Japanese Anime & Manga

Yep NEdomesticatedZO I will be there :)

Laziness got in the way last time(i fell asleep), but this time round i shall make every effort to overcome my heavy eyelid syndrome.

Most sundays are pretty cool with me-so whatever is best for the rest of ya.

Let me know.

Seems like the 18/5 is a good date so far - Vurt? anyone else?

The other thing to be decided - viewing schedule?

Haste-When converting your fansubs what have you been using. I assume you are converting a divx (avi) to a vcd (mpg).? I always have audio/video sync probs whenever i try it. Is quite the pain in the ass indeed!

Let me know what program you find best for this.

Thanks

Daq - Sync problems are quite common when converting AVI (DIVX) to VCD (MPEG). There is a way around it and it all depends on what you use in the encoding process.

I use a program called TMPGEnc. and Virtualdub

Here's a detailed Guide on how to use the above together.

In order to avoid sync problems, I load the AVI into Virtualdub and extract the audio into a uncompressed WAV file - it takes next to no time. Then when it comes to encoding the video in TMPGEnc, I select the WAV as the audio source. Doing it this way I have no sync problems.

Also, when using TMPGEnc - its internal audio encoding tool (when coverting the WAV file into the finished MPEG) is pretty crap. There is an option that allows you to select an external tool - I use tooLame

Once you get used to it its pretty simple :)

Just watched the 4th and final disc of the HellSing series after getting into 1/2/3 around a week ago.

I dont watch Anime apart from the Neon Gen series a month or so ago and I thought Hellsing was absolutely brilliant.

From what I remember Hellsing is cool - I can't believe I can't remember it well - but then again the amount I watch...... :\

I just went into harvey norman superstore in moorepark, and theres so many DVDs!! God damn, I want to buy some, but no moolah

You've been talking about cowboy beebop, I saw the series to that... and was going to buy it. I think i will actually.

or would you reccomend another series...

theres one, with a single word name... got lots of skimpy chicks on the cover...

forgot the name though.

Now it wouldn't be Noir by any chance? ;)

ooooh tough choice between CB or Noir!!!

I'd go Noir, but alot of people find it slow until the middle of the series.

Just a little note on Cowboy Bebop - Vol 3 has a fault on the disc caused during the authoring process - Madman have recognised this and will be re-authoring the disc. I'd hold off until then for Vol 3.

that settles it then...18/5th anime session...we are watching noir. ace...anime and chicks...and beer...what a combo!

Fuck your good haste ;)

yeah it's noir... I don't really know anything about it, except it looks kinda cool. Might see if they have them in the video shop, and if they do... go borrow some!!

I'm sure I saw them before...

My mates, boss doesn't like him ordering in Anime though... pity :(

Since CB is messed up... I might hitch onto Noir :)

I'm still waiting on my Kenshin, to come through though....

then again, there is Samurai X , is that just as good as Kenshin?

18/5, Anime, Chicks and Beer are good with me.

Noir sounds Cool.
I Like Brunettes and Becks. Or Stella at a pinch.
Blondes will do if no brunettes are around.
But Redheads are pushing it.
:)

How long does the entire series of Noir run for Haste? Also are there any other films you could bring as well. Something obscure that you think is great ie:not Akira or Ghost in The Shell :)

Or any of the miyazaki ones. Cause ive seen em all.

Samurai X the OVA's (Trust and Betrayal) are good - chronologically they occur ten years before the TV series. They are different in animation and feel - its much darker and therefore the directors opted for a more realistic animation approach. I do miss the comical relief that you find in the TV series and manga though. Still essential to complete the Kenshin saga. Even though they deal with a time period before the series, I recommend seeing the first two arcs of the series first - alot in the series will help with the OVA.

The movie follows the same style as the TV series and I also recommend seeing it after the first two arcs.

I always found it funny them calling the above Samurai X - Kenshin fought along side the Mejii to bring down the Shogun and therefore the Samurai - Kenshin wasn't a Samurai ;) It was re-named in order to appeal to the mass public 8)

Now, as for animefest 2!!

I have all of Noir on fansub - so if its decided I'll covert to VCD :)

I dont get your logic on the kenshin not being a samurai thing... the samurai's ties, ended with their masters. I think :) I'm a bit rusty on my history...
