Is it nessasary to shower everday?

Wow this is intriging! I'd never heard of oil pulling before. I might give it a go. The idea of healed enamel/cavities is interesting too; I thought once enamel was gone it was gone for good?

Back on topic, I pretty much need to shower daily, and twice a day in summer as I sweat a lot :(

I guess it's difficult to pinpoint the combination or source of progress with these things. That's the situation when you have a whole regimen. I appreciate anecdotal accounts though-- they are pretty valuable.

I do recommend a dental and medical checkup regulary though-- even to curtail or alert yourself to acute situations that you may not perceive on your own.

And steel brush? nooooo no. That's not the sort of dry skin brushing I do. It's a natural bristled brush, very soft on my sensitive skin. Do people actually skin brush with STEEL brushes? Eek!

It was a joke =D My skin is not sensitive at all, was my point. I stand under the sun for hours and get sore skin, but generally be okay. I've gotten wounds from machetes and motorcycle muffler sears, and they go away pretty quickly. A brutish female, if you may.

If I could find a good holistic dentist that doesn't push fluoride on me I'd gladly see a dentist again for cleanings. But most wont work on you if you reject their fluoride or their constant need to X-ray you *Id prefer to go without X-rays in life unless I broke a bone or something was seriously wrong-I don't like "routine" X-rays just to check stuff*

Maybe it's different in other countries but my experience with dentists in the states hasn't been too good.

That's what they say but it's obviously untrue... probably is true for most people in the western world who are drinking soda and eating shit food everyday and using normal toothpastes...

I'd say no unless you've been exerting yourself your just stripping your natural oils. A "wash might be more essential everyday. gonna look back about this teeth cleaning business think i over cleaned and lost enamel like another poster. How can people drink tons of soda, smoke etc and have perfect white teeth when I drink water etc minimal sugary drinks/diet and don't have pure white teeth?! Probably answered already i just wanted to pop in *reads thread back*

It's maddening, I know. My ex boyfriend was so nasty, he lived on coke, beer, cigarettes, candy and fast food, and he NEVER brushed his teeth. He had perfect, pink gums. We were the same age and I was being told I was going to lose all my teeth within the next few years because my gums were so constantly infected at the time..

This was of course before I learned how my illness had deprived my body of nutrients ever since childhood. I grew up malnourished so my teeth and gums never got strong, and then life just weakened them more. I hope to get my teeth and gums stronger than ever before, but they will likely never be as tough as someone who was just born that way or grew up without such a health condition. Perhaps some of it is just genetic too.

Seen this oil pulling has more beneficial effects beyond a better mouth so gonna give it ago. I have some oils in the cupboard but they need to be...? natural or something, I assume my oils are for cooking will this be OK? better than nothing I guess.

What do you guys use instead of tooth paste? a herb method was told could you elaborate?

Oh and lastly someone said about having a bath 3 times a week but having a shower more than that they would never dream off...I'm assuming a shower is harsher than a bathe? I like to BoShower..shower then bathe as too not bathe in my own shit!

I like a powerful hot shower on my back and muscles in general to help soothe them. Been advised to have a hot shower for a dodgy back by docs etc.

Also showers are so much faster and if ones quick doesn't use as much as a full tub. I must admit its nice to lay in a shower mmmm.

Its winter so any showers/baths are done the night before as im shit in the mornings.

I birdie shower everyday ha love that name! Mainly face and genitals. Think i go slightly overboard as my hands are often dry and i feel the need to lick them. skin on face gets abit dry too despite some moisturizer.

Hmm I did drink a lot of cola as a young one but don't think I was malnourished. I've always eaten very well. Envy at people who don't even brush their teeth and there white as hell. My dentist told me I lost my enamel, toothpastes etc claim to get it back but I think once its gone...

Also been told to floss..it's just a tedious task, I'll do it for a while then stop. Mouthwash will have to do for now. I might get some now and have a floss whilst watching T.V!

Okay I tried an oil pull today. My teeth feel really clean. Are you really supposed to brush for 10-15 minutes though? That seems really long, and the oil was dripping into my hand, main reason I stopped.

im a small person who doesnt sweat that often.. i can go 2 days before showering.. and thats not cuz i stink i do it because i dont like going too long w/o showering.. people will tell me if i stink too

i personaly think american are overly clean and hygenic (not saying its bad) but showering multiple times a day seems ridiculous (unless u work in a sewer)

i try to showering once every other day, showering fucks my hair up too, you need SOME grease in it so it dont get too dry and frizzy

Yeah, thats what I thought. Too much of a good thing turns into a bad thing. I don't think theres an optimal amount of showering, but I would like to have myself clean, but not too clean, it dries out the skin and whatnot.

exactly.... im also pretty lazy tbh, i feel if im not doing anything to make myself dirty, why shower? plus i got deodorant & cologne on all the time anyways so most people smell that (i know cuz i get complimented alot =D). and i think my hair looks better when its not dried out and straw looking

also, did you guys know that letting the water hit your head directly is bad for your hair? only get your scalp wet enough to apply shampoo and rinse it off, a barber told me that once (said it would help with dry scalp)

I actually did not know that. Thanks for telling me man! What does it do to your hair?

from what i remember, your scalp has little pores and glands (like the rest of our body) that secrete sweat/grease.. and when you shower (presumably with hot water) the hot water actually destroys the pores which means your hair isnt getting the natural shit it needs

That makes sense. I am going to keep that in mind the next time I shower. Its odd that I don't know how to shower properly. All I do is let the water run over me usually and use soap if theres anything available.

Wait..... brush???

What do you mean brush?

You don't "brush" with the oil. You swish it in your mouth and pull it back and forth between your teeth with the muscles in your mouth. The only brushing you do is to clean your teeth afterwards because the oil is very toxic and you don't want to swallow any. But you don't brush for 10-15 minutes, just a normal brush to make sure all the oil is out.

As far as the actual pull itself, you basically just pull long enough for the oil to mix thoroughly with your spit and become like water in your mouth. If it still feels oily then it hasn't been long enough. But there is no set time.

It's extremely important to floss everyday. Id consider it even more important than brushing. Also, most mouthwash is nasty, chemical shit. I'd stay far, far away from that stuff as it does way more damage than good.

I like to shower once a day, but the place i live in at the moment only has a fucking bath. I hate it so much. I am so used to getting out of bed like a zombie, walking in the shower and walking out feeling alive again. Now I have to get up earlier, run a fucking bath, get in it, get out and feel just as shit as i did before. I swear it's affecting my mental health too.

They have shower attachments that can hook on the tub spout. I'm sure you could find a way to jimmyrig it up on the wall. If splashing water on the walls is an issue, find a way to hang a shower curtain around the tub (dunno if it's a freestanding tub or what).

Your mental health shouldn't have to suffer 'cause of not having a shower.

Bumping 'cause I think there are some interesting points made in this thread. This thread kind of goes hand-in-hand with one over in Second Opinion, on going soap-free.

As far as showering, I don't think I mentioned here before, but I typically shower once a day, twice if it's hot out and I've done something to break a sweat. Though, that might change this summer--I've stopped using soap every day and I'm finding I don't need to wash every bit of my body every day. I still wash my pits/privates with soap every day, but I've been going about three days between washing my hair and about a week with washing my entire body.
