Police say a jogger on a southeast Texas beach has found a burlap bag containing 55 pounds of cocaine worth about $2 million.

Galveston police Capt. Jeff Heyse says the man was running on Indian Beach when he noticed the sack along the water.

The Galveston County Daily News reported Wednesday that the man, whose name hasn't been released, was unable to open the sealed bag so he took it home. Heyse says the man then cut through the packaging and discovered 25 bricks. (See the Galveston Daily News video below).

He contacted police, who determined the packets contained cocaine.

Heyse says the bag discovered Monday morning was probably dropped from a boat and it's not the first time that cocaine has washed up on the beach.

"When cocaine comes like this, it didn't come from the states," Heyse told the newspaper. "It came from south of the border. So, our jurisdiction is limited of what we can do with it."

Guess this jogger didnt have any connections to get rid of it. To some people, this is like hitting the lottery, to others like the jogger, it could be a nightmare, I dont know how, but its whatever.

I'm gonna do that in Galveston, for sure! I live in Houston so no problem!

what a fucking moron jogger.... :|

You could do it 2 life times & never get as lucky as this jogger. It was once in a lifetime opportunity & this jogger passed it up. Im assuming they are straight laced & dont even smoke weed.

A friends dad told me about he and his buddies would dress up as joggers (jogging suits) and go mushroom hunting. This was in the 70's though.

I wouldn't call the jogger a moron. If you're an established adult with a family and a career, the fuck would you risk throwing that all away to make some fast drug money. I probably wouldn't. Besides, the average drug user, not to mention the average citizen, sure as hell does not have the means to sell that amount of coke quickly or safely.

He was probably smart enough to know he's get burnt if he tried. What do you think some street savvy career criminal is going to do once word gets out that a naive white boy has his hands on 50 pounds of coke. Your throat would be slit in your bed.

I wouldn't have tried to get rid of it. I'd have found a fantastic hiding spot and had a stash for years... Obviously I'd have used a reagent test kit to verify that it was indeed cocaine. Or sent a sample to ecstasydata.org's lab... But after confirmation, I'd have tried the stash. That's a lifetime supply lol. And you bet it was likely fairly clean, cocaine is generally minimally cut in quanitities that large, so it's less bulky and can be cut later in distribution...

I see where you're coming from. He also dragged that bag home before cutting it open so to me that means there werent many people that saw him finding that bag. He probably did have a family & definitely wasnt connected in any way, that is why he did what he did. If he remotely knew one person that knew anything about what he found or he partied himself, he would have kept it.

Forget about selling it.......do you really think someone that likes doing coke & partying from time to time would turn it in to the cops? LoL, I highly doubt it. Also, you dont think some crooked cops chopped that shit down, oh you better believe it.

That's true. It might impress to break out that shit along with the crystalware when hosting social events.

To put it in perspective, assuming that he was not into drugs, I imagine what it would be like to find $2million worth of stolen art.
I would have no idea how to sell it. I would be scared to try to find people to buy it.
Can't say what I would do, but I probably would want it out of my house asap.

I would not put something like that in my house period! I would also be scared to find anybody to buy it. I would honestly probably not even touch something like that. I wouldn't call it in or anything. I would probably just curiously watch from a distance it to see what happens to it lol. Too much risk in being caught in the vicinity of a fucking kilo let alone 20 of them.

This is the kind of shit drug users dream about, but like someone said there is no way this guy could have shifted this without getting robbed blind. Even someone who is a drug user and is connected, unless they are known or have known contacts they would not be able to shift it. They would get robbed straight out, even a small time dealer unless they had some fire/power behind them they would still get robbed. As soon as someone sees the slight opportunity that this guy is not serious he would just have his coke taken from his hands and told to fuck off and not look back...

^ exactly, esp cause with that amount of money involved, there are definitely a lot of people interested. I would be afraid of getting gunned down. That is a lot of money, not to mention a lot of risk. If anyone saw him with those "suspicious packages," they might've turned him in and he would be royally fucked. I've never even tried coke. I've only seen it twice. However, I know enough about it to know that it is not a joke, especially not 55 pounds of it.

Damn that is one hell of a find, I found a dimebag once but that dosent really compare to this score :) Seriously though giving it to the piggies probably was alot smarter than trying to sell it. With out knowing the right people it would take forever to move all that weight & stay alive & unarrested in the process.
If it had been 50#'s of tops shelf ganja though I gotta admit my car would be loaded down and id be on down the road with a quickness!! much easier to deal with potheads than cokeheads and dealers id guess..

55 pounds of coke is a lot of heat. If you aren't well connected it wouldn't be worth it. Even if you are a drug user, you don't want to be sitting on that much powder for very long or you can bet that you will get busted or it will get stolen or something. You'd want to get rid of it quick, and if you don't have somebody already to drop it off with chances are pretty good that whoever you find would just assume rob you and take it. The common jogger isn't going to want to risk arrest or getting beaten or killed over that shit. Of course, Greenstar is right, weed is a totally different animal, and it would really surprise me a lot more to see someone turning over a duffel bag full of weed they found to the pigs.

I use cannabis and psychedelics, but have never touched powder. Just a couple weeks ago I was jogging up a dry creek bed and found about a gram of powder that someone had ditched. I assumed it to be coke based on my area, but I suppose it also could have been molly or k or speed. Anyway, I just left it at first, thinking it would probably make some homeless guy's night. I was halfway home when I decided to go back and ditch it at a public garbage can. I didn't want some kid coming across it. I kind of think I would have done the same thing if it was a large quantity. I wouldn't want anything to do with it, but would consider making a quick phone call or something to get it off the beach, either to a friend who would know what to do with it or the cops if nothing else. I normally wouldn't get involved, but it is kind of a public health risk to leave drugs (or unknown powder) out in the open where anyone could get it.
