Lexapro for Anxiety

been on lexapro 10 mgs for the past 3 months for anxiety. recently decided to stop it. i noticed that it kills your ambition to do imporatant things. i always work out n stay on a good diet and for the past couple months i have been fluffing it all off. its good for some things but bad for others. i went down to 5mgs for a couple days n then just stopped. no side effects at all.
 
paxil, and effexor, those are two antidepressants I wouldn't touch. I've been on Paxil, and let me tell you its probably just as bad as benzo withdrawal trying to come off the shit. Effexor I heard sucks big time when its time to come off as well, those AD's should be banned IMO. So far, Cipralex has been the cleanest. But the only other SSRI I've been on is Paxil which ruined my fuckin life. Fuck Paxil and Fuck GSK.
 
after just one day of taking lexapro im gonna stop. this crap made me feel wierd all day yesterday. I can actually feel the effects from the drug and it sucks. It makes me tired without actually putting me to sleep, because last night I had the worst insomnia ever. Not to mention after the drug took effect I became totally apathetic and confused mentally. I felt happier before I took the damn pill.

I don't even know what to do, anytime I tell a doctor i have trouble sleeping, and have anxiety they want to throw me on a damn SSRI. I'm done with them.
 
try taking the lexapro for a few weeks... the coming up on them is the only bad part.. i went through that too but now im glad i stuck it out and stayed on them
 
also try taking the lexapro early when you first get up to keep it from causing you sleeplessness, my psych told me that
 
i really wish i could get through it, cuz I want anxiety relief, but not if I'm gonna have 3 sleepless weeks rasing my anxiety higher and higher. i'll pass.
 
just keep taking it. it goes away. i took mine as soon as i woke up everyday. it works really good. you will feel great after the first week.
 
I'm guessing if I did give it a go, eventually it should be able to help with my anxiety issues. However, thats my only problem, anxiety. And, this lexapro crap is making me emotionally flatline and feel slightly more depressed.

I guess its just a bitch these days to get put on benzos. I hate the side effects of SSRI's. I'm done with them. They just aren't doing what I need them to do.

I'm not trying to knock anyone elses great experiences with lexapro. If it works for you, then I'm happy you've found some relief. But, for myself, I'm not finding those benefits. Quite the opposite actually. So, my 2 cents.....
 
I find most benzo's make me feel depressed as well. The only thing that truly brings me out of depression is GHB. Lexapro doesn't really help me depression either, I still get VERY angry. I've been on it almost for 1 month, and about 3 and a half weeks at 10mg the other 6 days on 5mg. Its Cipralex here in Canada but same drug (Escitalopram). I find it to be a much cleaner drug than Paxil though with a lot less side effects, and Paxil was a bitch to get off. So far Cipralex or (Lexapro) has not improved my depression, but it has brought my anxiety levels down a notch or two. I will give it some more time. But as far as I'm concerned SSRI's don't really help too much, just anxiety part for me. The antidepression and social anxiety is all taken care with a good 2-3 gram dose of GHB for me. Benzo's just make me more depressed too, especially Valium.
 
I won't go back on Paxil though, thats for sure. It turned me into a maniac and made my depression worse. If Lexapro doesn't work out for me, well then I think I'm done with the SSRI route and we'll maybe try Remeron or something, not sure though. I just basically need something for Anxiety, so far Lexapro seems to be doing the trick fairly well. We'll see what happens down the road though.

the doctor scripted me 10mg/day. I was having a weeks worth of insomnia issues due to opiate withdrawl, and i took 5mg at 1PM, and another 5mg at 7PM. It just wasn't making me feel that great the first day. The second day (yesterday) I didn't take any, and I felt great, and I finally got 8 hrs of sleep!!! Today I woke up and took 5mg, and I feel alright. I'm gonna stay on 5mg this week and then jump up to 10mg next week. I definately feel like my social anxiety has gone down somewhat. Hopefully I see the full benefits over the next few weeks.

It's like you have to come in there all "I'm dying, I shake and faint and can't walk out of my door and hear voices and choke on my spit and see black spots from lack of oxygen whenever I see anyone within 5 feet of me I have to stay home from work and school vomiting" to get them.
 
i hate lexapro along with all AD's i have tried so many. lexapro is meant to have less side effects, i thought it was just as bad maybe worse than zoloft.
they say its good 4 anxiety but they are designed for depression?? if u have anxiety why are the dr's so against the anxiety drugs?

i mean AD's change u forever, they change your brain. i never been the same after i used effexor for 6 months i was addicted to it badly, but they say u cannot be addicted. WTF? the WORST withdrawl of my life coming off that.. compared to withdrawing from a heavy meth addiction and a benzo addiction (at the same time) that got out of control...but not as bad as effexor.

my dr is scared i will be addicted to my benzo's, to be honest i wouldnt want to be without them,but does that mean im addicted or just that they are doing me a lot of good? i am careful not to overdo it i use them exactly like he tells me to, i could be wrong, doesnt do any long term damage?? i dont think that benzo's will permantly change u the way that AD's can, that was scary...

i would rather be addicted to benzos than smoking or alcohol or any other drugs including AD's.
 
The reason doctors are more willing to push SSRI's than benzos for anxiety is abuse potential. I can't take several lexapro tabs and get sloshed as opposed to taking a few k-pins or bars. They might both be addictive substances, but theres far less a chance of people overdoing it on anti-D's than benzos.

But in reality it really does suck because AD's really don't do a whole lot for my anxiety at all. I feel like the lexapro I've been taking has been beneficial in some ways, but its still really not doing jack shit for my anxiety.

I don't think it's all that great, and all the same side effects are still there like when I was on Paxil. But Paxil turned me into a maniac and is hell trying to come off. I think Benzo's and AD's are equally probably the same in terms of withdrawal. Lexapro isn't much different than Paxil as far as I'm concerned in my books.

Lexapro is more commonly prescribed here in the US for anxiety than for depression, and is usually prescribed in combination with a benzodiazepine such as Ativan or Xanax.
