Kicking Methadone Clinic

Switching to Bupe

Ive been on MMT for four years, have been as high as 120, but came down to 60 about a year ago. Recently I had problems at the clinic and they detoxed me from the program at 5mg every two days. I believed that when I reached 30, it would be low enought to take suboxone, but the day after I took 25 I tried taking 2mg at first and my god was I SICK! I kept going to the clininc until I was down to 10 mg, and switched to heroin for a few days to let the methadone get out of my system. Now I've been taking Bupe 2mg at a time, and have averaged around 24 a day. I still think I should have waited a little longer cuz meth stays in your system so long. I've done bupe 12 hours after heroin and it was like magic. Regardless, coming off methadone is uncomfortable no matter how you do it.

But beware of taking suboxone too soon, it will make you sicker than you already are when coming off methadone.

i went down to 5 mg and then walked. it was horrible. i had various w/d for 2 months. this is coming from a person who has kicked H many times and even a very small methadone habit is worse to kick than H. i would go down as low as possible even to 1/2 a mg. and then get some more and take like a sip every day for weeks and then wean yourself down to finally a drop and then do a drop every other day and then every 2 days, etc. until you are off.
hope this helps

It's trading one habbit for another...I quit a large oxycodone addiction cold turkey. I have lost 5 GOOD friends in 2 months and am a strong individual, but that drug w/d was for sure one of the hardest things i've ever been through hands down.

These little meth/bupe programs are just the govertments way to sell drugs. Your still dependent on a drug its just legal

Maybe you are right, but if that is what it takes for any opiate addict to stop using, then let the Government sell me drugs. Have you ever been on a methadone program, or suboxone program? If it wernt for methadone, I would most likely be in prison or dead, so Thank God for the Governments greed8)

I totally agree with people on this subject, methadone has been the worst opioid I've been on in my life and will never look back once and if I can kick this shit and get back on bupe or getting high again on good H or something, anything but methadone. It sure has not saved my life, it slowly turned me into a ambitionless, depressed, suicidal ideation, just want to sleep zombie most of the day and go to bed at 8pm!

Hell when I was on bupe, I'd wake up around 10:30 am or 11 and take my first sub and feel good and get stuff done and I never remember getting dead tired around 1pm or so and napping all day until suppertime and then going back to bed around 8pm. I felt better all day and rarely napped and when I ate supper I would stay up until midnite most nights.

I'm doing everything I can right now to find a way to get a hold of short acting opiates like oxy or my old favorite, hydro 10/500, however when I look at the pharms on drugbuyers I'm afraid if I order I'll get busted because the best of the best have all been shut down. I'm not in any way trying to solicitate, but has anyone here had any luck with the rop's and not overseas pharms lately?I'm afraid to test the waters until I get an opinion or hear from someone's recent online experience. I was currently looking at one that sounded almost like nww, just like them, this rop currently is offering 120 10/500 for only a little over $120, plus the doctor consult fee, trouble is now I dont have easy access to current med records. If anyone want to give me any input please pm me. I want off this damn done asap.

Let me get this right, you would rather buy H, or buy hydro or oxy's illegally on an OP that be on done? Well, I wont tell you how to get loaded, but I can tell you that if you feel the way you do on done, then you are on too high of a dose. Why did you quit taking the sub if it made you feel fine? The only thing I can tell you is, you can get off of methadone anytime you like, but if you are on a high dose and think by taking a short acting opiate in its place, think again. If you want off so bad, taper slowly and then get back on sub, or if you still want to use H, or any other opiate, then why did you even get on a clinic? I would say that spending $120.00 for a bottle of 5/500 vicodin is going to be a big loss for two reasons, first being, vicodin will not even touch methadone WD's, and you can get a prescription for less than $30.00. The other thing is, if you are on a methadone program, then you know you are addicted to opiates, do you really want to go back down that road again? If you truly want to be free from opiates taper, get on sub, then taper from that. I know I am being a bitch here, but I have been doing this shit for 30 years. I woke up one day and I was 45 years old, and didnt have shit. I wouldn't wish this fucking shit on my worst enemy..If you are young, walk away from the fucking nightmare..Belive me, I am no NA person, I am just an old dope fiend who doesnt want to see young people go through all of the shit every other person I know did (Including me) I am sorry that methadone makes you feel so useless,it does the compleat opppisate for me. I sleep great, I dont even have to nap anymore, and I can live the way people are supposed to live..I am not a saint, I still party, but I put the heroin down in July 2002. No veins, Hep C..It's a bitch out there today....

god i've been trying to kick my methadone program for three months. fuckers won't let go of me (it's all me)

Where do you live that the clinic wont let you off?? You cant get off of methadone in 3 months. If you want off, they wont stop you..At least in the US. They just wont let you go down on your dose to where you will be sick.. Tell the doctor you want to get on a taper schedule..If they say no, then get a hold of the head of Methadone programs in your State and tell them.

What did you lose your 5 best friends to? I dont understand what your point is. I have lost over 20 friends but not one to being on a methadone clinic. BTW, it is not trading one habit for another that is just your opinion. What does Oxycodone have to do with the posters getting off of methadone anyway? I am just glad for anyone who has the courage to do it. Methadone IMO is a last resort. I tried everything, and didnt get on maintenance till I was in my 40's..Anyone who can kick any opiate and stay opiate free is a hero to me..

Tell them you want off. They'll slowly wean you. Once you get under 70 or so mg's per day, the decrease is much more gradual. At that point, and especially at the point you're at, it's not just a physical thing; the psychological aspect of "being opiate free" plays a major factor IMO.

If I were you at 20mg's per day, I'd drop no more than 2mg's per week. And probably 1mg after you're at 10mg or so.

Good luck.
You are 100% correct...For me it was all mental. I acually was clean from everything for a long time, but that voice in my head won out. The taper schedule is usually how it is done. My friends who have gotten off of methadone have done it just like you said, and some of them have 10+ years clean from all opiates..

Now down to 5mg a day. No real "struggles" worst time was from 15 to 10mg and that was just the little done I was getting only held for 8 hours and then the runny nose and chills started. Have never had the god forsaken leg syndrome, yet or the lethargy.

I did skip my dose for the last 72 hours and did OK, so I am not nearly as apprehensive as I once was. My insurance covers my dose now, but my time is about up and I am not paying $95 a week for 5mg of 'done!

My last 2 detoxes were off of 80 and 120mg and I did in a hospital setting. I think a lot of it is mental state. I am just tired of how degrading going to a clinic is and being treated like a two year old.

Since my veins are all blown out from 34 years of gunning drugs, I can't even think about going back to any IV abuse. I am going to give it the good fight this time off!!

Hi Friend

You are at a very important time here, and I for one am happy that you are getting off. Be very careful, please talk to the clinic doctor, maybe he/she can give you something to ease your WD's when you go down to zero. You probably dont want to hear this, but everyone I know who has sucssfully gotton off methadone didnt jump off at 10, 5, or even 1mg, they did it all the way. I know the $95.00 is a pain in the ass,:X but it is better than suffering. My ex went all the way to zero in Jan 1997, and has been opiate free ever since. His clinic doctor gave him a few librium to help him sleep, a some vicodin, but we both know the vicodin is useless. He didnt even fill the prescrition for the vicodin. He said that he was uncomfortable for about 2 weeks, and then he caught his first cold in 30 years LOL. If you find that you cant hack it, have you thought of trying suboxone? Don't think I am telling you what to do, I am just wanting you to do this, but I dont want to see you suffer, and today there is no reason to suffer. I am a few years older than you are, so I understand the blown out veins, knowing you cant geeze anymore (and not even wanting too) Shit, the smell alone makes me sick.I had to throw out 3 guests in our home because they brought heroin in. I am so sorry that you have a bad experience at your clinic, the one I go to is one in a million. I dont know what State you are from, but I know some state laws are horrible.. Hey, if you want to talk to someone who knows what you are going through PM me anytime, I check in a few times a day..Good luck in your journey

Can't PM as I am still a newbie here. I am 51, so been at this for quite awhile, but by no means have all the answers.

I totally understanding and appreciative of where you are coming from.

I have gotten off done 2X before, but did those in a hospital setting. I tired 3 years ago to jump off of 30mg and go on Suboxone. BIG mistake!!! They tell the docs that is the "sweet spot" to go from 'done to sub, but all it did was make me RUN back to the clinic. I was so sick. I still have a bottle of 15 8mg subs left, so if I need one I will try a half and see if it helps. If I need more the doc is 2 doors down.

I do notice now at this low dose I am very lethargic and people close to me are asking me what is wrong with me. Staying on that crap for so long ruins your system, but clinics in PA are just a pain to deal with. I see people drink their 200mg dose and just think, whoa, I am glad I am not in that situation, but a jones is a jones is a jones!!

I do have a stash of Xannies for bedtime and if needed will pop the subs and get more if needed as I hear they are easier to kick short term.

Thanks again for the advice!!

Stay strong
If you are on a meth program and are not doing any other opiates, go down real slow
but go down
2mg a week and you will not feel any different.
The end is a little tricky, misrly our brain saying 'feed me'
do not listen
peace

Is anyone here on methadone for pain?

I just got on it recently for chronic pain and the stuff I'm reading about it here has me terrified. I mean really freaked out now.
It's only been about 6 or so weeks, do you think I'll have a problem stopping?

After the first week I was taking about 80 mgs, and then after about 3 weeks I went down to about 10 and felt the same, no difference really. Now I'm on about 30-50mg a day for the last few weeks. I didn't think it would be that much of a problem just to switch meds, but now this 5 mg limit is scaring me. It seems like tapering down isn't so bad, but just completely stopping is a nightmare, and getting under 5 mg is real tough.

I know I'm not in the same boat as most of you because I'm new to it, but I have a strong feeling you are all going to tell me to stop ASAP and never go back. But I must say, it does work for pain, but I'm sure I can find something safer that's at least nearly as effective if not equally or better. What are the disadvantages of Mdone compared to the more common strong, long acting pain meds (other than not being able to get off of them, which is obviously the scariest part for me)?

Listen, the horror stories you are eharing are just that, STORIES. Methadone has a very difficult profile because of its super high receptor affinity. This is what mkes its physical W/D so long, and it is LONG. However, it is also VERY MILD. I wish the Journals were restored because I documented one of my Cold Turkey W/Ds from a VERY high dose after years of continuous usage. It is not bad at all. As I have said, I was able to skin and butcher a cow and calf about 4 days into it and I could not imagine doing that at 1.5 days in heroin W/D (which is the equivalent timewise).

The Journal was so valuable because a few months after that I went through a Cold Turkey morphine W/D and that was hell in comparison, to the point of hospitlisation because of the physical effects (I had been an opiate/opioid addict heavily for 24 years at that point). Methadone is a walk in the park.

I am not so sure it should even be prescribed for pain because of the super long duration. The analgesia is not asting 72 hours, and yet the substance can be present for that long (always 48 hours with regular usage). Ergo, take a dosage, and then redose 12 hours later as you might be used to doing with extended release analgesics (Contins) and voila, overdose. Always follow your Medical Provider's instructions, but do not be afraid to ask those questions. It is your life after all. However, do not be afraid fo the W/D.

Anyone that tells you to run from it does not know what they are talking about and while that will insult a few people, it is entirely true. The actual issue is its utilisation in Chronic Pain, but right or wrong it is what it is and you are on it so do not let Old Wives' Tales scare you from what maybe a neccessary medication.

"Have never had the god forsaken leg syndrome" -Erowid

Wait, are you talking about Restless Leg Syndrome? Have you heard a lot of people talk about having RLS symptoms when withdrawing from methadone?

I ask because I stopped taking methadone after a few weeks of starting, and I felt totally fine, I had other very weak opiates to sustain me, and I was fine.
But after about a day and a half or two days of the last dose I woke up and had the worst Restless Legs ever.
I had no idea at the time why, but I actually have RLS normally, so I figured it was just a bad episode.

About an hour after I woke up it became the most horrible feeling I've ever had. It was so intense and uncomfortable. It became absolutely horrific, and worse than any pain I've ever felt. Pain would have been so much better because relieving pain is simple, but I had no idea what to do in my situation.

I was literally screaming and nothing I did helped. I finally went to the emergency room and I looked like I was crazy while I was there, running around moaning really loudly.
I figured they could give me a stronger painkiller, because that's the only thing that's ever gotten rid of my RLS. It worked enough so that I wasn't freaking out anymore, but the restlessness continued all day, at least 15 hours.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? What can be done to relieve it?
I figure the fact that I have RLS already is what makes it so horrible.
But this was literally the worst experience of my life, and I can't ever let this happen again. Any similar experiences or advice?

hi
I'm really new to posting on forums but i just have a really quick question about methadone. ok so i am prescribed to oxycodone for a arm fracture and i now have the chance to get methadone from a friend to try for fun.. but what i have read about methadone concerns me because i have read that methadone blocks you from feeling effects of opiates. (like my oxycodone) i wasnt planing on taking them at the same time(ofcourse) but i would like to know how long it will block me from feeling effects from my oxycodone??
