Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

K88 is right to worry about his job. At the last count it was 18 pubs a week (and rising) closing down.

Still, I'm sure that penny off the pint in the budget will do the trick for everyone.

"If I had to I would, "Duncan Smith replied. His claim prompted an online petition calling on him to prove it that chalked up 25,000 signatures in its first day.[/I]

It was closer to 60k when I signed it. Not that there's really any point right enough, it's not like he's actually going to do it or even give the slightest little fuck about it.

All the benefit cuts make no sense.

Think about it, if someone already on a shoestring budget loses 20 quid a week, that is 20 quid less spend in the supermarket/high street. Since those on very low incomes tend to spend every penny they have. So benefit cuts = depressing the economy. And by the same token, adding 10 quid a week to JSA would be a massive stimulus to the economy. Pretty obvious economic logic.

Yet the rich get a 5% tax cut, which is very unlikely to be spent in any significant manner, rather it will sit in an already large bank account or be invested in something complicated to gain even more completely pointless wealth.

Fuck you David Cameron, fuck you to hell.

It's up to 70k now.. Was there not something done like this back in the late noughties? I'm sure I have heard of a politician doing exactly this for a P.R stunt - though quit after 3 days. I have googled it, though without knowing even the chaps name who attemted to live on I think it was income support for a week, my search was fruitless. I might see if I can dig it up.

So did Michael Portillo. Lived with a single mum for a week or some shit, then quit the Tory party. I think.

A woman from the Tory party did something similar on some show with other MPs & got bounced off for sneaking extra cash in.

Ian Duncan Smith is a prize bunnet. He lives in a house owned by his wife's dad (rent free), earns around £200 a day & employs his wife as his secretary (again, I think, not sure about that last one) yet he has the cheek to shout he could live on £50 a week. Could he fuck. He has absolutely no concept of being skint, no clue whatsoever.

Edit - Neither do I to be fair. Not really. I know what it's like to have no money, but there's always been someone there to tap me money/feed me etc. Fuck knows how you survive if you're living on £50 a week & your oven breaks or something.

Im sure you could work something out with all the hot air you produce. but obviously steaming food aint a big priority in scotland.

However, i wouldnt get too excited as they will probably start taxing it.

you could always call people liars on the internet for a living! i aint living it down treacle! anyway this thread is of no concern of mine right now...that being said today was a dark day for britain and i do worry about the outcomes

Yeah i remember some very rich people appearing on the Wogan TV show after living off the £27 a week that the dole was at that time. They only thought about food which they managed ok (they could even afford a bottle of wine wow).

They didnt think about budgeting for bills, clothes, shoes or any more expensive purchases though.

As another poster said - Matthew Parris attempted it in 1984 when the dole was £26.80 - he didn't budget for his electric metre, so it failed miserably. He tried again in 2004. I wonder if IDS actually will put his wallet where his mouth is. I think it is vital for these suits to actually advise the country on the back of experience rather than tweaked, misinterpreted statistics.

We just got a food bank recently in the town where I live (which is considered affluent) after a lot of controversy, and it got emptied within a week. Seriously, some weeks I go days without eating because I just cant afford to go shopping. My hours are erratic at the moment. I wish I hadn't used my recent cash injection to pay off debts that would have been written off soon anyway :-( Preparing for the future never was one of my strong points. I'm not looking forward to this whole signing on malarky. But it says something when you'd actually be better off on the dole, than working a reasonable amount of hours to try and support yourself. There's not much help for people in my situation. Part time work is just not feasible.

You can sign on & work part-time. Not sure how much hassle it is though & whatever you earn gets deducted from your giro afaik. Still, if you're earning less than JSA but want to keep your job in the hope that your hours might improve or something then it might be worth looking into.

That IDS petition is at like 170k now btw haha. The cunt's still going to pay it no attention.

It was on the news yesterday about some petition (cant remember what for :\) that got more than 600,000 signatures, but no one took a blind bit of notice.

You sure it wasn't Ian Duncan Smith, he made a comment about being able to live on £53 a week. Though the petition has been climbing steadily, there was between 60-70k on it yesterday, and it's up to around 160k now. Not 600.000. perhaps I'm not on the same page as you. Dunno. Regardless. It won't make a blind bit of difference to all the skint people who can't pay their bills this week will it.

Apparently you are allowed to earn (hold on to your hat buddy) A WHOLE FIVE POUNDS before it affects your benefit. Anything over and above gets deducted. Yeah the petition is climbing fast - but as we all know, it aint gonna make a blind bit of difference. The biritish public have little to no respect for these suits who tell us how to live our lives. it would actually be a step in the right direction, if they knew exactly how it is, they are expecting us to.

Na, what he's saying is that there was a previous petition for something else that got to 600k but no-one gave a fuck, ie no-one is going to give a fuck about this IDS one no matter how many people sign it.

Oh I see, sorry I was not paying attention properly.

That's not true. I'm not sure of the exact figure, but it's certainly not a fiver. Additionally, you can work up to 16 hours a week, and still sign on for JSA.
