Ken Kesey passing over

I dont like people taking shots at me for no reason that to make their own agenda look better at the cost of someone elses.

I wasn't taking a shot at you or anyone. I was just trying to participate in the discussion. Sorry if that somehow seemed like a 'shot'.

I honestly can't begin to understand how you saw it as such, but from this statement:

You cant read into things to much in my view, there are allways hidden connotations in everything.

I'd say you need to accept some things at face value. Especially on an internet forum.

Otherwise, like Crackhead points out, you come across as paranoid.

Agree, he didnt really help things but I found his website as he now does art & makes things I think from glass or clay, I had a small chat with him on email & he seemed a ok guy tbh.

You're talking about Owsley Stanley here? In the present tense? You do know he's dead don't you?

Mr Smokes Blunt was one my favourite posters, shame he's gone.

No need to worry. He seems perfectly happy with life just now:

Oh btw, big fan of the Merry Pranksters here. But when Kesey came to London a few years before his death to promote that film he was an embarrassment. The way he referenced women would have been embarrassing if it was still the 60's.

Your heroes always let you down.

What was the way to deal with acid in the 60's, then? 'Acid tests' and 'freak-out parties', rather than the scientific and philosophical inquiry favoured by Leary?

Yes, thats the way I have seen everything.

Look at the tests the CIA did with all types of stuff like LSD, their results were all fucked up because of the setting they ran it in.

Now look at MDMA for example, you could go with the sitting around on the floor covered in rugs, low classical music playing in the background, hugging your girlfreind, puking rainbows of love & all that new age hippy shit or you could go to some squat gabber techno rave in Camden & go totally fucking nuts till 8am & have the time of your life.

For me the 2nd option wins every time, will give you a far better view of the chemical imo.

What short-sighted nonsense. It will give you a far better view of the chemical, because that's clearly what you prefer to do. If you gave my mum eckies in a Camden gabber squat party she'd fucking hate it, because she'd fucking hate the setting. Whereas she might like the other option.

That's completely subjective though, Shulgin would say taking MDMA in a crowded confusing environment with thumping music is a waste of the chemical as it could lessens and cheapen the experience, preventing you from exploring the full emotional depth you'd get from taking it with a loving partner in a quiet and comfortable environment.

One doesn't exclude the other, some of the best nights of my life have been in grimey raves with tons of people and loud music yet at the same time some of the best nights of my life have also been spent cuddling with a girl in bed listening to Boards of Canada and talking.

It always seemed funny to me that the 'extended consciousness' of many sixties acid luminaries and self-appointed 'gurus' didn't seemingly extend to accepting the notion of equality for women.

Generally true, though not of Lawrence (from Felt).

He'd run out of Go-Kart Mozart keyrings to sell (for smack money, probably) but stayed to have a chat and give me a signed postcard. Once we'd finished talking he looked around for a keepsake, saw there was nothing and gave me a flier as well, just for the sake of giving me something else. Top bloke. ;)

Ahem... sorry. Topic.

I mean to say I think you need to be in extreme places to get a real view of something. It is no good being in a safe place you need something that will throw you off guard & open your mind up.

1st ever rave I went to was the same as I listed (squat rave in Camden) which was the 1st time I ever did proper K & it blew my mind, the 2nd time was all safe in my yard in bed & it was no where near as good.

I truly think you need to be in an extreme environment, I have read in PIHKAL of some guy that took his clients into some desert & gave them huge doses of LSD to make a psychological break through, thats the way I see things too.

To get a real view of something you should probably be in your house, on your own. That way the drug isn't affected by anything external. In your examples the setting has more to do with it than the drug itself, so you're in no way getting a real view of the drug.

Agree 100%, especially for ketamine, first time I tried it I was with other people, it was confusing and I didn't get any insights from it. I only started loving it when I started taking it on my own, at home, in bed with no lights no inputs of any sorts.

Just looking for a bit of consistency here. In the disassociatives thread you said

There is nothing better than on these cold winter nights (or days too) getting loaded up under the duvet, cup of coffee & a spliff in easy reach, room with only the tv on for a small light source watching the world drift by. To me thats perfect.

Elucidate.
