Legless Man Kills Girlfriend.

I'm fine with gambling in general, but betting on the outcome of a criminal case just feels wrong. Not only does it trivialise the unpleasant experiences of all those involved -- real human beings, with feelings -- by reducing them to the level of a race, a fight, basically a form of entertainment; but also in an icky sort of tampering with evidence / intimidating witnesses / perjury under oath / perverting the course of justice / contempt of court kind of way.

Dons deerstalker hat and peers through oversized magnifying glass The fact that Oscar Pistorius managed to get out of bed and strap on his prosthetics without noticing that his partner was not there with him suggests that things between the couple were perhaps not as intimate as Pistorius would have us believe -- clearly they were sleeping in separate beds. Pauses to drag on pipe This is given further weight by the bathroom door being locked. Who locks the bathroom door in a house they share only with the very person they don't mind seeing them naked? He heard no voice except hers coming through the door.

Costume changes to wig and robes of a barrister Ladies and Gentlemen of the EADD Jury, I invite you to consider the evidence before you. This man -- this self-confessed control freak; discipline may be a fine quality and indeed a necessary one for an Olympic athlete, though it becomes poisonous when it extends to unrealistic expectations of others -- whose girlfriend no longer loves him, but now lives in mortal fear of him, takes advantage of the situation which presents itself to him. Suspecting that Ms Steenkamp is alone inside the bathroom, cowering in terror of her life -- the autopsy will later reveal, she has literally wet herself through fear -- Pistorius fires a series of shots at the locked door. He cannot see what is behind the door; nor does he know how passing through the material of the door will affect the trajectory of the bullets. In short, he can have no idea where they will end up.

Your honour, my learned friends, members of the jury, these are the facts as they have been presented to this court and it is now time for you to decide whether or not they are sufficient to establish beyond reasonable doubt whether this man is guilty of murder. Curtseys, sips water, tidies papers and sits down

12 Years A Slave - Oscar winner

12 years in prison - Oscar Pistorius

I heard he changed his religion. Shinto didn't seem to be working out for him any more.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/mar/04/paddy-power-oscar-pistorius-ad-petition-complaints

Paddy Power's controversial ad campaign featuring Oscar Pistorius, which offers "money back if he walks", is to be investigated by the UK's advertising watchdog after receiving nearly 50 complaints.

The adverts, which offer refunds for losing bets if the South African Paralympian is found not guilty of the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, has been criticised for being in bad taste.

The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) received 46 complaints in two days and has now decided to launch a formal investigation.

The investigation will centre on whether Paddy Power breached advertising rules around causing offence.

The print advertising campaign shows the head of Pistorius superimposed on a statue of an Oscar award. Next to it, the ad states "It's Oscar Time. Money back if he walks. We will refund all losing bets on the Oscar Pistorius trial if he is found not guilty."

That really is in appalling taste. Although given the quality and exposure of the pun I might be tempted to give 'em the benefit of the doubt.

As for whether he'll get off? About as much chance as he has of winning an arse-kicking contest.

I <3 this thread. I like the way all the bods around him shout 2make way make way" when he's coming through like he's the boss or something.

Indeed, no such thing as bad publicity. I'd say any betting on murder trils is in poor taste reagardless of any bad puns.

I had a feeling mine had already been used but seeing everyones reposting crap jokes, I thought I'd join in.

I am very pissed of, depressed & angry. So this thread is a lovely place to hang out!

I thought he was guilty right from the start, & at first I felt awful for Pistorious, even if he killed Steenkamp during some violent Valentines day rage. But now I'm beginning to hate him. If he killed her in a crime of passion he should stand the fuck up, face what he's done & be willing to pay the consequences. Seems to me within five minutes of blowing that poor girls brains out, he's thinking about how he can get away with it. He knows he's got the money & power behind him to fight his way out of this, & I for one think his whole story stinks! Yes, I'm sure he feels awful about it, & he's gonna live with it the rest of his life. But ultimately, he'll feel alot less awful if he TOLD THE TRUTH.

Fat chance!
