Prosecutor Gerrie Nel told the court that in the early hours of the morning of 14 February, Mr Pistorius - a double amputee - had got up from bed, put on his prostheses, and fired his pistol through the locked door of the bathroom.

He shot four times and hit Ms Steenkamp three times, Mr Nel said.

He added that the defendant later broke down the bathroom door with a cricket bat and carried the body downstairs.

According to the statement, Mr Pistorius thought Ms Steenkamp was still in bed, and he fired through the bathroom door, believing he was shooting at a robber.

When he realised Ms Steenkamp was not in the bed, "it filled me with horror and fear", it said.

Mr Pistorius broke the door down to find his girlfriend shot inside.

"She died in my arms," the statement said. "I am absolutely mortified at the death of my beloved Reeva".

He smashed through the bullet-battered door with a cricket bat then carried his entirely accidentally shot (multiple times) girlfriend downstairs rather than call an ambulance or owt... Ya. Classic case of accidental shooting. Just saves time - should've just buried her under the patio of summat to avoid annoying the emergency services and funeral directors and that really. Is the only real option in that situation.

Apparantly the bathroom has a door - he opened that, saw the window open, then noticed the second door to the shithole was locked and the idea that a burglar was locked in the bog (probably dropping a loaf) filled him with such horror he emptied his clip through the door and into their fucking ear.

But he had time to put on his set of legs, however long that took without even glancing over the bed, then going to the bathroom and with the door closed, not even saying or shouting "honey, you taking a crap" or something along them lines, instead of shooting through the door, bashing it in with a bat then dragging her body downstairs.
