Joint Rolling - European vs. American Methods

Where I live weed is kinda expensive, so most of the potheads put tobacco in it. I'm not a cigarettes smoker, but I do it too. It's more economic that way and it burns better.

as an american (midwest), myself and probably everyone i have ever smoked with has been just weed, no tobacco. we also tend to use a filter consisting of a zig-zag packet's excess cardboard. had a friend's cousin visit from england and he always rolled monster joints, but they contained a ratio of 60:40 tobacco to weed. my friends and i thought the tobacco joints were really harsh, whereas our british friend hated smoking just weed.

Buy a pack of glueless "Club's" & a tiny pair of (folding) stainless steel scissors - Cut thin strips from a Bud till you have a pile for a large reefer - Practice - a large pinch on each end - Remember, you have to lick & tear the last eighth inch for it to stick... Practice twists Perfect.

I remember that thread. Tried looking for it about a week ago and couldn't find it. Was a good thread.

In Toronto, most people I know roll with roaches. Among my group of friends, if we roll it's either a kingsizew, a Randy (rolling paper with built-in wire to hold as roach clip) or a Rand-L (Randy with a zig-zag). Normally we mix tobacco, but the odd time we'll roll a pure. If we're smoking bong, it's split between batch-bowls (weed+tobacco), pure bowls or poppers (metal screw-off downstem. screw off top bowl, grab a chip of tobacco and push it in the top of the cylinder. pack weed on top. clear in one hit, makes "popping" sound when you clear hence the name. Heard of others doing them in the UK as "shotties", Ontario and select other places in Canada and US). I personally will go for anything depending on my mood. I'm not a cigarette smoker, but most of the time I do prefer smoking with tobacco because I find that the weed smoke is too harsh and the tobacco smokes smooths it out. Also I feel they synergise well, and actually makes tobacco somewhat enjoyable to smoke(to me - hate smell/taste of tobacco).

I love "shotties"! I find it weird as hell that people on this forum know about those actually, I thought it was sort-of one of those things that random kids in your neighborhood make up! Haha, here we call them Yaughties :D

I don't like using filters for the sole reason that it takes up valuable weed space in the roach. It's so frustrating when you run out of weed and turn to your roaches only to find out there only full of fucking filters...

^ whats the deal with you americano/canadiano folks saving roaches? I Never understood that, instead of filling it to the end just use a cardboard roach, then you don't end up with 100's of partly smoked spliff ends...

or do I have the wrong idea entirely? xD

The entire idea of roaches in my opinion is so when you run out of weed, you can hit up your roaches, tear them open and get another couple joints worth. Sticking anything on the end will make this idea useless.

Maybe it's just cause I'm broke a lot of the time and any way I can get high again without buying more is a win in my book.

Non-gummed rolling paper, no roach, more tobacco than weed (ratio wise). Light up, sit back, exhale.

in this particular part of world, most people use king sized Rızla's with roaches, they use filter cigarette tobacco too (a 60 to 40 tobacco weed ratio).

^Thanks for bumping this thread, I couldn't find it! Merged with the current thread about joint rolling styles across the world.

I'm from America. Don't really understand why people put tobacco in with their smoke...Tobacco is much harsher on the lungs than weed smoke and I find that I have a hard time holding in hits long enough to get a good buzz. I do agree that smoking tobacco in a joint or spliff WILL make it burn better...but that's why you buy a blunt and roll it in that. Even smoking blunts I have a hard time holding in a hit for more than a few seconds...It just crushes my lungs. But to each his own,no hating on the euros and brits. As long as everyone's still gettin hiGH....that's the point right?

^ I Like your style, Mr.hedges! :)

I've always found it harsher when it's just pure weed in there, but i've smoked tobacco/weed mixed spliffs pretty much my entire toking life! Am I the only one who finds that a bit strange? people who don't usually have tobacco find it harsher with it, but those who have tobacco find it harsher without..

doesn't make sense to me!

Newb, you probably just have some serious skunk (when's the last time you heard that shit? Ha, probably early '00's since I've used it) that hits harder than a bodybuilding bitch, and, my opinion, I think you're just so used to tobacco smoke that it might mellow out the tough hits of the herb you smoke.

Or you smoke complete shit, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case with you. :-D

Blunts are primarily a North American thing. Even in Canada, though, you'll find a lot of people who'll prefer papers and glass to blunts. Me? I grew up with the whole "gangsta" culture. White boy surrounded with thugged out black kids gentrified out of parts of DC and Baltimore (yeah, I was a wigger in middle school... learned I was white when I hit 9th grade, lol). Needless to say, I prefer a Dutchmaster or a Game, de-leafed, rolled, and then re-rolled with the outer leaf. Thanks to BL, though, I learned about the slow-burning qualities of mixing in just a tiny bit of tobacco with the smoke. I never let my folks in on it, though, and would just take a pinch of the guts and try to sneak it into the herb before I twisted (or just twist up out of sight). When I did it that way, no one ever caught on to the taste of extra tobacco in the Dutch and always commented on how my Js burned longer than anybody elses. To this day nobody's caught on, and I've been doing it for about 6 years now. What used to be a 15-20 minute blunt's turned into a 45 minute+ session off of one roll-up.

To each their own, I would smoke pure if it were not so harsh. I mix my weed (even in bongs) with about 20% tobacco, which I lightly toast before mixing (burns out some of the nicotine, I find it pretty much eliminates the tobacco head rush I get from taking big bong rips otherwise). I find that a small amount of tobacco makes it burn more smoothly, and the smoke is less... "spicy" or prickly on the throat, and doesn't generate a need to cough. I find that pure weed "tickles" my throat in such a way that it's hard not to cough - and once you cough the first time, it's followed by at least 15 more.

Tobacco smoke, if there's a lot of it, is definitely heavier and more harsh, but somehow, paradoxically perhaps, I find that a small portion of tobacco with a majority of weed creates the smoothest smoking experience. :)

^How do you go about "toasting" your tobacco, out of curiosity?
some people like to toast their cigarettes with the lighter before mixing the tobacco with the weed. like heating it from outside without the paper getting burnt but turning it brown. some people say it makes the smoke lighter, but i don't know really. ymmv^^
