^ Nice Ruger, bmxxx. In my military days, I shot/trained with .45 and 9mm guns so when I got out, I found .40 to be a nice go between.
He spoke of our local boar as if they were true beasts, adn when i asked about guns, the way he responded implied it was a personal (not legal) choice amongst him/his family not to bring guns; you hunt the boar w/ traps and are protected w/ knives.
Last year I took and 8 point with my muzzle loader...not very big when you are talking about rack size but it dressed out at 270lbs. I would like to hunt moose in alaska or canada....1500lds!!!
in FL anything over 100lbs in considered big. the colder the temp, the bigger the deer. a 270lbs deer in parts of canada is mid-sized
they are turely the most ferocious game in the eastern US and you could argue for the #1 spot all over the US. only thing that might be able to hold a candel to them is coastal brown bear or the polar bear IMO. they can't see particularly well but can smell better than any animal alive. they can run very fast, are powerfull, and will explosively attack when cornered. the bite wounds people and dogs get from then are horrific!...I am not sure if I would have the stones to go after one without at least a large caliber handgun strapped to my side.
