Is it for the Drugs or the Music?

drugs are a big part of the culture, you cant deny that. Every rave is full of shirtless sweaty people with water and huge pupils. But to decifer if its all about drugs or music is stupid. There is no denying that altering your mood and physical ability to dance isnt one of the reasons most of us go out. Its not about 'getting fucked on drugs' Its about enhancing the deepest of human emotions and blending that with heart-pumping beats with your best mates and partners. ...its like church.
 
I didnt read all the posts, lots of though.

I for one love trance, it just makes you feel good, hard ass banging loud music. its just great

But i do enjoy ecstasy, and i enjoy speed after ecstasy. but why ?

I enjoy e because it makes me feel incredible and experience euphoria, i only do it with close mates so its always a good time. And, it allows me to dance for HOURS.

Speed is good for the comedown to kick you back up so you can keep dancing
 
so i just started dropping this year, living in melbourne, russians and butterflies have improved my world immensely. i went to bdo and saw carl cox and cb and dropped and from 7:45 to 11pm i was the happiest person on earth. literally. ive never really been into drugs or techno before, but the combination of the 2 has opened my world and i love it, now im into cb's in general and i appreciate them alot more after seeing them live, but it wouldnt have been as good without ecstasy. im kinda sorry to say that for me, itsa split 50/50 as well, i know that music should come first and pills should enhance it, but i cant dance unless ive dropped so...thats it. fuck it, i cant dance anyway, but once ive dropped i dont care how badly i dance...so i need to drop to lose inhibition and have a good time, and thats my failing, but i can live with it.

^My thoughts exactly. Now i go for the music but far from hurting the scene the people who go just for the drugs (this includes many of my friends) actually help the scene. They pay the same ticket price as everyone else and if it wasn't for them there's no way the promoters could afford to bring out as many internationals or have amazing light/laser/speaker set-ups and run multiple rooms as much.

Nada_helix your post is exactly why views such as TBK's piss me off so much, you basically apologise for getting into the scene for the drugs and needing a pill to dance, these things are pefectly normal you're just having fun without hurting anyone else and for this you've got no one to fucking apologise to especially not prentious elitist wankers who think going to a couple events gives them the right to declare who should and and shouldn't be able to attend them.

Drugs are MUCH cooler than music, shit, they could play ABBA all night for I care, if I'm high enough then I'm going to be out having a good time regardless of the music. I don't even like techno much but no one else parties like ravers, sure their music sucks but the drugs are always good and the people generally amusing, so what the hell...
 
Im not saying that people that take drugs should not be there!

As for not being able to dance without taking a pill... I used to have that mentality as well. But then I went once without taking anything... I had just as much fun, the drugs just enhance the experience.

You say *dont care how I dance*, You shouldn't have to care, because no-one around you cares, the point of DANCE MUSIC. Is to Dance...;)

Maybe i was a little angry last post i can agree with you on hypocrites esp. the ones you can tell from the first time they pay you out/tell you off about your drug use that they will try drugs when the slightest bit of peer pressure gets put on them and love it. I haven't really run across the know-it-alls as much as the done-it-alls, i had one guy i knew from hs who had taken one pill and attended one rave but acted like he was biggest pill head raver ever and wouldn't shutup about raves or pills or how he would never beat his first time, months had elasped since his first rave and he hadn't bothered to attend another but regardless any time i would see him i would have to hear him talk out of his arse.
 
Well, I gotta say, I don't go out mainly for drugs or music, I go out for the pussy :D :P

I think, the routine is, go out, drink a bit, maybe have a E if the music is shit, (House music anyone :P) then walk on over and get me some tail. :D

Hence why I avoid meth these days, not good to have limperdick and spend all night dry humping and smoking weed with some chick u don't even know. :P

Anyhoo, I am sorta kidding here, but remember, a lot of ppl just go out mainly for the hunt if u catch my drift. Some ppl need the drugs to get a personality, some just take em when they know they are gonna end up goin back home and playing hand to gland combat once again. :P
 
I love the music, I'll listen to in the car at 6.30am on the way to work on wednesday, I also love the drugs hands down, for me I feel (as do most) that one goes hand in hand with the other, there's nothing better than standing in a crowd arm in arm with your girl/best mate, peaking out like nothing on earth while some kick ass dj tears up the decks, then heading home for the chill out session and rambling shit till all hours of the day with people who's company you enjoy.

It's not bullshit, I do listen to the music all the time, but believe what you want, I honestly don't care, just had to clear it up.

In my opinion it doesn't push the DJ's to really stand out. As I said, that's my problem with the rave scene - the music gets too repetitive because no one gives a shit. Well I do, and no matter how many pills I take, hearing the same half-dozen songs played in every set really annoys me.
 
without a doubt, the music at hard trance / hard style events is the best to be off your face to ... any other genre just doesn't compliment the drugs anywhere near as much as these do ... so i think it's a bit of a catch22 there.

i know that i for one could never last at a massive hardstyle event without copious amounts of drugs pumpin thru me :p
 
i love the music too.
sure i didnt get into it as much until i started taking drugs.
but i listen to tech etc on the way to work and whenever, so its not like i need drugs to enjoy it.
they do help you get into the mood at an event, cos everyone else is on the same wavelength, and nothing beats that feeling. but sometimes its good to have stuff that wont affect your memory (meth maybe...) or nothing at all, just so you can hear every killer beat that your fave DJ plays.
 
gher: what raves are you going too. There are some fanatastic acts out there and at the psy trance events I go to the music is varied and fucking awesome, I'd be suprised if I hear a song played twice.
I've got a mate who doesn't do drugs at raves and dances for just as long as me, he loves the music and the vibe as I imagine most people do at raves, just most of them also love the drugs.

You know, this is sorta off topic but on. But, see, I don't really E up or go clubbing anymore, but when I hear some nice hard trance or what not, I feel like I am peaking. I think it's some assosciation with E and the music which puts me in this awesome energetic mood. I also produce my own music and love doin it coz my drug experience helps me out with making tracks I know will get a bunch of ravers goin skitz. So does anyone else just feel pretty peaked out just from the music?
 
DIRTY_DEED yeah mate i know what you mean hey, i feel the same when i hear my style of music (hardtrance, hardstyle) i do a bit of dj'ing and nothing feels better when im doing it, some times i need to get up and dance a bit haha, but its like when you hear a big build up in a song and then just goes off i think that feeling is better than taking any kind of drugs:-)
