Is Hannah gadsby funny ?

I really don’t get the appeal, other then it’s a case of someone getting opportunities because if they didn’t the people telling her she’s not funny would be a bigot, so they just take the path of least resistance and just throw some money at a potential cancelable problem, :/

Wait...is it "she" or "they"?

But then the other part is if you say your acting crazy it turns into “oh I must be crazy cause I’m trans “ and it’s like no, your crazy cause your acting like a crazy person

I HATE people playing the "I'm in a marginalized group so I can get away with ANY type of behaviour and say ANYTHING I want and if you disagree you're just prejudice" card. If someone is ACTUALLY discriminating against you, I understand. But 90% of the time it is THE pettiest bullshit that has nothing to do with whatever minority group they are in.

In college this guy would often accuse me of "you've just never liked me because I'm a Muslim" (NOT true, btw). I was like "NO, I've never liked you because you're a dickhead. I'm not stupid enough to hate you based on your religious beliefs: I hate you because I took the time to get to know you as a person".

Agreed.

I don’t get it…I watched theys comedy with an open mind and didn’t laugh once, didn’t even smile, literally some of the worst stand up I ever seen…do you find they funny ?
That's disappointing, it hurts me, when your frown is upside down. 🥺

What can we do, to make you feel better?

* Relationship advice
* Personal integrity advice
* Help you work with your frontal cortex, issues without the MRI?
*Joe Rogan/that other guy I forgot the name of from Canada, with the YTube hits? - they got confident answers, to the disenfranchised, male audience( they like but don't want to Syphon off)
*Bear in the big blue house..

That is, (my secret shame) go to.

(Actually not ashamed) right now going to crochet the BITBBH as a hat, as I genuinely, feel it's a movement, I can get behind.

Anyway, you were saying, you found something boring, or, it didn't gel with you? Tell more?

So you think she is funny I take it ?

Nah, never said that, Las - just interested in what you d didn't enjoy about her show/clips? Your post was vague, seems like you were looking for validation from others, rather than making a point, perhaps I misinterpreted it but you weren't being specific, found that interesting.

Austin Powers Doctor Evil GIF

^ I liked your post btw!

Ah, fuck it we all need validation but I fail to see the point of why one would, shit on a lesbian, comedian on the spectrum, who has made her money putting herself out, with her grievances to the world.

I think that thats admirable, even if not my idea of the best comedy.

There is so, so much to shit-on, that deserves it - it just seems fucking lazy, to look for a pile-on, of moronic shit, to boost some retarded band-aid, self-esteem, when one can do better - why perpetuate the unfunny & be a cunt, when one can be funnier?

What I do find funny is when people run multiple accounts but don’t have the foresight to switch up their posting style , screams validation seeking behavior to me, don’t you think ?

Gadsby is the worst professional stand-up I've ever seen.

What's admirable?
Lesbianism? Making money?

Yeah, medals for both. 😁 ...think they've been actualised, already. Meh.

So, the context(which was was what I was curious of knowing - the random pile-on " Hannah gadsby is shit'", YT must have had some source...well, it did.

Paraphrase but people can dig-in to actual on-line posts.

1.) Netflix published a post stating HG & DC are 'inclusive' on their site. So, it took off from there.

This was after trans-activists rallied against DC's. special.

2) HG, stated she didn't approve of being included with DCs, special as it was " something about non-inclusive of gay/trans" . Alluded to DC, derogating the community.

3.) Barge of YT, " gadsby is not funny/shit)shit angry lesbian cunt" etc. etc...

Wow, Netflix, outdone themselves with their marketing, ploy.

...I miss the days when comedian's were vilified for wanking on front of employees.
Hopefully, Netflix will bring back Louis C.K..

...

Yeah, get your exasperation - nothing worse than having your head-wrecked but am not involved in that, mate.

Or it’s just a thread, and perhaps struck a nerve…what letter do you fly
The only nerve it touched was having a past buddy, that went through her stuff & happened to be gay...just felt for the person. Know HG has a chip-on her shoulder with men(which is the obvious) but also, obviously, through cruel experience. Can not be pleasant to hear for normal men but... maybe a chance to learn, others experience?

Just took it as that.

Comedian's, or even ' comedians', got issues.
Niche audience/otherwise.

Obviously, with a wider appeal, some are going to be more successful, financially & have a wider reach. However, niche audiences demand niche comics. Imho.
Quality over quantity, imo. No matter what you like.

Gadsby is a symbol for what's wrong with comedy in the western world. It's gotten so weird with the LGBT shit that now a lesbian comedian doesn't even need to tell jokes. There were numerous long rants that didn't lead into a punch line at all and they weren't even interesting.

I've spoken to people who liked her first special and their argument is honestly that it's okay to not have jokes throughout large sections of a stand up comedy routine.

I also don't like it when comedians do politics, though, I have to admit. That weird fat guy that smoked cigarettes during his act like he's Andrew Dice Clay annoys me and the old guy from Bill and Ted's gets pretty tedious in that department. Just shut the fuck up with the politics and dance, monkey!

Really? I honestly had no idea she had such an impact, until I saw this thread and saw all the YT talking-heads (fucking, d.Shapiro, even; that little weasel will whore himself on anything that will bring him one step closer to political might 😁) riding on the coat-tails of a comment by Dave Chapelle (put me in mind of "The Life of Brian" :)- I guess, all publicity is fortuitous, in the industry though, so rekon' nobody would have known of her, apart from her audience, if it wasn't for the social-media, pile-on -what you think?

Agree with you about the politics thing (mainly the fear of mocking it, nowadays - & yes idpol has created that uncomfortable uncertainty around legislation, that has stunted expression) but then, I think, with politics that would rule-out, Carlin and he, imo, was a wizard😉 Maybe it's more about stunted creativity, nowadays; rather than stunted expression...🤔

Yeah, so many comedian's that don't froth my vegan-latte, so, it's annoying, for sho, my man. But so fuckin many that do, thank fuck! 😉🐸

@Asclepius

I'm Australian. Gadsby is Australian. My sister-in-law is a lesbian. My mother-in-law is one of those overly proud parents of a gay child. For me, it wasn't a result of the social media uproar. My country doesn't have a lot to celebrate, so when a comedy newcomer starts winning awards and has a big Netflix special that is advertised on the front page of Aus Netflix for 3 months, it's inevitable that I find out who she is eventually.

When people make it in Hollywood (or the music industry) and they are New Zealanders, we claim that as an Australian victory too. Sam Neill is a good example. Australians refuse to believe he's not Australian.

I didn't say she had an impact. I said she serves perfectly as a symbolic representation (for me anyway) of this generation of "comedy".

I'm not a huge Carlin fan, but - then - he's not preaching to the crowd with me. I disagree with his politics. I don't think he's wise. I don't think his ideas are original.

I don't much like Chappelle either. It's all black/white jokes and other taboo topics like transgenderism and crack addicts. He doesn't have great jokes. That trans stuff he got in trouble for was kind of like Gadsby. I'm not sure if it qualifies as a joke and I've heard a hundred people say it IRL.

I'm not a huge stand up fan.

Love Louis CK.

I wish they just used the justice system with people like him, rather than cancel culture. If he broke a law, that should be investigated by the police. I don't understand why his fans have to suffer. He didn't rape anyone. If you're a grown adult and you are traumatized by seeing a penis you probably have more mental issues than the guy exposing himself.

As far as Gadsby goes, she is an unfortunate export. Sam Neill is someone to be proud of, even if he is a kiwi. Gadsby is more like Steve Irwin. Hopefully a sting ray impales her in the heart.

I don't spend any time thinking about her.

I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Just talking shit as usual.

^ ah, yes, fuck - I hate that 'in your face celebrity' - ''you are compelled to like this person, for what they contribute to putting our nation on the global map"- shite, ugh. Fuckin hell, nothing more frustrating."

National groupthink 🤮

Got ye! 😉

I'm the worst talker of shite irl btw, probably why I seem less so, in line. Got a few 'subjects' to vent to - god luv 'em! In saying that my grievances are collosal, so I still come in here to mind-clap, many a post. Like yourself.😸

Just an ad on, read about L. Shriver ( the author of, "we need to talk about Kevin" a few years ago. Remember that she had a visceral moment of combatting the 'woke' (hate that term) political, force, in Brisbane, a few years ago. Don't agree with all her views, that she has announced in media, but have so much respect for her stance & logic of expression.
It's always nuanced; the cultural climate of where you are, what you can relate to. Oz has got its own set, like everywhere. Eh Sky News in Oz, makes Sky News, in UK, look like CNN in US. 🤔
