Just been prescribed Nucynta for fibromyalgia...need some help

hey KD I too was recently prescribed nucynta for chronic pain. Ive had the pain my whole life as long as I can remember and nothings really worked so I'm doing pain management now. I was on tramadol before this and it is deffinetely a stronger opioid receptor agonist. the SNRI part does have a synergystic effect on the pain and its fairly effective. I take 1-2 50mg 3x a day and it was 70 bucks for me with insurance for 180. From what I've seen on other sites the going rate without insurance is like 400+ dollars.

I would compare 100mg to roughly 10mg oxy but that can be different for everyone. It seems more euphoric then tram for sure but not quite as much as something like oxy. However going off 100mg being about 10 of oxy I wouldn't say I've really taken a high enough dose for recreational purpose. Im sure it can be fairly euphoric in the right dose, I deffinetely noticed it when switching from tram. Im taking lyrica as well and it's been pretty helpful but I find I still need something regularly for breakthrough pain.

I'd say you really don't have too much to worry about if you were ok on the narco, it is a fairly strong analgesic, but nothing too crazy. Its also supposedly doesn't cause as bad of an increase in tolerance but thats debatable. If anyone has questions i'd be happy to answer them as best as I can.

Edit: By the way headache was the most common side effect I have been seeing on different forums. Personally I haven't really experienced any problematic side effects at all. If you're worried maby try a half dose first. Also it's similar to tram in that it has the SNRI but thats where the similarities stop, this is much more of an opioid.

I knew once they figured out how to do it there will be others to follow and mimic it is the pharmaceutical way.........................

Nucynta is the synthetic M1 metabolite of tramadol/Ultram.....it has potency greater than that of oxycodone, with added "SNRI" effects in the brain......

Tramadol is fucked up.. ya don't get "HIGH" but it sure gets you addicted. So I was also thinking it would be like tramadol. what is mu-opiates? Can someone answer that?

That a complete assumption on your part, tramadol gets people very high... Including myself.

Sorry for the late update, chrisc90 is near on. I'd have to say that 100mg is equivalent to 10-15mg of Oxycodone although its effects are quite different. For my pain relief I prefer it over Hydrocodone/APAP combinations. I enjoy the differing effects to opiates. Also, I can take it along with my Suboxone and still feel the effects.

I notice if I take more then 100mg a DAY I get a headache..I really do not know how I would feel if I did not have any tramadol at all for a day i have been taking it for about 6 months straight I also take vyvanse (but not everyday) the days I take Vyvanase I only take 50 mg. but I swear that I feel that shit waering off and my legs start to KICK and than my mind gets my kick into third gear.

BTW: I was talking about Nucynta, not Tramadol. I would have a hard time comparing a dose of Tramadol to Oxycodone. Nucynta has more of a full opioid agonist effect, making it easier to compare dosages with other opioids.

Well I geuss I am high then lol...I may have used the wrong expression. I don't get the SAME high as I do from the Real Slim Shady:)

I'm actually pretty excited about this. Thanks for making this post as I didn't know about this med before. I have chronic pain that responds well to both opioids and SSRI/SNRI's, so this is something that I will definitely try in the future. I can't try this med now as I am pregnant but as soon as my baby's out I'll be at the doctors asking to put me on this.

I get the best pain relief from something like tramadol, except it its not effective enough in the doses that its prescribed. Opiates are the most effective meds for my pain, but tolerance is too much of an issue. So this med seems like something that will work well for me. Stronger than tramadol and an opiate. Seems like a bulls eye for me since I am mostly interested in the pain relieving qualities of meds and not their recreational qualities. I want a medication that effectively takes away my pain so I can function daily. If wanted to get high I'd take something else. I'm glad they are working on new generation pain meds that combined the best characteristics of medication. This is very very exciting news for me as I have been suffering from chronic pain for something like 8 years. Seems like there will soon be an array of meds that will allow me to live a pain free addiction free life. Hurray!!!

I've used tapentadol recreationally and it's pretty good. Nothing like oxy's though. The feeling of them kinda reminds me of suboxone, definately gives you a opiated feeling but not much euphoria for me at least. Snorting them is what really fucks you up in a good way, but it hurts so bad that it's not really worth it. Overall, I didn't like them that much, but some people do, I know 2 people that said they would be willing to pay $40 just for one 75mg pill. I think that's absolutely insane, but I guess it just affects some people differently.

He is on the fence with this medication....that is scary because I was on the fence with many drugs..so I just kept taking them to see if the affect would be different.....I did heroin for the first time and puked balls...and my thinking was "other people don't puke, let me build my tolerance there has to be a way...wtf kinda thinking is that? I am sick..good luck with the new fangled oxy...:(

Using Nucynta

I have been taking Nucynta for 3 months. My doctor changed my medication from Percacet 7.5mg to Nucynta 50mg for my neck pain/headaches. I would say that it does have a potential for abuse, as there has been times when it has made me feel high, especially during the second dose of the day. The feeling is similar to Percacet, however, it does take Nucynta longer to start working in your system. It has to be taken a few days to get into your system and start working. This is different from other opiates I have been prescribed. With others, the effect is apparent within 30 to 45 minutes of the first dose. I had take Nucynta for 3 days before I could tell that I was taking anything. Also, it seems to be slower at getting out of my system. The withdrawal doesn't seem to be as immediate or as intense when I haven't had any in 3 days. After the third day, then I start having trouble sleeping and I can't be still. I would say that Nucynta seems to be similar to a combination of 5mg or 7.5mg Percacet and 0.5mg of Xanax, as it has more of a calming effect. Hope this helps!

Hey my friend.

I am currently on 300 MG a day (more when I want to feel good) for severe back pain, lower disc compression and fractures.
Anyways, my dosing is as follows;
1x 100MG ER and 1x 50MG IR twice a day.

I am not overly experienced with opioids, however the effects I get from it are very similar yet stronger to than of Tramadol. Very euphoric, happy, easy going! Like you're getting an extended warm hug! And as for the level of pain relief I get.. Well lets just say I can function normally throughout the day where as on 300 MG of Tramadol, I usually had to dose higher and could get to the point when I didn't have my meds on hand that I could not stand, walk or even go to work as I would be in excruciating pain.
The downsides, all medications I take for PTSD and depression have more of a kick i.e. sedation. Don't drink, it's not fun, even if they have been out of your system for a few days.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!
