I have to admit that I almost never even look at this thread but about a decade ago when mephedrone was made illegal in the UK, I remembered that in many situations, sulfonates are bioisosteres of ketones. IC-26 is the ethylsulfone analogue of methadone (for example). I felt quite pleased, fired up Reaxys to see what I could find. NOTHING. I kept stripping down & using less & less similar compounds until it struck me - how the hell would you MAKE it????
Well, so fare, nobody in the 5 million odd references in Reaxys has managed it.

So then I thought 'well, OK, this is a bit LESS similar due to the

lone-pairs being at different angles than sulfonate but give it a try. STILL no luck. So I thought OK, how WOULD I make it?
That is when it hit me. What you would have to do is to add to thiophenol (so that would stink) and oxidise the S just enough (already making it harder) BUT then you would also oxidise any amine. So you end up in the position of either having to reduce to get amine or oxidise to get sulfone or sulfonate.
BUT do not forget - if you see a likely psychoactive compound with a ethylkentone moiety, like IC-26, an ethanesolfonate will work. Actually, a propanesulfonate produces a compound as potent but in every single example I have found, the latter was the more toxic. I mean, it's LogP will be higher but so will it's MW so it's the fact that the propanesulfonate is a very unselective toxin. I have no idea what that would be.
Still, one has to go through all of these things to find 1 good thing.
