Long story short, been a chronic pain patient for a few months. I'm on 2x 10mg Percocet 3x daily along with 100mg Tramadol and Lyrica. My doctor decided to add Dilauded today (4mg as needed) into the mix, because my tolerance has grown and honestly those doses above do next to nothing for me (both recreationally and very little for pain relief) yet my doctor is refusing to up my dosages to anything I could actually feel.

Very aggravating because I'm in pain and getting little relief, but alas, he seems to think he knows my body better than I do. I'm not gonna lie, when he told me he was going to write a script for hydromorphone, I was kind of excited inside. Thought this could be a fun way to get some relief finally.

Well, obviously I searched BL and found the BA for hydromorphone is pretty ridiculously low with the exception of IV (which I won't be doing). I popped one after my usual dosages and felt absolutely nothing. What a joke. What I don't understand is, why would any pain doctor prescribe Dilauded orally when they have to know it doesn't really work orally? That doesn't make any sense. Now if I take this religiously as I'm supposed to, I'm going to get dependent on diluaded also, although it doesn't do anything for me, and then end up w/ding from 4 medications instead of just increasing my damn Oxy dose.

Seriously, to me this sounds totally illogical.

Anyway, I did try snorting the hydromorphone and it defintely works a bit better, although it still is unimpressive. I did about 8mg and I just felt very heavy, with next to no euphoria and only a bit more pain relief than I normally get. So I'm kind of at a loss here, I know hydromorphone is supposed to be extremely powerful, but only IV (and as a matter of principle, I'm just not going to IV a pill), yet my Dr. was acting like he was giving me the most powerful drug known to man and told me I have to be extremely careful taking this because of how strong it is. -_-

Any ideas? I have some potent stuff at my disposal it seems silly I can't swing this to my advantage.

Thanks guys.

Perhaps rectal administration (plugging)?
Also with your current cocktail of meds I wouldn't be surprised that you have a bit of a tolerance, so maybe you need to adjust your dosage accordingly?

Sure, that makes sense. That's more along the lines of what I was getting at, what do you think I should take in terms of a Dilauded dose? I was just sticking to 4mg, but you think 8 or even 12 would be a safe bet?

Maybe 8 insufflated along with my other meds?

And yeah, I think my doc things I'm exaggerating when I tell him my tolerance has raised to the point where I don't feel much from my current dosages (been at these doses for 2 months or so).

Hate to break it to you, but Dilaudid isn't really recreational. I IV it, which I would not recommend, but it only gives a 30 second rush followed by... nothing. When you take it a prescribed it is a good painkiller which doesn't really diminish mental clarity like others do. Stick to oral and dose it as needed.

Honestly, bioavailablity doesn't mean shit, you just take more to compansate.Lower bioavailabiltiy just means they use higher doses, giving slammers more for their money.IV hydromorphone is 5-8 times stronger than IV morphine. It's bioavailability is 25%, so 4mg=5mg of IV morphine. If your used to 20mg oxycodone and 100 tramadol, 4mg of oral hydromorphone might not seem like much. Thats like adding a 5mg vicodin. Still, best not to get started with IV.

Rotfl, good one:D. Now if only the DEA agreed.OTC Dilaudid-HP ftw!

People like you piss me off, your looking for a high, won't admit it, and say one best pain killers dosent help? Well it does just not the high you want be honest.. ffs

I don't know how one can say its not really recreational, its almost as potent as opana mg for mg and also has a higher bioavailability then opana... you just have to find the right dose or maybe if its not working you have a ridiculously high tolerance.

Listen guys, as any experienced IV drug user will tell you, the dilaudod high is shit. The rush is heavenly, but it lasts about a minute and you are left asking, "what now?"
It leads to compulsive injecting behavior, yes, but for a good opiate high, I would take hydrocodone over it.

I have shot up tp 128mg of hydromorphone at work time. I would highly advise taking my advice and just using it for its superior analgesic profile

I know people who love dilly.
If you can shoot 128mg in a day like I said you probably have quite the tolerance. For those non tolerant, I don't know many who would prefer hydrocodone over a few lines of dilly but thats just me.... I used to like them both anyways.

I sure am looking for a high (and most people here would be lying if they told you anything but), but I'm also looking for solid pain relief. It's why I was put on Dilauded. My tolerance is most likely to blame.

If you had any idea the hell I've been enduring after having been slammed at a red light by a drunk driver in a pickup blowing the light at 45mph and nearly killing me, you'd probably like a nice high from your medications too. At the very least, it's a bit of compensation for being in constant pain and having to endure endless procedures that marginally help me as well as being in a doctors office almost as much as I'm at my house.

Sorry I "piss" you off.

And thanks for the responses. Today I tried 4mg insufflated and 4mg oral with my other meds and it seemed to be much more effective for the pain. The high is lacking, but it definitely amplifies the analgesia of the other meds. So I'll take that over nothing.

Mods can close this unless they desire to keep it open for others.

dilaudid is honestly a great chemical for pain relief. your problems lies in the fact that you 1. have a legit tolerance due to being on other opiates and 2. you abuse your opiates.

4mg orally would provide great relief to someone who doesnt have much of a tolerance and doesnt abuse their meds.

this.

i have been IVing dilaudid for the better part of 5 years. the rush is mind blowing but it has no legs. the "high" is not long at all.

myself, i IV anywhere from 4 to 12mg at a time. when i do 4mg its mainly to get the WD off but i still get a rush. at 8mg i get a great rush and about 1-2 hours of a decent "glow" or high. at 12mg i get a fucking great rush and can stay faded a good 3 hours. i, personally, have never IV'd over 14mg but i know people who do 16-24mg shots on the daily.

dilaudid will also jack your tolerace WAY up.

whoever said that dilaudid is as strong as opana mg for mg needs to do some more reading....

i can certainly see why something like this would make you upset but it doesnt really do any good to voice it over the boards...

I said almost as strong and it is, maybe doesn't last as long but it is up there with some of the most potent opiates.

yeah its up there but certainly not as strong as opana (oxymorphone) mg for mg

actually, you know what, i have only done opana 5mg ers so i dont have a wide range of experience so you may be right.

I've tried Opana once, it appears to be much stronger than hydromorphone. Or maybe the analgesia is only slightly better, but the "high" from Oxymorphone seems much better. Either way.

I think hydromorphone kinda sucks.. even if you have like unlimted pills its like the crack of opiates. YOu just keep shooting them for a little rush and a high that is seriuosly fuckin 15 minutes long (more like 30 but you bharely even feel it.. you feel a rush then a lil euphoria. And the witdhrawals come on SO FAST AND STRONG becuase its quick acting. bUT THE HIGH is like non existant (but the rush is better than oxy).

Dope is much better though

If I was you id def stick wtih oxycodon ESPECIALLY if your taking it orally
