Legality of poppies in the UK

It wasn't until my dad gave me a bag of seeds from some he'd grown that I started getting results.

I've not grown any this year because I don't want to risk slipping back into a habit, but 10 - 12g of dried material would usually have me nodding out most of the night. It's not what you'd call subtle, but probably not as enjoyable as you would expect. It lacks the warmth of heroin or even opium - possibly due to the multitude of other active alkaloids in the mix.

there's only really one other online florist that sells Somniferum heads at a reasonable price. I tried them once but don't think I got much from them. You can probably buy them from ebay too but who knows what the opium content is. I do boil the grinds for a couple of minutes before steeping - which some say you shouldn't do

when you were using Pod tea, what was your brewing method?

Boiling them might be the issue, its all highly water soluble so would work with cold water too, heat just speeds up dissolution. But boiling isn't needed.
It could also be, most likely too, that they're either low quality or a low potency variety to begin with. A lot of dried flower retailers use big kilns to dry them, the prolonged heat could definitely damage the potency. Or if they were collected after they dried naturally on the plant the weather leading up to harvest could also cause a big drop in potency. Rain being the leading factor affecting potency when grown in the UK. Lots of rain before harvest=low potency.

I boil them beacuse if you think about where they come from, boiling might kill off any pathogens/mould etc that you wouldn't want to consume. I've also had it pointed out to me that opium can be effectively smoked which means it reaches a much higher temperature than 100C.

but yes it is possibe that - boiling or not - the dried pods you get from these retailers may have negligble opium content anyway, which it why they don't really work in my experience anyway
 
I knew a poppy connoisseur who swore eating them raw like apples was the best way.
 
Oh my goodness gracious! Are we still going for poppy pods? I went from soup to nuts - drinking the tea, to getting a specialised "coffee" machine that "extracted" all the goodness. My eyes were bright and my coat was glossy..but after you've done it once or twice isn't it simpler to get heroin?

The times I spent breaking up those pods - jesus wept...and all the sage advice you get about it "yes, those are the pods where the goat-herder collecting them hadn't changed his sandals for a fortnight..a righteously mellow smoke..."

Heh, poppy pods are either for noobs or reformed junkies like myself who daren't take anything stronger...

what effects did pod tea give you? Did you grow them yourself or buy them?
 
I used to buy the poppies. It is a beautiful high if it works - there's a really sweet feeling of "the eternal now" that I still remember (it's been 10 years since I last did them). Heroin never gave me that feeling..well it did give me the same feeling..it might be because poppy tea was the first opiate high I ever felt. It also takes over your dreams in a way heroin doesn't - a strange half-asleep state that is absolutely gorgeous. It's a full weekend drug - take it saturday afternoon and you'd get the high, then the strange half-waking state, then sunday you need to catnap all day.

I used to find it worked great one weekend, then the next weekend you'd take the same dose and nothing happened. I could never understand it - the poppies i were getting were from the "plucked fresh in turkey" guy (they came with an imprint of the goatherders sandals..."for quality"...).

I tried the "opium" you find on the darknet but it was bullshit- just dried poppy pod tea - so I'd always go for good poppy pods if you want to chase it down. Now you can get the occasional taste of heroin on the darknet I tend to go with that. But it's a lovely high - i miss it.

ps i still remember chuckling to myself that i'd found a legal way of getting to feel like errol flynn with his girl Ting Ling in wicked ways - i bought a lot of shite poppy pods - going round all the craft shops ordering "300 poppies please". Oh and the fucking pompous fucks you find on poppy forums are the absolute worst arseholes that ever drew breath.

Yeah it was my first opiate high - still remember the first time it worked. I found mushrooms helped more with really severe depression but opium was a beautiful mood-enhancer, when you're high all your worries are gone. ("All your problems will still be there when you come down you know" "Yeah my problems are always there but at least i felt good for a few hours")

Hello fubar - I remember you from the old days nice to see you still around.

I've tried Pod tea a number of times but never seem to feel any nice effects (just some nasty side effects the next day)

as I mentioned above I get them from

do you know if these are viable or useless? Some P. Somniferums have been bred to have the opium content removed or minimised

As for my method, I grind them down to a powder, boil the powder in a saucepan for a couple of minutes, add some lemon juice and then let it steep for 20 minutes or so and strain out the grinds so I just have the liquid tea to drink

Yeah it's hit and miss - when it works it's great but i could only get it to work 1 time out of 20. There used to be a guy with a big union jack on the page "good news from our goatherder in Turkey..". I forget what they were called- something like "Istanbul thunderfuck" - "don't take more than two!!" and i was taking 50 at time.

I used to try the craft shop ones - i dunno if they were active or not. They used to say "whatever you do don't take more than 10..you absolutely musn't take more than 10!!...oh stop it will you!!" and I was taking 100 at a time and still feeling nothing. And that's when i'd never had opiates in my life.

I had a moment of clarity after i'd spent the weekend cooking the pods and drinking it - the fucking seeds were all over the floor and i was still sober as a judge and i thought "if this is the only way i can get high then shoot yourself cos it's not gonna get any better"

No never tried the seeds - that would be even more tedious than the pods.

Just looked for my source - he used to be the first thing that came up when you typed in "poppypods uk" but he's vanished. ISIS must have shot him when he was out inspecting his crop.
