Japanese Anime & Manga

Well, I'm half way through RahXephon and let me tell you this series rocks. Its being heralded as "Evangelion done right", but I'm not sure I would go this far just yet.

It has a very good and complex story line, engaging characters - although there seem to be alot of main characters that can make it hard to keep track. The animation is sensational and the mecha's designs are very good.

Also another series to look out for is Naruto - I have a few episodes in my possesion and its very good - maybe a little too kiddy for me at times, but still fun to watch. I'm not a big fan of ninja anime's but this is fun. Again, its early to judge. It looks like Naruto will be another long series which ultimately might mean it will never see Aussie shores.

A sereis I have just finished is Onegai Teacher - I cannot brag enough about this series. In a similiar vain to Love Hina, its a love story with just the right amount of comedy (at times I felt Love Hina went over board coupled with the fact that the series went for too long). Its a short series and one I highly recommend - the characters are well developed and the animation is simply stunning. Oh and Nezo - you should see the FAN SERVICE 8o

Series 2 of Onegai Teacher is scheduled for screening in Japan shortly :)

I missed cowboy bebop and spirited away when they screened, and I'd love to see metropolis again, so I will definitely be there for those :D

yay, the dvd's finally came in. So i finally got to find out what happened to sojuro, and shishio.

After shihso used the secret sword 2, i was like... wtf. That can't be right... nahh.. no way.

Really spun me out !

I dunno what to buy next, dvd volumes 1>12, or just wait till 15+ gets released.

I saw another series called "lain" , gunna have to borrow them from the shop!

I've convinced my mate to order in heaps of anime, for his store, so lots of trying before buying now :D

btw, any of u seen avalon? i just saw it on dvd, same director as ghost in the shell... i loved the way it was filmed. black and white, very stark contrast but soft tones, very noir.

it's almost like live action anime :)

Is it out on R4 dvd now?? I went to see this last year at the MIFF but they cancelled the screening because they didn't ship a copy with subtitles :X 8)

i borrowed grave of the fireflies off daq and i just want to say that it was incredibly sad and sweet. it reminded me of a book i read when i was younger about a boys lone adventures with a dog he finds during wartime.. deeply moving in the same way. very good.

Hey Ghost, can you let me know how lain is :)

Been thinking of investing in it!

My list of Anime Movies I must see: Plz add any real good ones, I've seen a lot of the popular ones like Akira...

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heavens door
My Neighbor Totoro
Grave of the Fire Flies

One that just appeared at my mates video shop is Jin Roh, have yet to seen it. But its done by the same guys that did GITS and Akira.

It's meant to be somewhat unreal :)

Dunno if its new or old, but i know its an overnight at the shop.

Also add to ur list...

Armitage (Dual Matrix) - stay from Polymatrix as it sucks.
A Tree of Palme
Spirited Away
Kiki's Delivery Service
Princess Mononoke

Actually anything from Studio Ghibli :)

I also second Jin Roh
