KiiiiiiIIIII HAP! -- what do you do to gather your qi / get in the zone?

I just hum an "om" or "noi" or just "am", something with that general vowel sound. I do it for as long as I can, several times, that always brings me in focus or back in a relaxed and refreshed mode.

And I can do it anytime-- beneath the buzz of city sounds while walking, while I am at risk of losing my temper. It brings me back to the times on psychedelics when I surrender control and am enveloped by the sound. Or times in intense nature. It's a good reminder.

^For some reason I have never been too good at chanting or humming. I totally believe in it's power too. I just feel really awkward trying to do it. It's hard to hold it out and then I always run out of breath and take a really deep gasping breath at the end. I think I'm trying to hold it too long. lol

Speaking of music, I've been thinking of picking up a copy of the Rocky soundtrack, very motivational.

music can be very motivating and is excellent for physical training. but preparing for anything mental, it's distracting.

Really? I find music without lyrics can go great with studying. Sometimes some minimalist / ambient / drone music can actually hold my mood in just the right place for long sessions of reading.

i need silence. when concentrating, if i hear so much as fly fapping, i destroy planets.
lucky i can shut out most distractions quite well.

Agreed. saying Ki-ai in the vocal tone is pretty impressive. I wonder if it could be an artifact/relic expression from a fabled tonal language.
