ha my mate gets 350 a week for sitting around most days smoking weed an playing xbox
 
Yeah i imagine lots and lots of people enjoy having a job.

it's kind of a prerequisite to eating good food and living in a nice house, which i also enjoy.
 
There's a difference between it being a neccessity in order to live and actually taking enjoyment out of it.
 
it's not really a necessity in order to live though is it? I could claim dole and get my rent paid for but my quality of life would be BAD. it's more a necessity in order to enjoy life :)

Not that i'm saying anyone on the dole is not enjoying life, but on £60 a week they can't be having much of a good time.
 
yeh round here the only jobs on offer are fish factory through agencies, fuck workin in one of them 40 hours a week for £150 when u would end up having to pay ur own rent and only end up about £30 better off then u would beo n the dole for 40 hours work
 
they should offer some kind of incentive for people to take jobs like that, i agree that working in a fish factory for fuck all when you can sign on and just get a little bit less is bollox. If i were in the same situation with only that on offer i'd probably sign on as well.

Can you not get on a college course or something?, Don't they pay youngens now days to go college? EMA or what ever it is?
 
yeh man it is grim here ha, they do offer EMA but unfortunatly my parents are still together so im not eligable. fucking loads of bollox:|
 
I'm getting hassled every time I go into the job centre as my job searches never bring back any decent jobs. i fill in the job diary thing with the things I've done to search for jobs, put something in for every day, and they still hassle me.

Thing is my situation dictates that it's just not possible for me to work at the moment. Rent at this place is 180 a week if I work, as it's supported accommodation, and I've myself to work on before I can work.

So what the fuck do I do? I need to learn to lie, like everyone else seems to get away with.

I've always wanted to COME OFF the dole asap whenever i've been on it, so fought my best to get a job.

Yeah, it's a joke that they just give you enough free money to eat! They should give you at least enough to buy a load of designer clothes, a PS3 and a big plasma TV, smoke 20 fags a day and go to the pub three times a week. Actually, I kinda got the impression they do? ;)

And i believe its only the over 25's here that get £60 in england... the under 25s (food must be cheaper for them) get like £40 a week or something. GRIM!
 
It's not free though is it because you pay your taxes towards it, at least we should be able to expect a reasonable amount to live on when we're not working.

No one on £65 a week JSA can afford clothes (designer or otherwise) let alone PS3s and plasma teles. You'd struggle to get 20 fags and go to the pub 3 times as well. What dream world are you living in?

I was making a reference to the number of career-unemployed who seem to do more than just OK out of it...

I agree entirely that working and paying taxes means that you should have something half-decent to fall back on when things aren't going so well. Problem is the number of people who exploit the system and have no intention of getting a job, and the more they can get by sitting on their arses the less incentive still they'll have to work. It's a difficult issue that's been around for decades and one that no government has really managed to solve.
 
Basically the whole welfare system is creaking and being kept running by a too-small number of people who don't sit around drinking tea all day but who actually do have a commitment to trying to make sure the unemployed get treated with some sort of common decency and respect,but who are just too rushed and bloody pressured to have much time for social niceties. I should know, I'm one of them. Oh, and I bet I don't get paid half as much as you would think.
 
we should have a swap around of the system. Sack all the DSS staff and employ all the unemployed in their place. then we'll have lots of unemployed people who have recent work history, a good CV, references and a will to work and they should be pretty good at getting jobs since their profession was dishing them out.

the job center will still be run by cretins and all the vacancies will be filled up and nobody out of work, which means we can sack all the DSS staff again and they can go back to drinking special brew and smoking crack.

No, every word of that is complete bollocks. The problem hasn't been around for decades - 5 years ago unemployment was lower than it had been for decades. The reason? There was quite a few jobs. The reason people are on benefits now is...drum roll.....
