I've been wanting to kick my opiate habit for a while now. It's getting out of control and im burning through cash way to fast. I've contacted some methadone/suboxone clinics but didn't get a response and I don't know how much that would cost and I'm on my parents healthcare and I don't want them finding out.
I might have access to a lot of tramadol, and I was wondering if it could be used in the same manner as subs or done. I've been doing around 150-240mg of oxy a day, and usually 2-4 bags of heroin. Has anyone tried to kick a habit by using tramadol? Or can anyone give me advice or point me in the right direction?

ok, i just found a connect where i can get 8mg suboxone strips. How many would i need/how much do i take at a given time?

just go to a doctor who prescribes suboxone. The doctor can and has to share SOME info with the insurance, but unless you are a minor or sign a waiver, there is no way that information about your health and treatment can be shared with ANYONE ELSE.

most people on suboxone/ subutex find that low-dose (1-2mg) is a better option for them and just as effective as high-dose (up to 32mg/day). You have a pretty high tolerance so you might want to try around 4mg and go from there.
I cannot encourage you enough to go see a doctor for this issue. If you REALLY want to clean up, there is nothing like the support of a licensed physician or psychiatrist, and things like testing for blood-borne infections and information on harm reduction and staying clean will be included in your treatment.
If you have insurance, use it, it's there to ensure your health and safety.

and yes Tramadol CAN be used although at 400mg/ day max (any more and you risk siezures) it would be ill-suited to a habit as large as yours. I would say that, at max, it can take the place of maybe 60mg of oxy, and that would be pushing it, plus it has its own weird W/D's.

ok thanks alot for the information. I am going to start calling doctors in my area, but in the meantime i think i might pick up one of these strips and try to use it for at least 2 days. 20 bucks for two days is much better than the ~$200 i spend a day on oxy/dope.

I am also an opiate addict, though not as severe. Tramadols are very psychologically addictive, that is if you're going for the tramadol high (which is very pleasant). by "kicking the opiate habit" you mean detoxing/not having horrible withdraw symptoms? tramadol can help, but take low doses (100mg, 150mg max) so you don't get the tramadol high. discovering the tramadol high may end up fucking you over big time, it is VERY easy to get a tramadol high even for an opiate addict due to the fact that it is an opiate-synthetic, therefore your jacked-up opiate tolerance will not affect tramadol tolerance at all. just be careful with tramadol, it has its demonic side as well.

I find most people avoid this route as they don't want to be subjected to UA

tramadol may help alittle thats what i use for oxy withdrawls but im only at 60 mg of oxy a day so i ahve to take 12 50 mg tramadol to even feel a little better. plus when u run out of tramadol and u used to taking 12 a day. thw withdrawls are horrible you cant sleep, nauseau and restless legs with bad anxiety and depression... your best bet is methadone with a habit like that.. methadone is great. works wonders.

dude, that's 600mg of Tramadol a day. If you keep using every day you are seriously risking a seizure.

Alot of Bupe doctors don't require UA's, and what the fuck are you worrying about UA's for if you are trying to clean up? Opiate addiction doesn't happen alone, it's usually one aspect of poly-substance abuse.

This entire post is full of bad information.

Tramadol is physically and psychologically addictive.

Yes, Tramadol can help ease w/d symptoms, but for a habit like yours it will not completely take them away.

You will not get high on Tramadol with a tolerance like yours..

Fever2010, just because it's a synthetic opioid doesn't mean that it'll get you high.. Oxycodone is also a synthetic opiod. It doesn't act differently on the receptors because it's 'synthetic'.. the only thing different between the effects of Tramadol and other opiates is that Tramadol is also an SNRI.

Your 'jacked-up' tolerance WILL effect your tolerance to Tramadol. It's called cross-tolerance and it occurs between all opiates.

Its not going to do much with a habit as large as the OP's.
The best thing you can do is go to a Doctor- It will be less expensive in the long run and , as stated in one of the above post, very helpful to have the care/advice of a professional.
If that isnt possible ( which I dont seem to understand why, its alot easier than you may think) I would buy a shitload of bupe from the street and try to do it yourself.
Their are many, many helpful threads in BL about using suboxone with great suggestions on usage and tapering

Good luck op

^^ this.....

ya with your habit, tram wont do much.......and i have found it has worse stomach pains in WD than most other opiates

regardless of whether you think the best choice for the OP is to go see a doctor, that's not what he asked about, and i don't think we should try to pressure him into doing that.

1. you can use tramadol to get off your dope/oxy habit. you will need to-and i would definitely try to- taper down a fair amount first, which you can do pretty quickly on those drugs and then switch over at some point when you're pretty low. i did this once before when i was doing b/t 100-160mg/day oxy, and within a week i had that way down and switched over to darvocet for a few days, experienced no (zero) withdrawal. i don't know how common that experience is, but i assure you i had been doing at least 100mg/day every day for over a year, and i was totally done in 2 weeks with no withdrawal. i'm not saying you won't relapse that way or that you'll be permanently cured, but you can get through the w/d part without any real discomfort if you put forth the effort, and i know that i was able to do it. granted, i got bored and relapsed a few weeks later, but from a strictly physical perspective, this can happen.

2. also, those suboxone strips can get you off opiates without having to go through the whole maintenance treatment stuff if you don't want to, although it is often advisable for mainaining long-term sobriety. when you start experiencing withdrawal, take like 1-2 mg of that strip and wait a few hours. hopefully that will be ebough to prevent anything serious, but feel free to up it by a mg or so if your life still sucks. 24-36 hours later, take like another 1 or 2 mg, 24-36 hours later take half that, 24-36 hours later, half that, etc. Or do a search on quickly tapering off opiates with suboxone. There are 2 (competing) things to keep in mind when trying to quickly taper off opiates with suboxone: 1) the longer you stay on a very low dose of suboxone (e.g. .25mg), the less severe w/d will be, and 2) the longer you stay on suboxone, the more severe w/d from suboxone will be. i'm not quite sure how to effectively balance these competing interests, but if you just take as small amount as possible as infrequently as possible and keep tapering lower, you should be able to taper off drugs without too many complications.

****i'm not getting into psychological stuff here, only physical.

^ probably for the best, we can't diagnose anyone with anything here......

wrong word.....we cant speculate on mental issues here. especially with out more info.

if this talk about mental issues/diagnoses is in response to my above post where i said something about my discussion being limited to physical not psychological issues, i only meant that what i wrote could help the OP minimize physical withdrawal and i wasn't trying to comment on the psychological aspect of stopping opiate usage (e.g., PAWS, depression, etc.)

we understand that...

however, i can say with almost perfect accuracy that the OP will suffer from some sort of mental downside to getting clean...

your receptors are all fucked up.....

try and come up with a plan.... meetings....a counselling program...something to reinforce sobriety, when your there.....

oh yeah, mental downside to be expected for sure. a long, slow taper w/ sub or even using those tramadol pills could probably help minimize this, but there are about a zillion helpful things you can do to help with the mental aspects. many many threads on this type of thing...

ex. start excercizing, eat better, take up hobbies, throw yourself more into work/school, see a counselor, get a support group, have a dr prescribe you something for it like an ssri or something- all healthy type things that will help with mental aspects of drug cessation.

on the less healthy side: get more into drinking/other drugs, take uppers to overcome the extreme lethargy/depression you may experience, etc.

whether you substitute alcohol or exercize, substituting different activities can help you get past your opiate addiction. BUT, there's a lot more to this, and OP can find lots of resources on this site--and it may be in his best interest to see a dr if he really wants to get and stay clean--but i just wanted to chime in and tell him that he can get through physical withdrawal with the medicines he has at his disposal.
