Kicking Methadone Clinic

Do not take this drug for fun

hi
I'm really new to posting on forums but i just have a really quick question about methadone. ok so i am prescribed to oxycodone for a arm fracture and i now have the chance to get methadone from a friend to try for fun.. but what i have read about methadone concerns me because i have read that methadone blocks you from feeling effects of opiates. (like my oxycodone) i wasnt planing on taking them at the same time(ofcourse) but i would like to know how long it will block me from feeling effects from my oxycodone??

Please listen to me..DO NOT take anyones methadone for fun!!! I have been on methadone maintenance for many years, and I can tell you for a fact that you will not get high, but you very well may die from an OD.. I am not kidding around here, PLEASE dont use this drug without a prescription, If anyone gives you methadone they are not a friend. Google Methadone Oversdoses and that will tell you how serious this is. I hope that I didnt get your post too late and I hope you will listen to me. Methadone is a drug that is not for fun, it has a long half life and you can be ok, go to bed, and just never wake up, especally if you are taking anything else..And yes, methadone will block any other opiate you are taking, but that doesnt mean you cant OD. I am very concerned about your post, Please PM me, or talk to someone you know who isnt willing to give you their methadone. Also, go through the threads here, and look up everything about methadone.. Methadone is a wonderful medication if taken for the right reason, but it is a deadly drug to fool around with..I have been around heroin and everyother opiate since the 1970's, so I know what I am talking about...

Is anyone here on methadone for pain?

I just got on it recently for chronic pain and the stuff I'm reading about it here has me terrified. I mean really freaked out now.
It's only been about 6 or so weeks, do you think I'll have a problem stopping?

After the first week I was taking about 80 mgs, and then after about 3 weeks I went down to about 10 and felt the same, no difference really. Now I'm on about 30-50mg a day for the last few weeks. I didn't think it would be that much of a problem just to switch meds, but now this 5 mg limit is scaring me. It seems like tapering down isn't so bad, but just completely stopping is a nightmare, and getting under 5 mg is real tough.

I know I'm not in the same boat as most of you because I'm new to it, but I have a strong feeling you are all going to tell me to stop ASAP and never go back. But I must say, it does work for pain, but I'm sure I can find something safer that's at least nearly as effective if not equally or better. What are the disadvantages of Mdone compared to the more common strong, long acting pain meds (other than not being able to get off of them, which is obviously the scariest part for me)?

Methadone is a very good medication for chronic pain..You are getting it from your doctor, so there is no need to worry about getting off of it and going through WD's. If and when you and your doctor feels you no longer need it, he/she will not just cut you off. I think that you are worried for nothing. As long as it helps your pain, take it.. In fact, methadone is one of the safest opiates because it has no junk in it, like aspirin, tylenol. It doesnt harm your liver like vicodin. Your doctor made a wise choice in prescribing methadone. You may be freaked out, because you are thinking about people like me who have been on methadone maintenance for addiction for many years, but even then, if done right, withdrawls from methadone is not horrible.. If you ever need to talk, PM me and I will write you back. I saw you did try to write me, and I am sorry I didnt answer, but I was offline for a few weeks because my computer crashed. I couldnt answer your question because I didnt know what thread you were talking about, so write me and let me know, ok?

I was on methadone for nearly a year. During the last 3 months, I was on 100mg a day. I did a pretty fast taper of 10mg every tuesday and thursday until i got to 40mg. Then i switched to subutex and then suboxone. Def. the best decision yet. I hated having to go to the clinic every day (except sunday). I kept testing positive for opiates so i never got takehome bottles. Cost me $55 a week which was def. cheaper than using but MMT was almost as bad. I would have done it differently if i had known...

I actually did have RLS, 2 times, towards the end when all other physical effects had just about abated. Only about 45 minutes one time, and 20 odd minutes the second time. I would rather have that than the runs ans retching. With RLS IF you are able to exert yourself the symptoms dissipate. It is a dopamine issue.

As for what can be done to relieve it, there is a form of manual manipulation that is supposed to foster great results in 80 to 90% of cases but I do not know much about it. Opioids are still the standard cure so, short of more opiates/opioids it is just a matter of keeping your legs active.

Danzor: It blocks other opiates/opioids just like any opiate/opioid blocks others of the same class. IT binds incredibly strong to the relevant receptors. So, once you reach a dose, which is 70 mgs. on average, you canot feel other opiates/opioids. This only happens though with regular usage of 70 mgs and above. Even if you did 70 for a day or two you are not going to be blocked.

Hohov: Well I am glad that it worked out well for you but to many Bupe is not a real option. It is designed for short term on low tolerance addictions since bupe has a ceiling of 32 mgs. Then come the additional issue of having to wait 36 hours after the last methadone dosage to dose with it, and that turns off alot of people who might otherwise gain benefit from the substance.

I might try switching to the bupe transdermal patches when they start getting them here, only for the ease they would provide but am afarid it would never work. Still might try though.

Why did you have to go to the clinic everyday? Maybe I am not understanding your post. Were you using other opiates besides methadone? Well, if you were that would be the reason that you didnt get any take home bottles. If you were on methadone why were you still using? Was your dose too low? Why did you make the switch to Subtex to Suboxone? I assume you know you cant be messing with other opiates while on Suboxone because of WD's,. If you couldnt stay clean on methadone, I doubt Suboxone is the answer for you because if you cant stay clean on methadone, then how can you stay clean on suboxone I am on methadone, and I only go in once a week because I dont use other opiates..I may be wrong about your post, if I am I apologise. There are just too many things I dont understand in your post..Anyway, I hope the Suboxone works for you..

At the clinic i went to, you don't get any take home bottles for the first 3 months. If you're clean for 3 months, you can get 1 take home bottle meaning you come every other day. I didn't have any clean urines for 3 months at a time so I never got any take home bottles. For the last 2 months I was there, i had clean urines and decided I had enough with the clinic. I'm going to a doc now and he did the taper w/ the clinic and then switched me to subutex and then suboxone. I'm on 24mg (8mg 3 times a day).

As for my dose, I was on 100mg for quite a while which should have been enough but I was shooting a lot of bags. Went through bricks very quickly...

I understand now. It took me a whole year to get to the dose that is right for me, and I did use a lot for the first year I started, but I lucked out a few times and was clean when I got tested..There is no such thing as a too low or too high dose, they say most patients should be in the 80-120mg range, but I need more than that. When I first started the clinic (This time) my tolerance was so high, and I was taking handfuls of pills along with the heroin, and they say that Patients who do pharmacuticals on top of heroin need more, that may be a crock of shit , but my husband who is on methadone too, he is comfortable on 65mg, while I need 170mg to feel normal (whatever normal is) I have been using opiates since the age of 14, and I am 54 years old now.. I too tried Suboxone, but it made me very sick. I am one of those people who didnt tolerate the drug, plus my cravings never went away. I was on it before it was approved. I was on one of the studies they did before doctors were able to prescribe it for addiction..I hope it works for you.... I gave it a good three weeks and my husband lasted a month. Hang in there,ok??

How does one's tolerance get effected by Methadone?
I know people can get high or whatever in a normal way a few days after stopping, but how is normal tolerance to opiates effected after stopping?

Once it's out of your system (after about 3 or 4 days?), will your tolerance be close to normal again, or will that take much longer?
Is it like other opiates in terms of increasing tolerance, or does the fact that it "blocks" (or whatever it does) the receptors mean it will effect your tolerance much more or for much longer?

Hi Smacks, I don't know what to tell you. I think you need to talk to your doctor about this. I don't know what it is you really want to know. Why are you concerned about tolerance? Your doctor prescribed the methadone for you, so I think he/she is the person you need to talk to. Since you are taking this for pain, you shouldn't even be concerned about tolerance, or getting high. I am sure if there is a doctor who is a memeber here. they can help you. The best thing for you to do is put in a call to your doctor and ask him/her what you just asked here in your post..
