Is opiate addiction worth it?

The high is positive, or else people would just be able to go on methadone.

There's a lot of bullshit info on Bluelight, for starters. Mostly because it's a bunch of uneducated punks who believe reading user posts and Erowid makes them experts. It doesn't.

If you're actually addicted to heroin, there really is no high to speak of. You get a rush from the injection. Then you simply feel normal. You could shoot a half gram and be unable to hold your head up and still be convinced that you're absolutely fine and need more.

And as far as methadone, YOU MOST CERTAINLY CAN GET HIGH ON METHADONE. When I had an extremely high tolerance, I much prefered a high dose of methadone to heroin since the methadone kept me feeling decent for so long. And when my tolerance was low, I would just get extremely high for an extremely long time.

But either way, no, the high from heroin is not worth getting physically addicted to it.

me first

I dunno about the addiction but I just had my first shot of H last night. It was wonderful and the hot opiated sex was even better. Thanks to the one that introed me to such an amazing world. (you know who you are! );)

I know you can get high off of methadone, I was about to go on methadone but luckily I got some good advise from a friend before I went on it. I was saying if people don't get any high off of heroin then why wouldn't they use methadone, which gets rid of withdrawl, anxiety, and cravings(to some).

I expected to get that from most people, I figured a few would say it was worth it though. I was looking to see if there is anyone that is physically addicted more out of desire to get high on heroin then the disease of addiction. I would like to thank everyone that took the time to respond, your posts have been very helpful.

When you first try it, you think its worth getting addicted to, but once you start doing it regularly and you build up a tolerance, you begin to regret it, seriously.

NO, what a dumb question. An addiction to ANYthing is not good!
Thats a very broad statement, and considering you have not been addicted to everything you really don't have the type of experience to make it. As to my question being dumb, I don't see how so many people would perpetuate an addiction and would even relapse after many years of being clean if it wasn't in some way worth it. I understand many of these people have the disease of addiction, but I figured some might use for another reason. Doesn't seem that "dumb" of a question to me.
Also, I did not ask this question cause I plan on getting addicted, I have been addicted before and I do not plan on getting addicted again.

someone doesn't have to be addicted to every possible thing in the world to know that addiction to ANYTHING is not a good thing.. I'm really glad that you are an ex addict, really. Being dependant on something isn't good, period.

What if you're addicted to something that your doc's given you and you need to be on it for a year or 2 longer? Is that ok?
Say Benzo', addiction to that is really fucking bad and can be fatal! :\

twgburst...this was indeed a good question? Kharma_bum you really do need to be addicted to opiates in order to even think about giving advice on this subject.

I thought i knew A LOT before getting an opioid addiction..i had done every drug under the sun (properly..meaning for extented periods of time...but never got addicted to anything) but this is before i got into opioids...it's the only drug that actually made me realize what a fucking real addiction is.

But as of right now i'm sitting on enough h to kill a couple of rhino's and enough benzo's to kill an elephant. BUT I still don't recommend opioid addiction to anyone...it's a full time job i.e. if your living in the states.

If your an opioid virgin and would like to still try it never ever do it for 2 weeks straight especially h. I can get into details but my rig is ready to go and that means i gotta go!

What are you talking about? it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that addiction is bad. YES, I have been addicted to opiates so your statement holds no water.. this is stupid, you can do whatever you want.. become a opiate junkie and tell everyone how addiction isn't bad and that its worth it. Keep telling yourself long enought and maybe it'll become true. I don't give a shit.

uh, i've never been addicted to opiates and i can already tell you it's not worth it. there is such a thing as *moderate* opiate usage, ya know. think about it: when has anyone been glad to be addicted to something? such a person claiming otherwise would just be over-rationalizing their behavior.

no matter how good a drug is, people would prefer having control of their own lives over being hopelessly dependent on a substance. (though, like i said, people that are addicted might deny this because they're trying to rationalize their actions. if they could step back and look at their lives with a sound mind, they would definitely not wanna be addicted, no matter how good the nod.)

don't get me wrong, i'm sure mainlining smack feels great, but even in that extreme case i'm sure people would rather be able to get high like that on a whim rather than doing it because they're overwhelmed by its addictive nature.

^^^besides the brain damage caused by stimulant and heavy benzodiazapines abuse......

Going through one of these types of addiction probably does not make one stronger..........

Maybe if opiates were incredibly cheap and legal, and always got you as high as the first time, and still allowed you to function perfectly normally all the time (i.e. you enjoyed them enough, but still had the desire to do other things and go to work, take care of yourself etc)

unfortunately thats a lot of exceptions

once someone is truely addicted they need that drug just to feel normal, at this point its not much fun, pleasurable, or exciting anymore. It is a need you have to feed.

In the beginging it must be "I cant believe I was fortunate enough to discover this stuff, its the greatest thing to happen to me"

When you need it to feel normal, and not even as normal as you did before you had it, that sucks. This is why people want to quit.

from personal experience, opiate addiction is one of the trickiest things around. while you're using, you can't see it as the problem it is until you get really low. Its important to consider where you're going, not just where you are. You may be doing well but be on a collision course for disaster and not realize it. If you think about it, its just a little bit of powder, how can it effect your life if you dont want it to? Why can't I control whats going on in my life? Why can't I, just for today, get high and not have it matter? This sort of thinking occurs everyday, and keeps you in the same patterns. Also, the drug makes you less aware of whats going on, and you have no idea what you look like from a sober point of view. Just a few months of using can erase the patterns you've formed over your entire life time. And rebuilding it can be very different.

Addiction is a sad and destructive force. Basing your life on material things is a set up for unhappiness. I never really understood addiction until I encountered opiates but I have now been there and back enough times to know.

is it possible to have addiction affects even after only one hit? cuz like, im really really wanting more...

"When you need it to feel normal, and not even as normal as you did before you had it, that sucks. This is why people want to quit."

i know some people who claim they never felt normal, or at least not happy even before trying opiates. would addiction be worth it for someone who suffers severe incurable depression?

ive never been addicted and i think its cause the only opiate i can get a lot of is hydrocodone and the side effects get so annoying that i never use it too often. when i tried heroin it like pure bliss with no side effects.

I suppose if opiate addiction is a substitute for suicide, then perhaps its better. Opiates do help severe depression, all least during the period when you are high. But what goes up must comedown, so their efficacy as long-term anti-depressant is very questionable. So, if you feel like slitting your wrists and jumping off a bridge, shoot some heroin instead. At least you'll feel better temporarily. But if someone is seriously suicidal, they will do it regardless. In this case drugs like zyprexa, in higher doses, can be effective anti-suicide medications, rendering the person essentially emotionless.

Opiates used to be commonly used for depression, but this was when you could go to corner drug-store and buy raw opium or a powerfull morphine tincture, tablets for cheap. If you can manage to stay high all the time, (this is nearly impossible, i've tried) i suppose you can stave off depression for a while. But if your depression is a result of chemical imbalance, opiates will only be a quick and short-lasting fix.
