Is it for the Drugs or the Music?

A lot of people seem to come to this question when they get jaded with the scene ;)

Its all about the music, but some people like the altered perception =D

Special TBK pardon my french, but who the fuck are you to tell people what to do and what not to do, what to think and what not to think???

If people want to go out to raves/clubs and take drugs....so what???? If they think they're cool it's probably because they are, and you have a complex about it.

You seem to think that you know "what drugs are meant to be used for" and "how much is to be used" Your opinion and understanding of drug taking differs from other peoples. You are as bad as someone saying "It's OK to snort speed, but once you stick a needle in your arm it's going TOO FAR and NOBODY should do it, they should respect they're bodies"

Some people goto raves for the music...some people go for the girls...some people go for the light show...some people go because its a fun place to drop an E or 6..some people go to meet other people...blah blah blah

Take a breath mate, it's a big enough world for all of us. You sound like a cry-baby and a know-it-all.

I go to raves for the social interaction, i take drugs to keep me awake all night long or ill die in the ass.

I dont just take drugs at raves, i take them at other places so its not just related to raves etc.

But i mostly go out to see my mates and be a social butterfly!

I cant stand the volume of the music in clubs when im straight. And i aslo dont have the energy to dance.

When ive dropped a pill, i love the volume, and i really love dancing.

I guess its 50/50.

In my opinion, it's all about the people.

I love my music, but it's alot harder to have fun listening to music (straight or on drugs) without your friends around you, and a good atmosphere.

Hey mate why don't you go read other posts of mine... I have no problem with people jacking it (I don't personally). Go read the post *the IV Stigma* Im not against Jacking it and I believe if it's your thing go ahead. It's alot cleaner than any other method!

Also I have no-problem with people taking Drugs at Raves or parties... I have no problem with that at all. But What Iam saying there is that *Niche* group that should not be there because they don't understand one thing about the scene, but they KNOW IT ALL...

know what your preaching Fat-Man!

SpecTBK =D

Well me and my mates go for the music and the ppl, we love to seeing everyone having a good time and if the music is unreal then thats all we need, my 2 best mates dont even touch any kinds of drugs they say they dont need it becuase the club and the music give's them the buzz they need and the same goes for me i only take E at a club to give me that extra feeling thats all i take it for. if there wasn;t hard trance or hardstyle music in clubs we wouldn't go out;-)

"But What Iam saying there is that *Niche* group that should not be there because they don't understand one thing about the scene, but they KNOW IT ALL..."

Like I said. What gives you the right to say that they should not be there? They don't know anything about "the scene" It's comments like that that make me think that you are an elitest and have a problem fitting in with other people so you have to create a platform that others must conform with or...buh boooww...they're not part of "the scene maaaannn"

And I didn't say that you are against IV users I merely used that as an example of your ignorance and non-acceptance.

Fat man.....nice touch, did your 4 year old brother come up with that one?

ok ok...

Fair point I meant fat man as merely *JOHN CANDY*

Well man I've been following the music for years now and Have just seen how much it has changed from being about the music. To being all about the drugs!

Im sorry if I've stepped on toes but what I merely mean is that the scene has changed sooo greatly... :)

I think what TBK was trying getting at is that there are people there going to raves/just taking drugs places and will sit down and talk about all that they know about mdma and other drugs, but in reality all they know is how put a pill under their tongue and let it dissolve and that that pisses him off because they dont understand what they're putting into their bodies and pretend they do - and this know-it-all facade they put up is just poop...

and they're not necessarily there for anything but somewhere to drop and pretend to be cool...it might not be anyone here, but there r people like that and that's what he's complaining about (me thinks)...

I love the music but not what the scene does with it. To me, the rave scene is like rock in the late 70's in that it's becoming decadent. There's a lot of great happy hardcore out there - that I bought in this city - that I never hear except in my bedroom while mixing. In other words, raves are not about the music for me, except when someone I can't see every week is playing.

Raves are mostly about the people for me. I went without drugs for my entire first year in the scene and loved every second of it. I made a lot of good friends this way. Nowadays, either I've become jaded or the level of intelligence has gone down in the scene. There are so many dropouts and delinquents in attendance. It's true that there are a lot of people who are in it for the wrong reasons. It's sad but they have as much right to be there as the ones in it for the right reasons.

Now I may be jaded but I think the rave scene needs a good kick in the arse. This may be why bermuda triangles were made in the first place.

I'll be honest, I go for the drugs. ( and the sexy ladies of course )

For some reason after a few years on methadone music never sounded the same to me :(

I'm quite proud to admit that drugs got me into the scene.

I wouldn't enjoy the music today if I hadn't started out taking the drugs.

Dance music and drugs are inextricably linked, and nothing anyone says or does can seperate the two. The relationship is symbiotic, one grows on the popularity of the other and vice versa to create the situation that we have today.

People who go just for the music are far more irritating than those who turn up at big raves just to shaft a ten pack. More consistently they're the biggest hypocrites, looking down on the G kiddies and pill whores, their anger at these newcomers being nothing more then a manifestation of their inability to take drugs due to;

a. having so many they don't work anymore,
b. being broke paying off car accidents they had while on drugs or
c. any other reason linked to overindulgence in the past.

i.e. Inthemix Melbourne forums

Genre elitists and chinstrokers don't deserve dance music. Often thinking that it's drugs and overcommercialisation that is killing their scene, it's actually people like themselves.

OMG Hoptis is sooo going to get linked at ITM melbz for that ;)

What about people who like the music and prefer not to take drugs but don't care if other people do, or even if they don't know who's playing that night? That's a mighty small pigeonhole you're trying to cram us into there!

I feel a little bit sad for chinstrokers too, but only because they're so obsessed with one thing they forget that there are lots of other things in life that are important too. Kinda like heavy drug users. Funny that.

Those bloody chinstrokers and genre elitists! not to mention the inner sheep in them.

Whatever happened to self expression ?

I tend to find myself at home much more these days, i mean if the atmosphere is full of elitist chinstrokers and fully sick wizza warp brothers (not saying everyone is like that because they sure as eggs arent), i figured i have the substance and the music, so why bother with the drama.

I enjoy all genres, they all have a unique feel, and i appreciate the time that producers and the like put into there creativity.

I can enjoy the music by itself, infact to me it's a substance in itself. the drugs are a bonus but by all means not crucial to enjoy yourself or the music imo.

my 2c.

To those answering this q as 'for the people'

Funnily enough, I answered this question a long time ago and decided that i did it for the people.

That answer is a complete load of crap now. Superficiality rules supreme in the 'scene' and you eventually realise that the people are mainly not worth knowing. Not when they change so drastically when sober.
Give it a few years and remember this question - see how your opinion varies :)

Yeah. I'm jaded. So blow me.

It's not so MUCH people that take drugs....

It's people that go, JUST TO TAKE DRUGS. Have no interest in the music whatsoever. I love my music. I spose Iam alot more involved than some people!

I more so mean the people that I used to go to school with that Criticised me for going to raves, taking drugs etc... Now when I go to these events, who do I see there, fucked up on drugs, telling me how great it is, completely uneducated know nothing. Acting like they are BETTER than everyone else. The same people at school that were the *cool group* or *better than everyone else* that were INTO pop music. Now they come to Raves to take drugs, or for whatever reason they came!

The people that felt it was their Moral Obligation to put people down for being Fat, Skinny, Drug Users, Goths etc...

SpecTBK=D

^^ there you go....a couple of perfect representations of why we should never think we know enough to bar and exclude people from PUBLIC gatherings just because we think that they are no use to us. It is the same approach that some oldies take to ALL drug users and is as counterproductive as their dependance on alcohol to keep their own relationships as tight as they are.

Cheers.
