Just been prescribed Nucynta for fibromyalgia...need some help

Was just prescribed this as a possible option for my pain management (fibromyalgia). Two days in and I think I'm getting some funky side effects from this. The headaches and the dizziness aren't too bad - they seem like the kind of side effects that would go away once I get used to it. The strange one, though, is the phantom smell I've been having. It's the same smell, really hard to describe since I've never smelled anything like it before. The best description I can think of is "metallic dust." It's...really odd. I'm going to stop taking this.

Actually, both tramadol and tapentadol are more closely related structurally to the antidepressants venlafaxine and duloxetine than to the opioids! By a happy coincidence, a portion of the drugs molecular structure just happens to snap right on to the mu-opioid receptor. Tapentadol has a higher affinity for the serotonin receptor, so has pretty significant antidepressant and mood-elevating action, which it's feebler brother, tramadol, does not.
It produces greater euphoria than tramadol, which is why I think it was placed on schedule II. I've written 40-50 scripts for it, and have had no complaints from my ER patients.

Trams are a total bitch to quit for people that are genuinely addicted to them. I bet this isn't much better. Anything that has SNRI properties is notoriously hard to quit. Traditional opioids lack the mind fuck that psych drugs have.
