 a day and recently when I run out we get sick to the point where it feels like if we don't get to the hospital we'll die. Dramatic I know, but lately it's been horrific with the vomiting, panic attacks, RLS, sweating, etc. No fun.

So after a particularly nasty round of WDs Monday night we decided to go for clean. We got about 120 strips of 8mg suboxone from a doctor from a while ago. Now it's been about exactly 96hrs (4days) since my last hit off foil and so far so good. First day sucked bad, took like 16mg of sub which I know is way too much but I was hell bent on feeling ok and it finally worked. Day 2 I let that mega dose from day one carry me till night then I took 8 so I could sleep. Felt ok day two. Took 2 walks and a jog and ate well. Slept well too. Day 3 yesterday - felt strong. Went to work, got home did some exercise, and ate and slept well. Only took about 6mg of sub. Today day 4 I'm feeling a little week but ok. I took about 2mg this morning at 7 am and now it's 5pm and I'm still feeling fine.

So yeah, I'm taking this sub like a moron- way too much up front and tapering too fast but I want off altogether. I'm going to stop the sub completely now and only take some if I get clobbered with terrible PHYSICAL withdrawals. Anything mental I'm going to deal with. So yeah, phew! That was a lot to type from my phone on the train home from work!

Love you guys - for real I do!

Wish me strength

Joe

Good luck, man. You have a solid quick taper going. For me, days 5-7 post subs were the roughest. I tapered down to .25, but I started low and my habit was smaller. It sounds like you got this. It ain't gonna be easy, but you will get through it!

Taking a lot of Suboxone the first few days then dropping the dose dramatically when you start feeling better isn't a bad way to use it. Its pretty much what I end up doing, first day 8 mg, second 6 mg, third 4 mg, recently I've stayed stable at 4 mg/day, but if I wanted to I could cut it down. For me by the third day I am feeling pretty good.

It makes sense for the first dose to be the biggest since it is the one time you are dosing with nothing in you system from previous doses. Of course this isn't how doctors intend for their patients to take Suboxone, they want you to keep a steady dose and let the levels keep building in your system until you stabilize on a dose. My dr wants me to take 8 mg a day and I take 4, would take less but he tests the levels in my urine and I don't want them to be too far off. I imagine they do this for 2 reason, one is a benefit to the patient, which is keeping you at a high enough dose to eliminate cravings and make using pointless due to the blockade effect at high doses like +8 mg a day. The other is to benefit them, and its basically related to the other reason, they want to keep you coming in the office and giving them money.

I have to say I am jealous of you because I've been to 2 doctors and both make me go in for appointment once a week, though the current one says once our relationship builds it becomes less frequent. Not to mention other strings tied to the treatment that I could care less for. I wish I could find one to drop me 60 strips on a first appointment.

I will say there are reports of people using Suboxone like you have said, successfully I may add. Just getting through the bad parts and using it sparingly afterwards. You might be better setting up an actual taper, having a plan can set can help facilitate getting clean. You've been around this website so you can find hundreds of different tapers for suboxone, ones that range from 3 days to 3 months long. There are beliefs that a medium length taper is best for avoiding relapse, gives you time to re adjust to life before going back to complete sobriety. Other people will argue to use the Suboxone as long as you need it and no longer than that, like 1-2 weeks or even less. Others think maintenance is best, they can't handle life off opiates completely so staying on maintenance is necessary because they would relapse on street drugs without the Subs. Its all personal preference.

Hey good job l! Seems like you're doing it the right way!
I have been thru this situation atleast 50 times on my own unfortnqtley. I strongly urge you to give N.A. /aa or some kind of recovery based group/therqpy. Without it id have to say your chances are much less because one thing ive learned is that 'getting' clean is the easy part. 'Staying' clean is a real battle.especially when that pink cloud evaporates and the PaWS hits!!!thats been my undoing in the past and this time i plan on hittin some na mtngs.
Best of luck, tommorow i will begin yet another induction w/ subs and hopefully clonidine. I had 3 mths on subs clean from all other opis/coke ..copped some xanax and one thing lead to another an its been a fuckin 10 day binge, wish me luck aswell! We can do this !! :)

Anyway that works for you is a good way. There is no one way to take suboxone. If this is working for you then keep at it. Staying on the suboxone for the shortest period of time will only make it easier to come off. Keep tapering until you reach around .5 or .25mg's, then hop off. I find coming off bupe is much easier at the sub milligram doses.

It seems you're doing it very good, stay strong and don't forget to give your strength to your fiance too, as it seems you're the stronger one...
Well done man, i wish you all the good luck..:)
