Weed also suddenly gave me panic attacks, I never touched MDMA at the time so yeah... Unhappy moods turn into depression in some and not others, this isn't that related to chemistry or something physical but rather the way you handle it. Someone who notices a minor headache after rolling who thinks "See!?? BRAIN DAMAGE!" will be MUCH more prone to bad side-effects tbh. Every body ache, every moment of low concentration becomes due to the abuse of ecstasy, which then trigger thoughts of regret and self-critisism, which in turn create more unhappiness and symptoms. I used to be a little bit like this but now a days I AM actually back to my normal self the next day, maybe even slightly more positive because I had an awesome night.
It shocks me how everyone is discounting their own part in this. Your mood isn't 100% dependent on the amount of serotonin or dopamine in your brain, that's like thinking we are robots.
