Although there are some people that claim they can IV just by feeling when they've hit the vein. eon_blue said:Which registering technique were you taught? Pull back a little on the rig before you hit the vein so that the blood draws itself? That's the easiest way IME.
phatass said:no i was taught to instead of trying to pull back w/ only the thumb, hold the needle defferently (with thub and ring finger) and use the index and middle finger to pull back (usually gets quite a lot of blood shoot into the rig)... i used to do it jus by "feel" i knew a few spots where i knew i had hit a vein, but i over used these spots very quickly...
i agree, for most this isn't fresh news, but if it can help at least a couple of "noobs" like i was... then its worht it...![]()
Fight Club said:A technique that worked well for me involved attaching a key ring to the end of the plunger, then inserting my index finger in the ring. (Kind of like the old time syringes that had a metal loop at the end instead of a "button")
Register, pull back to verify; push forward to finish. Easy as . . . whatever. If you don't have to reposition hands and fingers after registering, you reduce the chance of slipping out.
Riiiiiiiiiing.

ifonly said:i hate the fact that when i used to register with a 10ml barrel, i had to squeeze down so hard to inject and if i was sweaty or anything it felt like i was gonna stab the entire needle trhu my goddamn arm. like my injecting hand wud be shaking i was pressing down so hard, and all that time i had to keep thr vein exactly in the vein, cause 9 or 10ml is a lot of liquid to skin pop or something
luckily ive never missed a shot or had anything bad happen at all apart from the typical red mark
p.s. if i had used a 23 instead of 25 gauge needle, could this eliminate the problem of hand force/pressure as the liquid would have had an easier route to get into the vein?
